My photo job was cancelled tonight at The Customs House, South Shields – arrived to find a sea of flashing blue lights and got turned away as the whole place was full of water.

The Tyne has been quite badly affected.

Rudebwoy, I’ve got a set of them! Well, one clip, I lost the other one. Haven’t noticed them on anyone for a while. Roadies tend to wear lycra and mountain bikers, shorts. Not always the case though.

I have seen trackies tucked into socks though. Sometimes they are riding a bike, sometimes not.

Blooddoner, brilliant! Runs off to change forum name to ‘gadget-shitter’.

2 Lanes you must be on the faux North up here we have 1 lane on the major roads.

I travel to Aberdeen regularly with work and my preferred route to Edinburgh is the A697. Net slower driving speed, but overall a far more pleasant journey.

To be fair, I only notice Toyota Yaris drivers who drive in the left hand lane of motorways (we only have two lanes up here in the grim north) as they generally drive at 56 mph despite no cars in the slow lane (I fully embellish the stereotype I am portraying here).

But, I do take mild offence to my refined level of bike snobbery.

My Father in law had a problem with the pcb which housed the ECU on his Volvo. He was quoted ~£800 for Volvo to replace and coukd get a genuine part for around £350.

He removed the pcb, took it to the local tv repair shop who charged 8 quid to test and repair.

    The car worked fine after.

    Drac, let’s revisit your first post;

It’s because that’s what you want to believe.

What is ‘it’ that I want to believe? I have tried to explain that I notice both ends of the spectrum and all modes inbetween.

Not really sure what your point is now.

Like I said earlier, this was meant to be a bit of fun.

Yeah there are those who for some reason dress to the stereotype but again we notice them more as it’s what were expecting to see.

Ok, then there is one lad I see most mornings (sorry if you are on here), who rides a BSO on the North rd out of Darlington. He properly gives it some. Wearing (and I kid you not) a orange hi viz vest and a full face helmet. Hardly any stereotype. I noticed him because he didn’t wear standard mtb issue baggies etc.

Go to the Lakes. 99% of bikers out for the day wear bike kit. Do the ones who don’t stand out more? Yes. Your suggestion that I am blind to things I don’t think I will see is slightly flawed.

Drac, I didn’t for one moment have you down as a chav. My observations are not limited to stereotypical norms though.

I’m a strong believer that males in particular, tend to ‘dress up’ for the occasion. Take storm trooper downhillers or someone who wants to start running, who then buy all the gear.

I like to ride in a tee shirt in the summer, sometimes in jeans.

Yesterday, I saw a lad on a spesh camber wearing q full face mask fleece hat. It was 10deg at the time.

I disagree here (and to be fair, I intended this to be a bit tongue in cheek). Once the bike is half decent, the rider tends to wear a helmet, sometimes bike specific clothing, and never, ever have I seen a decent bike with a plastic bag on the seat.

Care to provide a pick of your bike seat Drac?

Not sure about that one Drac, I tend to check out most bikes I see. I then obviously rank both the bike and the rider in true STW style.

Tonight, for example, the ‘offender’ nearly drove into the side of my car as he crossed the road (path to path). As I glanced at his tracky, I noticed the plastic bag on the seat.

It all adds up to the same. Every time.

No helmet too. But that’s another thread.

Kev: 2D details are not a problem, it’s the 3D families that make up the drawing, such as windows, doors etc that are the problem.

My background is more from Revit Structure, so Architecture may be different? Are you not able to create parts from the geometry of the 2D detail by importing it (Not you, I mean the software??)

    kevj

Do you have an existing library of 2D CAD details? Maybe a case of using these to develop individual parts, then assemblies etc. It’s a lot of man-hours but once you develop the library that is where you begin to save time. I’m from a structural background, so steel sections are all pretty standard. Foundations are all pretty unique. From your perspective it’s the thousands of repetitive details?
I do know a local Revit re-seller to me that provide additional services (Programming, standards etc.). They may have realised there is a market for families. Other than that, try the various Revit forums, as there is often a share centre.

Revit (Or any BIM software product) is geared up for suppliers & manufacturers to produce their own models populated with data (All for end client use/ FM teams etc.) which allows the model to be used during the buildings ‘in-use’ life cycle.

Are you architectural? [EDIT, er yes, read the title properly!!]

The structural engineers will supply their model with the structural parts/ sub-assy’s etc. You may only need to provide basic space envelopes for them to work from at the preliminary stages.
M&E disciplines supply their elements of the model etc.

The model should build up with accurate components as the design progresses and should* be an accurate digital prototype of the actual building.

    * The end client does not always take advantage of the full model post hand-over, although this is / will become more prevalent in the future.

Junky, yes you are right. But the tone wasn’t as low as nuts (horrid mag imo) and there is nothing wrong with anyone’s opinion. The point of this thread is to point out the disparity between decisions.

Pan fry (not deep fry to be a pedant). Season with salt and black pepper and allow to rise to room temp.

Fry in hot oil until <however you like it>.

Season again, rest it for five mins then serve.

    Anyone tried it?

A brick is quite heavy and big for one hand to pick up. The surface of the world is scarily massive.
Not sure that’s any more than an observation

    Erm, yes?

When read in conjunction with my previous post, it may make more sense. The net amount of mass gained/ lost, relative to the mass of the earth is tiny.

    kevj

Thinking about this again, the earth is actually pretty fooking massive. We humans think on a very scalar level.

In the bigger scheme of things, it means f.a. The mass of the sun, the relative mass of our iron core has a very marginal effect on our orbit.

The balance of (very engineered to be light weight) man made satellites and additional mass due to impacts has a net gain /loss of ???
I dint know the figure, but it will be point 000 of a percentage.

OP, what is your current skill set? Often much easier to migrate into this role rather than jump.

My experience is that although the opportunity for CPD is there, the pressure and workload is often prohibitive. I fully accept not all companies are made equal.

    Good luck!
