We’re home schooling our 11 year old daughter for the time being (not Covid related).

I just bought a Pi 4 and case. I’d always wanted to build one together with her, and show her some fundamentals of computing and programming. There looks to be lots of free resource on their site, and others.

Looking forward to messing about with it.

Ah that’s a shame @sharkattack it seemed to get better reviews online than the Ronseal

Any recommendations for hard wearing floor paints from anyone else?

    @j4mesj4mes It’s horrible isn’t it!

First I used Bostik Concrete Sealer 5L, really easy, dilute in a bucket of water, then roller it on (I dare say someone would say PVA would do, but whatever). Could have left it at that, it sealed it excellently.

Once set and dry. I Painted with Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Paint, don’t use that! It is not “diamond hard”. Mine chipped a few times already. But it was the only one available as eveything had sold out due to Covid DIY enthusiasts. Now it’s all done it will be easy for me to paint over it with something else. I’ll probably try the Leyland Heavy Duty Floor Paint

If yours is like mine, single garage with gable roof, I’ve also boarded it out with loft boards. Going a meter out each side from the edge, leaving a clear gap all the way through the middle to get up with a ladder to fetch stuff. Excellent bit of space for boxes of stuff, Christmas decs, body boards etc.

Those that have painted their walls white – did it make a decent improvement to brightness in the garage or not?

Yes, much much better. Pain in the ass to paint though!

Mine is a single detached garage (3x6m), it’s small but I love it!

We just bought the place this summer, it’s our 3rd house. I’ve always wanted a garage/outside space. The house previous to this, I used the old brick coal shed at the rear of the house to store my 4 bikes, plus parts/tools/kit, kids bikes, lawn mower etc. It was insane how much I managed to store in there. But you needed to empty the whole thing to get something out.

The garage now, it’s a new build place. So it was a blank canvase, a very bloody dusty one at that! The floor was horrible, new (6 months) concrete that never stopped dusting. Everything in there was dusty and gritty.

I’ve had a upvc personel door added in the side to access from within the garden to avoid having to open the up and over door everytime I’m in and out of there. Added power and lighting (this was a job and a half! but so worth it!). Painted all the brick walls white and then sealed and painted the floor. Love it.

All the bikes now hung vertically in line, using those PlanetX bike hangers. Makes a massive difference not tripping over them, and keeps them in better condition too. Fixed a flat screen TV to wall for indoor training. After waiting on their list for 11 weeks, I’ve got my Concept 2 rower which I’d wanted for a long time. I can’t use the rower mind you, I’ve herniated a disc in my back somehow somewhen! Damn it. But it will get used when I’m healed.

Next on the list is to build some shelves/workbench similar to yours @sharkattack. I’ll get some pics later

I did the breathing one once. Came across the video whilst YouTubing (YouTube is the best thing).

Was amazed I could hold my breath that long. Felt good afterwards too. Should really look into it more.

I’m 40, so have the benefit of growing up in the old world, where we had REAL boredum, AKA solitude. But also being one of the first generations to embrace technology as it is now, I even chose a career in IT some 21 years ago, as it was that fascinating back then.

I struggle with this stuff, and I’m aware of what’s wrong. This isn’t what we’re evolved for.

I worry a lot about my children’s generation.

Well I’m glad I’m not alone!!

This has bothered me a lot in recent years. It’s definitely smart phone/social media addiction for me. I’ve tried to quit, can’t do it. TBH I really hate it, the feeling of having to keep checking, as there’s always new messsaages/replaies/updates/pictures etc. I feel like I’m a slave to this stuff, it’s all utter effing nonsense too.

I’m guilty of hardly ever reading books. So I’ve bought a book I think I’ll like, and will try very hard to ignore phone and get into the book. It really is very hard.

This is probably why I really love bike time, and hiking with the dog! Esacpe the little black screen for a period.

I thought it was annonymous / you don’t get told where the contact took place?!

I think the fact the phone can see other Bluetooth devices in range isn’t the issue, as the app is mesuring how far away they are from signal stregnth, not if they exist at all. So surely, if there’s a floor/wall in the way it will work in your favour (the app will think they a FURTHER away as signal strength will be lower)??

The benefit of eBay over FB and Gumtree, might be a wider audience. I’ve had some bloke drive 4+ hrs (each way) across the county to collect a bike he bought from me on eBay before.

I like the old way more

    Buyer turns up when agreed…

    “well here’s the bike”

“Oh very nice, yes I like it, you have really looked after it, here’s the cash”

“Thank you very much. Yes, I’ll be sad to see it go, anyway you enjoy it, tada”

But I guess there’s more opportunity to make money forcing Paypal on us.

On my ad, “cash on pickup” is a payment method I was allowed to set. I’ve stipulated in the ad cash. See what happens then I guess.

@monkeyboyjc – this is news to me!

I have a bike selling in current auction. Can I just refuse paypal, and insist on cash? That’s what I was planning to do. I have stated that in my ad.

I see they offer a “Signature on collection” method of protection for item over £450.

I’d still insist on cash on collection personally.

It’s so wide open to fraud! Amazing really

Never use Paypal with collection. It’s that simple. Cash on collection.

Ebay force you to allow Paypal on the ad, but I just state in the description that I won’t accept Paypal. It’s cash on collection only.

The issue is (and if you goolge it, you will see), they can take the item away, then later on ask Paypal for a refund by claiming the item is faulty or other such issue.

It’s mandatory now though isn’t it? so you need not worry about the effectiveness either way.

I agree though, probably ineffective, but then I keep think marginal gains, also in the same bracket to the app. Add all the little things together….

Wilko, the black “stepahead” ones seem to fit me really well. They’re £3 each

Agree with that, testing is absolutley crucial to using the app. They need to sort their sht out!

We’ll do our bit, install the app, GOV need to sort their end and get testing sorted asap.

Should I give everyone £100? It would have been for the greater good, but I’d have been bankrupt by the time I left the fruit and veg isle.

But this isn’t costing you anything, OK maybe a few minutes of your time. It’s just helping the situation. But, thankfully we’re in the UK, it is optional, and entirely up to you…

Odd that people are so hesitant/worried about it, when they already giveaway their digital info all over tha place already! Main point is, it’s for the greater good. It’s not going to be perfect, but if it helps, a bit, it’s worth it surely.

Downloaded it too, again if it helps a tiny bit I’m in.

Interesting discussion at work, the top bosses not in favour of it at all (understatement) – as people might need to isolate if they’re been exposed, and that’s inconvient to the greedy so-and-sos!! The same bosses do not want anyone who CAN work from home, to do so! This thing really shines a light on people

Just bought a 2014 Mundane Mondeo Estate for my 60 mile round trip commute. Titianium X. Bloody cracking car. Massive! comfy as anything and quick. For MTBing, and family duties it’s spot on. I got p*ss ripped in the office “old man car” blah blah. But Don’t care at all, it does ticks all the boxes.

I love the fairly dark ones, preferably British. There’s not lots of it really.

    Paddy Considine, Stephen Graham.

Also Daniel Day Lewis, DiCaprio and Brad Pitt

The door has an annoying track configuration, so curtain won’t work. No to headphones! Plus I like to sing whilst I’m “working out”. I’ll look at the polystyrene approach.

just like engine braking and going down the gears when slowing down…just no need these days.

Whaaat?!?! Since when do you not need to use engine braking!? That’s got nothing to do with how modern a car is.

This is a point of contention in our house. I have always left car in gear, in addition to parking brake. It’s the logical thing to do, plus when I had crap cars years ago, the handbrakes really weren’t reliable!

Mrs always tells me off. She starts the car without depressing the clutch (I know, I know!).

    Both

Button in normally, no idea why.

When I’m feeling lackadaisical, let the clicks rip! So wreckless
