Nealglover – are the figures you state inclusive of labour or just parts?

    Nice and cheap then! 🙁

So, no definitive answer on whether £220 is reasonable for a divertor valve and whether it should have solved the problem?

Does anyone know whether the heat exchanger is the likely cause of the problem?

    Advice on next steps appreciated.

I wonder if “I made the heating work” means “I broke the heating, but I fixed it again”?

It was his last job of the day so that may be the case = you have heating again for the weekend…then whispers…but still no hot water.

Just spoke to another friend who said it will have a heat exchanger?

I paid £50 for the service plus £30 for the urgent repair (which has still not been resolved – small drips).

totalshell – thank you very much for this, no heat exchanger, hmm I had a bad feeling about this all along. May I ask, are you a plumber?

The plumber did spend a few hours there (3?) carrying out the job but seemed to think he had done a favour by making the heating work, though there was never a problem with this! The hot water wasnt working, the heating was. I dont want to pay for something that the plumber misdiagnosed!

    Thanks honeybadgerx.

Do you think I should pay them based on what you have heard or do you think I have good reason to withold the money? Where do I stand on this?

If its the heat exchanger then thats fine and am happy to pay for it. I’m just not convinced the divertor valve needed replacing. They’re not being very helpful when I ask for reasoning, only stating ‘when you pay for this work we’ll carry out the next bit’. I would like a detailed explanation for the engineer visited but this company doesnt work like that it seems. They also dont want to quote for the works to the heat exchanger, anyone know what a reasonable cost is?

    AndyP – LOL

Cougar – Its a Potterton Performa 28i, probably due for replacement soon but will keep running it for the forseeable. There had been a leak for a while which was getting progressively worse but about a week before the plumber came the hot water became cooler, sometimes running cold and very rarely getting hot. I was told the divertor valve had gone wrong causing no hot water. £220 was the figure quoted, however I had other things on my mind last week (partner in hospital) therefore I OK’d it to get it done. However, £220 along the line still no hot water. I’m thinking this wasnt a problem at all, therefore am not willing to pay for it yet, despite being chased. I also still have a drip which was part of the first bill (£89) so not going to part with my money in a hurry.

    Thanks for your help.

My sister also has a hardly used one, with all controllers, leads, games etc for sale.

    Email on kevhowmanATgmailDOTcom if interested.

OK, so is a gas certificate the only legal requirement?

OK, some very useful input here.

Thanks for the heads up about the tax return, not sure how this works as everything, pay etc, goes through my work. Would I get taxed on the rental income even though it mirroring the mortgage costs?

Still not sure half of the furnishings are worth keeping and certainly dont want to be replacing, therefore flowepower’s suggestion seems sensible.

Will a new battery definitely solve the cutting out issues?

Yes, just the LCD unit! Didnt get time the other night so will do it over the weekend. My battery is playing up so may look at doing this as well!

I’m in a similar position. Currently got an iphone 3gs which is becoming a bit tempremental. Like the iphone but the 5 offers very little different for me as it runs the same OS. Seen the HTC One S on buymobilephones.net on 3 for £19/month which looks a good deal!

There was a good deal on a charge from wiggle posted on here yesterday IIRC

I do agree that the 3, to me, feels better in the hand than the latter models. I have a 3GS and it keeps cutting out at around 20% battery, very annoying. The LCD unit has a problem and I’ve bought a replacement and plan to replace it myself (didnt get time last night!). I plan to keep it on my sim only deal for as long as I can then upgrade to iphone 5 (or android equivalent – dependant on prices).

zilog6128 – Glad it went OK. I got my lcd in the post yesterday so may well attempt it tonight! It took 10 minutes on the youtube video, I reckon it will take me at least half hour to ensure i get it all right!

OK, a quick update, I’ve bought an enclosure and connected the hard disk to my laptop. The laptop installed the driver software and it now shows two new drives one is an F drive the other is G Recover drive. The F drive fails to open, the G drive opens and it looks like the files are on there but in a format not recognised by my computer. The files come up as an example FACTO001.GHS and FACTORY.GHO. How do I open and recover the files?

Anyone got a name of a seller (ideally with link) to purchase required part?

    kevster

The glass is fine, however a row of LCD appear to now not work which means a white line accross the screen (horzintally if held in normal position).

Price is a consideration, most seem only a few quid less than an iphone which is nether here nor there. Samsung Galaxy S3 is a about £6/7 cheaper which adds up over two years!

The One S seems like a cracker of a phone and you can get it on 3 for £19/month 24 month contract.

Oh, I dont really sync much with the iphone to be honest. I use itunes for my music and synch that across but dont use icloud.

Cheers for the response, I guess the build quality on HTC and Samsung is still good enough that it will come out of a two year contract still being in fairly good nick and working order?

Im a QS and that is max 2 days work for 1 person. Based on mates rates the £250 labour + materials isnt a million miles off. Double it for someone who you dont know e.g. £250 per day. The extract fan could be more problematic than it sounds as there will have to me making good internally and externally and also chasing for the fan, cut off switches etc.

They look like they would do the job, I see that E13 do a narrow version but theyre £14!

Installed it on my 3gs. General running speed seems marginally quicker although it does now seem to cut out randomly when battery is nearly 20%.
