Could be PSU also. Depending on the mainboard I’m #fairly# sure it should post even with no GPU and beep a report, but I’ve been out of the PC building loop for a while now so can’t be sure.

As above, without acess to some spare parts to swap out to narrow down the issue, you’re probably better off just replacing.

Starmer absolutely has to connect with people on a personal level. Right now he isn’t achieving that, other than with Lib Dem / Labour centre voters. That’s not a disaster at the moment, the next election is a life time away in politics.

If Starmer lays out any form of political, economic, social plans in the next six months he would be a fool

Totally. Big committal now gives the Tories plenty of time to neutralise it by claiming to do similar, even if in reality they have no real intention of doing so.

He has the ‘competence’ voters already, now he needs to work on showing empathy and understanding for the voters that Labour have lost of the last 15 years. This doesn’t need solid policy plans, he needs to show a vast chunk of the population that he ‘gets’ them. No easy task.

You can copy library over, but YT music removes the ability to cast to a speaker or Chromecast if you don’t pay the £12 a month fee 😠

I don’t have subscription, and can still stream to my Chromecast from my YT Music library (so my music I previously uploaded to Google Music) on Android.

Yep, I stopped buying Xfusion stuff for that reason. Shame, some nice forks.

Same. I’ve got forks and a shock that need loving, just sat in the garage. It’s too hard/expensive to get simple stuff like a seal kit to make it worthwhile to sort them out.

Jtech have serviced my old Xfusion shock in the past, not sure they still do.

http://www.lemonshox.com/ can apparently get Xfusion parts, but haven’t tried personally.

Pre Google Music I had a Subsonic server setup.

Not used it since but I’d be surprised if it didn’t support streaming to devices.

Just for future reference here are the pledges he made to the membership before being selected.

    10 Pledges

My promise to you is that I will maintain our radical values and work tirelessly to get Labour in to power – so that we can advance the interests of the people our party was created to serve.

Based on the moral case for socialism, here is where I stand.

    1. Economic justice

Increase income tax for the top 5% of earners, reverse the Tories’ cuts in corporation tax and clamp down on tax avoidance, particularly of large corporations. No stepping back from our core principles.

    2. Social justice

Abolish Universal Credit and end the Tories’ cruel sanctions regime. Set a national goal for wellbeing to make health as important as GDP; Invest in services that help shift to a preventative approach. Stand up for universal services and defend our NHS. Support the abolition of tuition fees and invest in lifelong learning.

    3. Climate justice

Put the Green New Deal at the heart of everything we do. There is no issue more important to our future than the climate emergency. A Clean Air Act to tackle pollution locally. Demand international action on climate rights.

    4. Promote peace and human rights

No more illegal wars. Introduce a Prevention of Military Intervention Act and put human rights at the heart of foreign policy. Review all UK arms sales and make us a force for international peace and justice.

    5. Common ownership

Public services should be in public hands, not making profits for shareholders. Support common ownership of rail, mail, energy and water; end outsourcing in our NHS, local government and justice system.

    6. Defend migrants’ rights

Full voting rights for EU nationals. Defend free movement as we leave the EU. An immigration system based on compassion and dignity. End indefinite detention and call for the closure of centres such as Yarl’s Wood.

    7. Strengthen workers’ rights and trade unions

Work shoulder to shoulder with trade unions to stand up for working people, tackle insecure work and low pay. Repeal the Trade Union Act. Oppose Tory attacks on the right to take industrial action and the weakening of workplace rights.

    8. Radical devolution of power, wealth and opportunity

Push power, wealth and opportunity away from Whitehall. A federal system to devolve powers – including through regional investment banks and control over regional industrial strategy. Abolish the House of Lords – replace it with an elected chamber of regions and nations.

    9. Equality

Pull down obstacles that limit opportunities and talent. We are the party of the Equal Pay Act, Sure Start, BAME representation and the abolition of Section 28 – we must build on that for a new decade.

    10. Effective opposition to the Tories

Forensic, effective opposition to the Tories in Parliament – linked up to our mass membership and a professional election operation. Never lose sight of the votes ‘lent’ to the Tories in 2019. Unite our party, promote pluralism and improve our culture. Robust action to eradicate the scourge of antisemitism. Maintain our collective links with the unions.

Bored of rattly Vaults I went to Burgetc Penthouse Mk4s. Decent, but a bit smaller platform than Valuts. Similar price as well.

Saw Kona Wah Wah 2 Composites for sale and took a punt.

Wider still than the Vaults, with great grip and half the price of the others.

There’s been a few drag lift options like this

    https://www.wideopenmountainbike.com/2014/05/protow-mtb-bike-uplift

Really you want to go as directly up the hill as possible, and avoid the risk of using the same track as the vans. This would mean building a new smooth path up, as well as buying and installing the equipment. Can’t see it being cheap, and as Brick said, would need to be idiot proof.

Most of the beer is fruity and flavoured which is not to my taste – I like good quality beer but not when it tastes of cherry or vanilla essence so I tried to cancel.

Same here, I do like fruity beers, but seems like maybe a few too many.

Phoned about three times over the last 2 weeks and have either been cut off, told to phone back later or put on hold for ever

I phoned to cancel last week. Was on hold for 20 mins which was annoying but not the end of the world. Once I got through the guy was helpful and polite and cancelled subscription in about 2 mins.

edit: just saw your edit lol

    Same boat as you.

I have the high top freeriders, the Adidas Trailcross high tops which were on sale last year and recently got Impact High tops.

The Trailcross are very light, slimmer fitting and feel, dry really fast. Grip maybe a touch less than the Freeriders but riding them last night maybe that’s just in my head.

The Impact Highs are the opposite. Very chunky and solid. Grip seems same as Freeriders. The sole is very thick, which means you can’t feel the pedal so much. Feel very stiff still after a few rides and walks. Probably exaggerated by the fact my Freeriders are heavily worn.

In short, neither of these options are a direct replacement for the Freeriders, they are both quite different. I suspect the Impacts will soften with age and wear, but the thicker sole is very noticeable. If you get on with the slimmer fit of the Trailcross then I’d go with those, if you want more of a gravity shoe, the impact.

    😊

Because I believe that society should be a meritocracy, where your background should not hold you back in getting on. Reasonable taxation for the high earners who have already succeeded which is then fed back into education, support for lower incomes , infrastructure to improve the country overall etc. This then allows hard working/talented people to rise up and take the place of lazy/less talented people who may have just got a lucky head start.

Because the NHS, fire service , police etc are all socialist services which we take for granted that it’s normal we all pay in even if we don’t directly gain ourselves, we gain through the societal benefits it brings. I see little reason why this can’t be expanded to other key utilities.

Because as Covid has shown, if we all pull together and support each other, (mutual aid groups, thank you key workers initives etc ) it creates a nicer tighter knit community, and just a nicer world to be in when opposed to the ‘trample on anyone who gets in your way to the top’ mentality.

But mainly just because I like the colour red.

The question as to why some people are left, right, libertarian or authoritarian I find fascinating and would love if anyone can recommend any good books/links on the subject.

I think for me the reason many people vote Conservative is this:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-world_hypothesis

The just-world fallacy or just-world hypothesis is the cognitive bias (or assumption) that a person’s actions are inherently inclined to bring morally fair and fitting consequences to that person, to the end of all noble actions being eventually rewarded and all evil actions eventually punished

It would be interesting to hear people on here who vote Conservative whether or not they agree/disagree with that hypothesis.

you are wrong; his time IS over – as johnson’s will be by year end.

I’d be surprised. Johnson is now where May was. The hole he’s dug in the last few months coupled with the fact the situation isn’t going to improve in the short term, and Brexit new year means I find it hard to see anyone who would want to jump into his shoes until everything that can be blamed on him, has.

Worldometer has us on >4000 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Had to go back to 8th May for last time that happened.

Competency is everything for Labour. Labours recent policies of nationalising everything were not hated (in the main) because they were socialism but because they appeared to be reckless spending of money.

    100% this.

    Was happy to see:

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/may/17/labour-to-plan-green-economic-rescue-from-coronavirus-crisis

Which is similar to what was proposed in the 2019 manifesto, but it’s now nicely framed in a way it applies to real people and real solutions.

For the non Parliment watcher like me Starmer seems like a complete non entity, never on the news and never saying much when he does manage to get on TV

Interesting. It’s always insightful to hear what people who are not hugely glued to politics think about events and people.

You could replace Starmer in your sentence with Corbyn at the time, it was a common criticism.

For those who don’t watch parliament etc. Where would you most be likely to see news/updates from the opposition leader?

It’s been about all Brexit since Cameron really

His real test will come in balancing winning back the northern Brexit labour vote, trying to tempt some Scottish vote back, and getting some swing from moderate Tories. Not so easy.

I was pleased to see this:

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/keir-starmer-rejects-brexit-extension-as-talks-get-off-to-a-slow-start-fmj5nqndd

Starmer was a clear remainer, but happy to see he’s not falling into the trap of calling for extension/rejoin whatever which the Tories can then use as a stick to bash him/Labour.

Keep the Brexit mess owned by the Tories. Will this do damage to the country? I think so yes. But there is no alternative now:

Didn’t matter who lead them, or what the policy was, their voters were split between the two camps

Exactly, those ex-Labour voters won’t be won back with more “stop Brexit” talk. But they can be won back after the Tories make a mess of something that is inevitably going to be a destructive mess.

Anyone else suffering a bit of anxiety this week?

Yeah the same. Lots of people seeming to act as if the end of lockdown has come, yet I don’t feel the same.

    Can anyone answer this:

Daily cases are still ~4000 a day, but that’s obviously not the real number as that’s only tested people.

What I’m struggling with is what was the initial ‘seed’ figure of infected people in the first week or so?

If we assume the only cases we have are those tested, then that’s still 28,000 new cases a week.

Surely our starting point must of been only a few hundred cases? Can social distancing really have a big enough impact to stop this just exploding again in a few weeks?

    Anyone?

IMO what they actually want to do is have a nice UK map back at ukgov/PHE/NHS mission-control that displays where people are reporting symptoms and getting positive test results

The positive test results can be handled at the test centre surely? As soon as test returns positive, enter it into the system. No need for an app and it’s verified and instant?

What are ‘they’ looking to steal/do ?

As another quick little example, relevant to this forum.

This in isolation has little utility:

However, it can then be used to create this:

What are ‘they’ looking to steal/do ?

Don’t think about it from an individual point of view, its about all the data and big picture that data can create. This was and has been abused in the past.

With regard to the UK app and location data:

But NHSX – the part of the health service that developed the app – said the app will be voluntary, and the only personal data stored by the app at the start would be the first part of the user’s postcode.

Additional location data will only be recorded if users agree to a further opt-in request, NHSX added.

Apple and Google have said apps that adopt their decentralised model would not be allowed to gather location data.

    I think:

the only personal data stored by the app at the start

Is a key line in that.

Believe me no one trusts the gov less than me but other than getting bored what would they get?

From most peoples individual point of view, not much. It’s all about the big picture as we saw with CA. The data was analysed for patterns and then used to manipulate and exploit events/people.

    Good article from Mozilla here:
    https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2020/04/29/contact-tracing-governments-and-data/

    kiksy

You don’t take part in the app. You don’t get a message saying you’ve been in contact with someone who tested positive. You pass it to a family member who dies alone and scared in ICU. Never mind, you made sure you stuck it to The Man.

A totally understandable stance, but for me is directed the wrong way. The government should be asked why, when given the easy path of vendor supported decent privacy did they take the harder, reduced privacy option when they know it will decrease uptake?

    kiksy
    Free Member

Not sure I trust Apple and google either though! Oh dear!

This matters less with the decentralised model (unless you think they are lying about it being decentralised or that it leaks more info than stated)

    Jamze described it nicely above:

Imagine everyone was carrying around a bag of raffle tickets. Every time you meet someone (for a defined time/distance) you both secretly swap a ticket and keep the stub.

When somebody tests positive, that person’s raffle ticket numbers are broadcast out and anybody with a match is flagged as a contact. You have no idea who the person was who tested positive, or who else has been contacted.

Your raffle ticket number randomly regenerates every x amount of hours.

A more indepth doc explaining it is here:
    https://github.com/DP-3T/documents/blob/master/DP3T-Slideshow.pdf

The centralised model only makes sense if the health authority really do want more info (location, time, time in contact, phone number…. whatever else) which might be valid depending on your point of view.

This is backed up From the BBC article

But NHSX believes a centralised system will give it more insight into Covid-19’s spread, and therefore how to evolve the app accordingly.

“One of the advantages is that it’s easier to audit the system and adapt it more quickly as scientific evidence accumulates,” Prof Christophe Fraser, one of the epidemiologists advising NHSX, told the BBC.

DP-3T is open source, so would be the preferable solution.

Plenty of other people concerned about the centalised model and its use of private companies to handle the data:

I don’t understand why UK Gov haven’t gone for the decentralised (Apple Google) approach.

    100%.

Just to be clear, Google/Apple arent working on an app as such, its just a framework of APIs that allow app developers to get easy interoperability and functionality. This framework works on a decentralized approach, similar to this https://github.com/DP-3T/documents .

The Google/Apple/Dp-3T solution is pretty smart, and does give good privacy with no real identifiable info stored or sent to the health authority.

Which is why the UK decision to not use it is so fishy. They not only now have to convince people that their data is safe with private companies they also have to work around any issues with hardware/software that the Goog/Appl solution solves from the outset.

    Germany gave up: https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavirus-europe-tech/germany-flips-to-apple-google-approach-on-smartphone-contact-tracing-idUKKCN22807X

And Australia coudln’t get it to work on iPhones without the app being open:
    https://twitter.com/MikeHaydon/status/1254646784825061377

The Govt had a privacy wise decent solution supported by the vendors ready to go, and yet they chose the harder path of doing their own. You really need to ask yourselves why that is.

Laboour has to appreciate that a majority of it’s support is from Brexit-ers.

30% is the estimate of Labour Brexit voters, not the majority.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48039984

However these Brexit voters are in the key marginals.

Corbyn couldn’t grasp that, but BoJo certainly did.

Corbyn was more pro Brexit until people (such as Starmer, Watson etc) pushed him towards a more remain stance. I’d say Corbyn did understand that, but buckled under the pressure eventually. My fear is that it’s those people who pushed will now see Starmer as an opportunity to reopen the debate

    kiksy

Why? Leaving the EU is unutterably stupid.

    Totally agree.

However, a large chunk of key marginal seats do not. They are the ones that matter.

Falling into the most basic trap of “Starmer wants to reverse Brexit” will lead to instant failure.

I am motivated by KS to actually join labour BUT my local lab MP is probably the most useless and ineffective person I have met. I don’t want to support her but I want to help labour and the UK population.

    Should I join???

If you join, come the next election you’ll be in a position to vote on which candidate your local Labour party puts forward to stand.

Aside from that, you’ll be supporting the whole party with you membership.
