When a big fattie family approach my checkout, I can tell what a huge load of shite they are going to put on the conveyor belt before they even pull it out the trolley. Conversely, bright eyed, jolly healthy slim people usually have loads of fruit n veg and nice “clean” food. Whoulda thunk it?!

an anecdote that refers to the genuine character of the guy, that everyone will “get”. Ohhh… he was just like that.. just be heartfelt and kind.

Kit for the job. We all fall for the marketing. Some stuff really works though, like gore tex, windstopper etc. But as for fashion.. It’s so cool to look back at proper old photos of bods going up mountains. hammering bikes for 100 odd miles a day. what were they wearing? hi tech brands? I Think they were doing stuff because they were motivated and driven to do something beyond the normal box, and stuck on what was necessary. It’s more important to continue to have that motivating thing going on, that drive to go out and go, than the latest clobber and brands, and being a purchasing sheep to advertising and marketing hype. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing what is comfortable that will keep you warm and does the job for your ride. But I hate things being sold as a “lifestyle choice”. I suspect a lot of that crap ton is chucking out is this stuff. There is a local bloke who rides a junk bike up n down the coast in wellies, and a bunch of stuff he put on that day. he’s slightly touched, but he does 100’s miles a week. so he’d cane most people on the milage “stats”. I think I get what Ton is saying. Maybe a Lidls version of Rapha, without all the poncey bollocks. anyway, I’m rambling.

only reason I know what that thing is is cos when I were an art student a mate bought some for his Vanitas paintings from a wierd local antique shop. also in these paintings was a very dead Tope (mini shark) from the fish counter in ASDA where his bro’ used to work and they had a special display at the time or something and wanted rid of the thing.. he put it in his Vanitas “death things” still life display and painted from it all summer. It started to stink. to the point where he had to get rid. I got called in like a Harvey Keitel Mr Wolf type “cleaner” to help “dissapear” the stinky rotting fishy tope mess. We hauled it out the studio, got a few yards out the studio, down the hill, and threw it in a hedge. It stank the narrow road up to his studio for months. And even now, when I cycle up that narrow little road, I’m sure there is a mini shark skeleton hidden in that hedge. God knows what future paleontologists will make of that one.

it’s true. If you are ever worried, or think about your drinking at all, keep a diary of your units per day. you’d be surprised how easily it tots up.

love that crystal castle pic, is that castell y gwynt? You sound more knowledgable and experienced on the Welsh mountains than me Rob, it’d be good to meet up with someone local sometime? I’ve done a bit now, but the guys I go with don’t like ridges like Crib Goch, but I’ll happily have ago. I’m looking for that extra push…

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/north-wales-natural-trail-conditions-again-for-this-time-next-week

I’ve put some good links on there. an if you’re not on facebook, then join it and join those links. they’ll tell you what you want to know. There is a facebook for Llandegla as well. Everyone disses FB but it can be a fabulous source of info, just like this place. Between all the fb mtb site daily updates, you can get a very good general view of how it’s going with snowmageddon down here I reckon.

was walking up Drum today. some mtbers were coming up as we were going down to aber this afternoon (hello! if you’re here). Fair do’s, they looked serious. But it was going to be a bastard hard ride to be enjoyable. Just hike it! It is starting to thaw out a bit though (notalot) but then freezing overnight.

I would just like to **LIKE** what Rusty said. ahd a brilliant weekend sans bike.

If you’re looking for a mean average to give you something to judge yourself on. Remember, the boozy lurkers and proper pisshead posters won’t tell ya! ;) For a good moderate drinker, I look to my old man, never, ever drank more than 2-3 pints or 2/3 bottle of wine. Never seen him proper f**** up pissed. Held down ajob his whole life and raised a good family etc. But he drinks every night. works out about 35 units per week I think. It’s obviously something I’ve thought about!

Marin Trail facebook page 27th Marcch update..

“One of the local Forestry Commission Staff said “The forest Roads are bad up on the Pen Y Parc and I struggled getting up last Saturday. There is 6inch of snow on the Roads and Marin singletracks are treacherous. Also, there was another inch of snow last night. I`ve cancelled a night ride tonight as well because of the conditions, sorry no Pics.” So things are tricky if you are trying to ride the Marin trail this week.”

    might’ve changed since though..

here’s how it looked across Ogwen Valley yesterday, Cowlyd and capel are out of picture to the behind and to the right of that big lump (Pen Llithrig Y Wrach)

“Folks, it’s time to evolve. That’s why we’re troubled. You know why our institutions are failing us, the church, the state, everything’s failing? It’s because, um – they’re no longer relevant. We’re supposed to keep evolving. Evolution did not end with us growing opposable thumbs. You do know that, right?”

facebook search “penmachno mountain bike trails”

    their post today:-

“OK, so the trails are still pretty snow-bound. Although the sunny sections are virtually clear, there are still a lot of sections that have snow, especially the wooded sections. We’ll go with Eric’s split of 60% pushing & 40% riding. We just need the temp to rise a bit to melt the snow! Definitely Penmuchsnow…..”

mate went walking around Cowlyd area yesterday (thurs), from his piccies still looks pretty bogged up with the white stuff round there.

Personally, I thought the “I don’t know how to replace a windowcleaner” thread was more 1stworldproblemmy than this “I don’t know how to wake myself up on time” thread. This one’s just stoopid. C’mon CFH, must try harder with the 1stwordproblems!
