Mountain equipment Ibex trousers are pretty nice. Stretchy and have zipped vents on the sides of the thighs.

They’ve been crap for years now really. I lived in DM’s most of my teenage years and wanted to buy a pair a year or so ago and like the original poster was really taken aback at how much they cost.

I think i may have had rose tinted specs on because they are pretty uncomfortable and the air sole is a joke. The fact that they’re very en vogue at the moment means that if you wait a month or two Ebay will be swamped with pairs that have hardly been worn.

I have the Weber go anywhere and the larger outwell folding bbq, it’s just ok for bbq’ing on and would work ok as a firepit as long as you aren’t anywhere that cares about grass getting burnt/ruined with hot ash. It is a pain to set up unless you’ve lovingly cleaned it after using it and removing the ash is a messy affair which kind of renders the compact design a bit redundant and that’s where the Go anywhere wins out.

Just finished River of Time by John Swain.

I’ve read a lot about Vietnam over the years but not a lot about the end of the war and the disaster that befell Cambodia in the late seventies. South east Asia also seems to draw all sorts of romanticism out of writers.

The Lost mines of Phandelver starter kit is a pretty decent way to get into D&D. The hardest thing to get right is whoever is controlling the game and it’s narrative (the DM/dungeon master) it can make or break a game depending on how up tight they are with the rules. Lost mines is a relatively short adventure of maybe three or four sessions. It has all the premade character sheets and shortened players guide rule book and some decent prompts in the adventure book itself to get you going.

Another game which plays fairly well and can be appealing to younger members of the family is Mice and Mystics, its board based with some nicely illustrated game tiles and has (yes you guessed it, knights who’ve been turned into mice.) They get to fight cockroaches, rats and the big baddie a cat. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/124708/mice-and-mystics

I use a D&D 3×3 here, no issues with it and plenty of loops etc for hanging it.

Like a few others I lusted after the early pace F100/F200 series hardtails. The GT Zasker  the Proflex 856 which just looked so futuristic back then the fact that Caroline Alexander rode one might have helped a tad too. Other worthy mentionables go out to Orange P7 and anything by Moots in titanium.

I recently bought a Mountain Equipment Frontier softshell and have been pretty impressed with it. Similar ideas to the op’s post was looking for something that could go over a base layer or thin fleece for summer use.

I do wonder how it must feel for the folks who make this their vocation, i wonder how many left university with a degree and thought “Some day i hope to be writing articles for people to read while they’re taking a dump.”

Stopped  buying them all as i got a bit disillusioned by the expense of everything bike related. I have the digital sub for Singletrack now but more from a point of view that i enjoy the forum and feel i should give something back.

The best bike magazine in my opinion was BIKE magazine the US mountainbike mag, brilliant stories and amazing photos. It always inspired me to get out and ride.

I just replaced our deck recently and wasnt looking forward to getting rid of 40 feet x 15 feet of old decking. Turns out i needn’t have worried, the wife stuck it on facebook and it was gone in two days. I was very surprised as a lot of it was rotting but apparently the couple who came and lifted it were going to use it in a stove…rather them than me.

I took an old pair of my hockey skates and got them converted to inline with the Mars blade chassis. I had a pair of ccms converted a while a ago but didn’t get on with them even with a high low set up. These feel a lot more like ice. So much so I have to keep reminding myself not to try and hockey stop.

There are various types of wedge and corner kits if you need to angle the camera. Our one has screws holding it into the holder so its not just a case of lifting it off and away, but like naything if they really wanted to steal it they could. On the plus side you wil have a video of them doing it i guess. Personally i’d put it outside.

Play this on and off, on pc its pretty immersive when using vr. I used to have it set up for voice commands using a program called voice attack so a lot of sub systems could be engaged by just talking into the mic but ive since reformatted the pc and it was a pain in the ass to set up first time around,

Radio 6 does tend to play some edgy nonsense a times but as others have said music is subjective. At least they are only three minutes or so long.. i can switch off my brain for that length of time and just not listen to hard. Mary anne hobbs on the other hand…

As a barber myself, its often diffcult to know when someone wants to chat or not. Social interaction doesnt really allow us to ask straight out if people want to chat or not…at least not without it feeling really awkward.

Some folks come in for a chat more than a haircut because they are on their own at home or whatever. Some folks come in that we are really glad to see and chat with.

You are kind of taught to chat and make the whole thing an “experience” but the longer you’re in the business the more you realise that some folks prefer to just sit in silence.

Additionally theres some clientelle that i’d be more than happy to never hold another conversation with again, just as long as they keep giving me their custom.

I usually have a little spyderco squeak with me, it gets used for lots of things, opening boxes, cutting tags or packets open etc. The blade length is such that noone has a hissy fit if they see it.
