Too late now, but drive to a garage and use their industrial vacuum to remove the majority of it. That’s what I did when J jnr puked in my car. I later paid for a valet, but at least the chunks were gone.

P.S. I did clean the vac nozzle with baby wipes when I was done.

Well done Warton jnr! Daddy Warton, it’s a brilliant feeling isn’t it?
My four year learned on his first attempt (I’d gradually moved his stabilisers up with him knowing). I have that moment on video.

I worked with a woman who bought a house on a new development on the banks of the Dearne, she was most put out after 6 months when it flooded. The address? She lived in The Watermeadows, doh.
Because they thought the people who built their house wouldn’t have dropped it in the middle of a flood zone? That’s not such an unreasonable thing to expect tbh

In the first instance, I do have empathy for the lady, however, to mirror a quote from the recent stamp duty thread, if I were spending that amount of money, then I’d be looking into this myself. That said, it is the responsibility of the builder to inform the buyer of the risk. In this instance, ignorance or a poor solicitor is possibly to blame.

I accept I don’t have all the facts.

These one in a hundred years storms seem to occur every couple of years these days

Yes, this is true and why the correct term for global warming is in fact climate change.

Analysis from ten years ago is completely out dated and as such areas which were deemed not at risk now are. Subsequently, the monies spent to protect should, and will increase. The problem is that there is a time lag between a flood event and the protection being passed by funding, planning and being built.

Sorry, but I disagree with the sentiment in the op’s post.

Flood defenses are funded on a cost and risk basis. To provide adequate defenses for a one in a 100 year storm event is far more expensive than a lesser storm. Land take is also greater and nimbys complain about the aesthetics of them.

The balance is the cost to rectify over the cost to protect. Yes, government have the final say, but it is the EA/ civil engineers and cost experts that advise them.

Personally, I bought a house on a hill.

This picture (not mine)was taken at Seaham during the storm swell:

I was involved with the replacement dock gates there a few years back and we designed them to withstand a swell. At the time the contractor queried how much rebar was going in but when you see the power the sea has, it’s satisfying to know the right choices were made.

The waves weren’t that spectacular yesterday, although my kids still enjoyed it.

It was very windy though, this newly planted tree was nearly uprooted and a gust took my son’s hat clean off his head and into the sea.

@northernmatt, they are doing up the full promenade at Roker and may even drain the tunnel along the pier and re-open that.

Real shame if that is the price. Love Pearl Jam, but food, drinks, over night stay, tickets and travel to Leeds is the best part of £500 for the wife and I. That’s a lot of money for Jeremy.

I’ll keep an eye on this thread as I have been watching the progress of Fracking as an emerging industry in the UK.

The company I work for provides blast protection, generally for offshore applications, but the extraction process and associated risk has similarities.

As for experience, I imagine someone who has worked offshore, or someone with on-land drilling experience (Geotechnical exploration/ boreholes etc.) would be very well suited.

Then there is the whole H&S, logistics side to consider…

Viz top tip. Buy a bike calendar and a titty calendar that are the same size. Place them side by side and ensure each month matches the actual month.

Depends really. Are you still providing food, washing, cleaning and a home? What percentage of your income covers these items?
I’m not trying to be harsh, but my mum was too soft with me and it took a while for me (after I left) to comprehend the cost of living against what I earned.

As ninfan said you’d need to gather evidence of 20 years use by horses (as BW’s can’t be claimed for by use on bike) in order to put in a claim, but seeing as it’s only relatively new the claim won’t pass the first hurdle unfortunately.

Out of interest, I assume the twenty year stipulation can stretch back a long time?

There are a good deal of old mine tracks around upper Teesdale that are classified as footpaths, but make better bridleways than designated ones.

Back to the op, Durham cc have dept. dedicated to this. Probably only one bloke on a p/t basis.

Quite surprised at the number of people with weapons at their bedside. I’d be interested to know how many people have been burgled and what percentage of those the burglar has approached the home owner.

I suppose it offers a little peace of mind when going to sleep at night.

For me, it is doors locked, key in lock (on the inside). My car key is downstairs in a the same place every night.

To be fair, there is an estimated figure based on simplified geometry and there is an exact figure determined by a far more complex combination of factors.

How many marks is this question worth?

The reaction at ‘A’ is different than that at node ‘E’. But the allowed displacement is unknown

In real life, the connections, member stiffness all contribute to load path analysis.

    Too many unknowns hence ‘estimate’.

Back when pubs closed at half ten, there was a couple of Italian restaurants who would take bookings for between ten and half past. Once you were in, you ordered a bite to eat, but essentially it was a way around the licensing laws. I had some good times. Cracking atmosphere and poorly Monday mornings.

That’s great news. I saw the milkyway for the first time near Hepple. Around 4.30 in he morning and bitterly cold and as drove down into a dip, the view was simply amazing. I pulled over for ten mins to take it all in. Makes you feel small, but, wondrous at the same time.

Winston, there was nothing ‘to win’.

[Irony] STW [/Irony] often has threads that reduce words to abbreviations within one or two posts.

The Newcastle fans comment was only relative due to someone mentioning the score and the fact that Newcastle were playing Manchester United today.

My opinion is as valid as yours is, hence posting on a ‘forum’.

I agree with you, my initial comment was written prior to me reading the sky article.

It does seem as though you are trying to provoke a reaction.

Winston Dog, you are quite right. I missed the word ‘some’ and pointed the finger at all Newcastle fans, which isn’t fair.

Sky news story corroborate Twitter. Like I did say though, it could have been any club.

Newcastle fans actually have a very good reputation as travelling fans and are frequently described as other fans favorite visitors

    Twitter 1

    Twitter 2

Two independent quotes there. Yes I agree, the idiots are in the minority and the rest will condone their actions. It’s an absolute shame that in this day and age people associate football and allowable violence.

I’m not having a go at Newcastle fans, I simply pointed out there had been trouble. It could have been any team.

Most number of arrests for football related incidents

A three letter acronym is a form of abbreviation and does not constitute the formation of a new word. The OP did exactly this with no prior reference to RVP standing for a persons name or an object (although I accept he said ‘has asked for’, implying a person).

In your head do you say ‘OP’ or ‘O P’ when reading posts? It makes a significant difference, yet your point fails dependant on which you choose.

    kevj

Is it all of the fans have done that? I’d be confident that the vast majority of fans would be upset by the actions of a few individuals. It’s completely irrational of you to blame anyone and everyone who follows the team.
And by the way, RVP isn’t an acronym

Clearly not all fans were involved, but there is a higher incidence if hooliganism related to this club over and above others. This was highlighted in a recent survey. I shall dig out a link for you if you wish?

RVP became a TLA as soon as the OP referred to him as such. It’s not your place to tell anyone what is, or indeed, is not an acronym, specifically when the words are reduced to their constituent first letters.

Newcastle one up with 20mins to go….

However, their ‘fans’ have hospitalised a child and caused damage to a service station.

I follow football, but why the Newcastle fans seem to think hooliganism is still acceptable is unbelievable.
