So as someone who has actually worked in industry and is now a teacher in a school.

Don’t do as a flash in the pan idea, get out to schools and see the real teaching world. If it still appeals then go for it. You may find part way through the training you don’t like it.

It is not easy but it can be rewarding. There is a lot of bullshit but point me at a job without its paperwork.

first road bike was a speccie allez and the one i just bought was an Allez elite. I like ’em. THe Tiagra is still going strong and showing no real signs of wear. Two new cables and a tighten of teh rear wheel bearings and its still running. Hoping the elite, which is still to touch tarmac is as good.

It’s the other way round they just want the vessel and the people, that is what they are ransoming, if they wanted the cargo then they’d all be driving around in tanks stuffing their faces with food aid.

I don’t lend my bike to others, bad enough if i wreck it but i don’t want others to feel like i would (assumption is they would feel the same) if i broke, wrecked, scratched, got dirty, someones elses bike (such a small word).

I love the car ones. THey fall apart so quickly. Lots of people swinging off on tangents then suddenly it’s all name calling. Brilliant, this is a classic even by STW standards.
Cold light of day v’s emotions v’s “governmental control” v’s professional drivers v’s “twunts”.

    Oh how i laugh.

Understand the emotion of the situation (possibly pushing for that light to stay green) but emotional driving can be as dangerous as the rest. Hope your daughter is OK but don’t think they’ll accept ot as mitigating circumstances.

And unbelievably, the daft GMTV presenter again brought up the question of the adult videos, asking how Jacqui Smith was coping as a wife – as if the incident was divorce material ffs. The poor cow had to explain that they were dealing with it and say “we’re a strong family”

Would have been much better if she’d said ” i was watching it to, bent over the sofa”

    i’ll get my coat

Great fork (almost as good as my ronins) but the dlo cartridge imploded on mine, giving a horrible clunk, still worked well though. Now sorted and smooth as…..well….a really smooth thing.

Glittering skellies looked a bit daunting last time i looked at it (but that was december a few years ago and i was contemplating trying to get a kid with cerebal palsy over it).

I’m interested in how you get on. Is it possible to link into what is a great bit of singletrack at capel mounth? If so very interested in how you get on.

26.9, looks like another haircut and a close shave. God knows what it was when i was 2 stone heavier and sprint training/playing rugby.

Actually it was 32 and obese, nice.

Oh yeah and the other thing…. isn’t it interesting how defensive the non helmet people are of their view. They seem to get quite aggresive quite quickly about it. So whats that about ?

    Who are the non-helmet people?

From my desk i can see my Giro Atmos (sitting on the roadie saddle) and sitting in the back of the car is my Giro Havoc. Not anti-helmet in any way but fed up of poles with bias, deliberate or not, reinforcing a particular view point.

I agree, GT is fast and easy(comparatively) with what is just across the road/round the corner. IF you want to think there are hundreds of miles of potential from GT bottom car park, but it’s not waymarked. THe Gypsie Glen descent is the faster and longer and more flowin than anything at GT, just watch out for red socks.

You knows the risks you takes your chances.

OH and the questions are flawed. Try asking how many hours of accident free/injury free cycling there have been and there will be huge numbers to be bandied about. Not saying it proves things one way or another.

The “what if” arguements don’t stand up to scrutiny unless you go back and recreate the accident without/with the lid in place and i personally am not willing to crash test dummy every scenario but i know some people who i would volunteer.

It’s the “this crash could have been nasty therefore every crash could be nasty” arguement.

MIne are fine got them om all bikes. Never serviced just a spray of lube every so often. Each is now over two years old and had lots of abuse, they’ve clocked well over a thousand miles each.

We left the carpark at about 1020 and we passed one group on the climb to the hut and met at least two others. Even met a pair and a single as i was fixing my puncture on deliverance.

And the black is getting busier. Agree it does kinda change the grading, skill level on red is now mostly blue, it may keep it’s red status because it is longish(?). Mind you lots of people will love it because it will be faster and not as scary.

Glad the wether is drying, time to get off the kitty litter and onto natural. GT is turning into a starter level trail centre, which is great for getting people into the sport/off their arses but will be hated by the gnarlmeisters.

Black to almost the end then when you get to the fire road climb back up for spooky wood, do first two parts of spooky then fire road back for the blue.
Go early if its a saturday morning, it was very busy this week and some users lacking in any social skills.

When it comes to pettiness, the people that have been allowed to become PCSO’s or police officers in the last few years mostly have something akin to a “God complex”.

Aye it’s a swine when people chose to help society and stop crims/bad people

the gorse had been hacked away last time i was up but it was still rough. To be fair there were some pretty big/deep washed out bits appearing. Great for coming down but rubbish for vehicles i would reckon.

I did the ones on my eyebromw myself. Rather scary trying to cut the stitche with a scalpel pointed at you own eye. Especially as you start having “what if……” thoughts

Congac has a great municipal site with pool and two years ago they laid on the second last day of the tour to pass by just for me, which was nice. They also lay on free cognac tasting, which was very nice, but too much makes mrs koak puke inside tents, which, as you may guess, is not very nice.

I don’t mind going the wrong way but always inteh dark so i get plenty of warning from oncoming lights.

Is it possible they were trying to be helpfull? As in “you’re going the wrong way you may be lost”.

I’d be surprised if the procurator takes it all the way. Talk to the dentist cicumstantial evidence that he made contact with you. If you can’t take a smack in a rugby match you’re in teh wrong sport (not you him). Not saying it’s right but rugby is about barely controlled agression sometimes we let loose and cross the line.

So if they were questioned in Manchester and then some of them bailed. Was it a case of “On you go sonny. Lift back up the road? No way.”

Was that not an MBR route a few years back (like 8 or so). If so it’s a scunner. Lots of hike-a-bike. Black sail pass has a nice wee scramble and the descent’s not as good as you’d think. The return is a path less well trodden.

Ap i think the suggestion generally is the OP is fit for the commute but because that is repeated not fit for the cycle that pushes beyond that. And yes if the distance is repeated and is the exercise (busy life precludes most other riding i think) then recovery will be needed if only to let the legs rest.
