We’ve handed out beloved gorgeous dog over to The Dogs Trust.

I’m in bits guys. How’s this dog affecting me so much.

Monitored son and dog over the next couple days. Son shows absolutely no signs of having learnt from the whole horrific saga. In fact he’s dancing around in his face etc, you know just annoying him. We explained and threatened to no avail. It’s not that we’re not disciplining him.

Talked it over a lot with wife. We both agree, we can’t rule out the dog snapping at him again. The dog may have learned now, bite as it works with the annoying little one.

I had a lot of discussion with close friends and family. And in the end that didn’t help. The decision was still mine/ours to be made.

Anyway, thanks for listening, and chatting. I’m just off the cry again.

@flicker no not fully, but enough for us to get the gist of it.. apparently there was growling beforehand he said. AND he was very apologetic instantly rather than being concerned about his face.

But we’re still mindful he’s only a boy. And he’s our primary concern

@Futureboy77 yes, it’s not the dog that I don’t trust!

Do you have strong discipline of your son and dog in the house (and that does not mean physical control)

Yes. The dog is well behaved, and knows his place, he’s submissive and obidient, but always friendly with a wagging tail. His tail causes carnage, clearing the coffee table as he walks past happily wagging! My son… we’re strict with our kids, in the normal sense. But they have much firmer rules than my Sister’s kids. I think we’re on the firmer end of the scale as opposed to lax. But he is 6 year old boy, it’s very hard to get him to do what you want, it happens eventually, but f** me!!

I had a terrible night sleep. Still split on what to do. My wife believes we can keep him and is going to buy stair gates to create zones to ensure separation. I had a call back from The Dogs Trust, they recommended the same thing, stair gates and monitoring/noting the dog’s behvaiour (any signs of growling etc). But said they’d be happy to take him from us.

We did discuss it as a family, seemed fair rather than just taking him. I’m the only one who is considering getting rid. And I’m the one closest to the dog.

But, The dog and the boy seem totally unchanged by it, in that neither of them are different with each other. This morning the boy was sat on the floor next to me. Dog trotts over to him, head on his lap and rolls upside down for belly rubs.

I do think they’re both fine with each other, and it was a one off. But there’s a large part of me that questions it all.

TBH I would probably slide into a dark place if I lost the dog, sh1tty timing with everything going on! I’m going to think on it.

    A & B 50/50

But B where I live is mostly C type terrain, so I have a new C bike on order, which is due in time for spring and hopefully slightly less squishy ground. SO I’ll likely end up mostly C this year

@inbred456 oh definitely a family dog. Yes I’m very close to him, but Buddy is without doubt a family dog. We all do walks together, and are all often sat together in the evet. The long walks are just me and him because the rest of the family don’t have the legs for the long gallops! I find a long solo walk very therapeutic, especially in current times.

Re. Police/social services visit. Yes I would expect some follow up. Would be more shocking if nothing at all happened.

I’m making arrangements to speak with a dog behaviourist. Just wanted to see what they thought of him/the situation/family situation.

But I am far from settled in my mind

Wife is going to talk to son when alone later. Just chatting to wife over a cuppa now, she said he was instantly apologising profusely when it happened. I didn’t know this until now. So he was obviously doing something bad to the dog, and it just whipped around and clocked him.

I’ll spend a couple of days thinking about it, won’t make any decisions yet..I’ll see if I think son can be trusted to not be such a knobber. If he’s still no heeding, dog will go for his own sake.

Agree with the sofa’s. I hate that anyway.

We are pretty strict about it all anyway, don’t leave kids alone (clearly sometimes it happens).

    Boy home, patched up.

Asking all the way home from hospital where is Buddy, can’t wait to see him.

We left dog in other room until things settled. Son and dog had a cuddle. Son not bothered at all!

I instantly broke down in tears ffs

I’ve spoken to The Dogs Trust, to sound them out. They think rehoming should be a possibility. Will follow up.

I have divulged fully! I would never re-home him if I thought he would be a danger to an adult. I’m sure it’s not totally new situation to them, family pet bites family child. I’d imagine they would look for a home without kids. He’s adorable, and loves walking miles.

    So gutted

We have 11 year old daughter. Her response was just get rid of son. She wasn’t joking

My thoughts are exactly the same as @dannybgoode

Life happens, you cannot ensure they’re never left alone again. And if this happened a second time it would be our fault.

As for the boy, they’re still checking him over. Seems the dog got his whole head in one bite. Knocking out a couple of son’s teeth and a fractured bone in gum, as well as the teeth cuts to face. They’re still assessing..

The dog is large, so entirely possible

Thanks guys. I’m just in a bit of a spin.

My initial response, was that it’s the only responsible thing to do. Re-home.

I’m full of emotions. I don’t know what to do.

Ordered Apex Hydro in Mint! Exciting

    @boblo
yeah I do like the CAADX, but there’s a few things about it I’d wanted to change, some not possible. Mine came with Spyres, so always planned to upgrage to hydro brakes at some point. The BB annoys me (BB30), now all my bikes will be threaded. And I want to be able to run fatter rubber, the CAADX can just squeeze a 38mm if condtions are dry.

Also, it’s lockdown, and I just wanted a new toy.

I didn’t buy yet, still pondering.

I ride 58cm in CAADX (the bike it will replace) and 58cm Spesh Tarmac. So still not sure.

    Will ponder some more! Haha

I’m hovering over buy also. I’m 6’3″ and charts say XL, but the reach looks long.

Mint or Chilli red though! Argh

I LOVE slow TV! It’s the antedote.

Winter Walks was most lovely. Hooks was fantastic.

I do like repair shop, but the emtional bit where they zoom in to see everyone crying, I could do with less of that.

I bought the Decathlon cheapo ones before Christmas. They’re good.

Not really used them yet, did some pistol squats, which hurt a lot! They allow you to really get deep on those

I do think along the same lines though, as twonks. Often when in a world of my own, you wonder some random question. I guess it’s made us lazy, just Google it (or Ask Jeeves yesterday when Google died haha). But at same time, far more knowledgeable having free access to vast information… mostly about pointless shit though

Probably just chat about with mates who were of similar mindset. Or Library if really interested.

Thankfully Sir Tim Berners-Lee gifted us with the world wide web, to research said queries and access information instantaneously.

That’s it! It forces you to focus on this one thing. Survival kicks in. That’s what makes us happy.

Our lives are full of all this sht we don’t need. We’re not meant to live like this! We’re happiest when we’re doing things, hiking hills, swimming whatever. But that’s no secret

I tried surfing too. I do prefer bodyboard

I bodyboarded before I got into cycling (and then MTB).

Bodyboarding will always have the bigger buzz, just pure fun!

But as my nearest spot is Bournemouth. It’s generally always rubbish, and crowded. That lead me to look for other things to do when it wasn’t working, so I got a road bike – 9 years and a LOT of time and LOT money spent!! Cycling is part of who I am now.

Got in for a quick sesh a couple weeks back, so good.

We always have a “not until December” rule. The argument being its not special if there too soon, and you’d get bored of it. But the wife has been sneaking bits up here and there “oh I need you to help me hang this garland up as it’s too high for me” etc (I swear we never used to have a garland!).

Anyway, I was standing my ground over it, but then realised I was being a grumpy bore! And if it makes wife and kids happy….then let it be.

The decathlon one does look cracking value. Couple of poor reviews as the straps aren’t adjustable.

Glad I searched of this. I’ve just gone and ordered “Treat Your Own Back” by Robin McKenzie”. Thanks for recommendation.

I did mine back around 9-10 weeks ago. I’ve had MRI couple weeks ago, which was actually for my hip as that’s been painful for ever! but I asked them to check my back too as I had a hunch I’d herniated a disc.

Results for MRI came back. I have laberal tear and cam lesion (iow. hip impingement), I’ve currenlty decided against surgical treatment for that, will see if I can improve things with physio and strengh work.

But also “at L5S1 level degenerative disc bulge and central disc protrusion contacts the dural sleeves of both traversing S1 roots, but with no overt impingement”.

Pain was initially very high, that turned into lower back stiffness and pain over the whole area, which has eased off a bit over the weeks. But still get dull ache and stabbing pain if I move the wrong way.

I had in my mind I had it that it would eventually resolve.

The thing is, last night I had initial physio appointment to start addressing it. He was of the opinion that we can build the strength around the area, as expected, but not to expect it to get better than it is now! He said it’s just a case on managing it, and strengthening to stop it worsening.

Also, what about all the steam? If you’re not externally extracting, all that water is going into the building – it’s probably a lot. Not good

Using Draytek Vigor3910 here. I just use the Syslog application on another machine, and point the router to that – there’s a syslog section

I’ve just bought my boy (5yo) a set for Christmas. https://www.scalextric.com/uk-en/micro-scalextric-law-enforcer-set.html

The new stuff (Micro) is supposed to be improved for kids. New track design from last year. Cars less likely to leave the track (boring?).

A bit dubious about it. Some good reviews from Scalectrix nerds on their forum though.

Used to love mine years ago, can still remember the smell now

    Two reasons:

    1. Two wrongs don’t make a right – as we were taught at primary school age.
    2. He’s a belllend

Boris himself said, this isn’t as strict as the last one. I think that in itself isn’t helpful…

Also, the details around WFH this time are different. They’ve included an extra word.
“You must work from home if you can effectively do so.” My boss, and I’m sure may others interpret “effectively” as a means to force people into the office. Here, we are expected to all be in, and if we have a problem with that we need to speak with MD, people seem fearful to do that.
SO….people might think, well, if it’s safe enough for me to be in the office with 50 other dirty humans, then it’s safe enough for me to meet the parents for a walk so they can see the grandkids…
