Had an email response from Syntace (good customer service) who confirmed that the O ring is 12.5mm diameter with a 2.5mm cross section but that it is actually only cosmetic and the new version won’t include an O ring.

I ordered a couple from Ebay for not much anyway.

Timber – have been searching for some reasonable 120mm QR forks with 1 1/8″. Also hard to find!

Ah yes XM317 there doesn’t appear to be a 319 with a braking surface.

Rhyno lite’s certainly seem to have the width. Good option I reckon and cheap. Only downside is weight but then the Alfine hub has already made that a non issue ;-)

Will 2 cross be strong enough for use with disc brakes on the P7? Thanks for that tip.

    Thanks all. Good suggestions :-)

And yes the SLX calipers are threaded they just don’t come with the threaded pins. The split pins have annoyed me by catching on the spokes quickly solved by bending them more for now but looking to get rid.

CHB thanks for the offer but these pins are for disc brakes.

Cheapo ones may well be full of air. They have been sitting unused for best part of a year, possibly upside down. I will try to bleed as a immediate step but the truth is I want a different feel on the FS so the SLX will be moved on to the HT (and the cheapos put in the spares box).

Zees are reasonably priced and general opinion seems to rate them well in modulation terms. The XTs look so similar in design to the SLX it seems hard to believe they would be much different.

Rotor sizes and pads are good points. What pad should I try for better modulation/feel? I tend to be a bit haphazard with what pads I use (stock Shimano ones still in them at the minute).

curto – I just deleted them, seemed easier.

OK so I might have had a beer. Thanks all.

Me + friend. Thanks for the ideas so far. The observatory sounds good, and Create but it is not open much today.

Can I use a Shimano BB with a SRAM crankset?

Any thoughts on the SRAM GX and BB compatibility?

Other than that sounds like I just pick my Shimano price point!

Next time I need cranks I’ll be going down the Race Face Chinch route.
    Do look nice

I agree, do they do anything better? Direct mount ring I guess.

What about SRAM GX, any good and will it work with a Shimano BB (I have lots of them in the cupboard)?

I’d watched the video and rene59 explained what they failed to in 2min of video!

Agree, lockon grips have already greatly decreased the issue.

Thanks, I had downloaded it already but if you look at the two they differ for the reason Ashley mentions.

Spoke to a work colleague this morning who did it and suggested a few changes to get away from some of the bigger roads.

Thank you, will take a look at that, any others keep ’em coming :-)

Hello, I am heading to Finale in three weeks time (4 September) but we have left it rather late to sort accommodation for our group of four

Will try the vacanze sul borgo noted above but does anyone have any other good suggestions? (we are already looking at the Air bnb option).

Would also appreciate any gpx routes or links to routes in the area between Finale and Nice. Will be doing some shuttle days but also hope to do a few more up and down days in Finale and a couple of other places.

Is this only true for the Mattoc then or could you always run a 650b fork with 26″ wheels?

If you buy Manitou Mattoc Pro 650b fork what needs changing to run it with 26″ wheels and what are the geometry issues when running on the front of a Cannondale Prophet?

How much does the ‘offset’ mentioned in this post mean? Is that the same as trail and is it a big deal to run a small wheel in the 650b offset version? (scratches head)

Northwind – OK that is the sort of experience that makes it sound worth it. Thanks.

sandwicheater – you should market that advantage.

I understand there is protection I am missing out on but I cannot actually see what that protection means.

Do I get my money back should goods/service not materialise?

When the Reverb and the Lev are well rated and already cost enough I don’t see the point in cashing out any more for a Thompson.

darrenspink – noted on the 150mm drop. I will go for that providing there is room.

Edit – that could be a point back to the Reverb as it doesn’t look like the Integra comes in 150mm drop.

Surely the amount of drop you can have depends on what height saddle you need?

But yes I am planning on at least 125mm.

Who would I be dealing with when the KS goes wrong? tbh I have no idea, especially if I buy it off a German website.

Mr Toads wild ride at Tahoe – awesome
Downieville – brilliant riding, brilliant town, Yuba went beyond the call of duty for us.

Make sure you book accommodation ahead at Downieville, it is a pretty small town at the end of a long road surrounded by not a lot.

Those were the best riding spots we got to in two weeks but we loved California! As others have said be realistic about driving times we spent a lot of time on the road as well as riding.

Ah OK, so you booked accommodation and guiding with them but equally we could just contact them for the uplift aspect of it. Got it.

    Ecky-Thump,

How did you find out which trails to ride? Do you have any gpx tracks of the riding you did?

Also how does the uplift work? Who does them and do you need to book ahead?

Looking at the distances involved etc I am thinking we should stay most of our time in Finale and then some time in Molini Triora for a change of scene.

That area and riding described on the XC/AM trip sounds pretty spot on. Have you been with them or just ridden in that area?

I’m assuming that the mid cage rear mech is the right choice with 1×11 setup?

Also will it work out OK with a NW ring on my old XT HTII M761 crankset or does it need a special chainline?

Having now fitted the kit I would say it is loads easier, and you will make a much better job of it, with the components stripped.

Thanks el_creedo, I was suspicious about why the price quoted was so much less and they explained that there would be another £50 on top of that so dodged that one.

Ah I see, this frame is fresh out of the box so tend to agree and will wipe it over with the watter+diluted shampoo it suggests using to fit them with prior to fitting.

Ah I see. Unfortunately Cardiff is not sufficiently popular to mean those sort of services exist. Looks like all hire cars are £100+ per leg as the ones gobuchol refers to all exclude a one-way charge it turns out.

Think it is looking like public transport is the best way.

What do you mean by a local shuttle service please? Another plane or some sort of car related thing?

    keppoch

No not cheaper to fly to Bristol/Cardiff.

Will look at the airport website for the airport based companies.

    keppoch

Most of those comparison sites don’t have an option for one-way hire unfortunately.

If you are in the area for that long I really would recommend at least one natural ride. Black Mountains killer loop is a good pick I reckon.

As for getting lost on it you would be able to get a gpx of that route and follow it on a phone.

So I am interested in pretty much the same, from the above the places mentioned are:

    Bagnere de Luchon, France
The Gers, Gascony, France – see SW France Cycling Adventures
    The Vosges, France
    The Alpine route 1, Switzerland
    Vinschgau in Süd Tirol, Switzerland
    Zona Zero trails, Ainsa, Spain
    Cami de Cavalls, Minorca, Spain

Two more I have spotted and would be interested in opinion of are:

    Livigno, Italy
Finale Ligure, Italy (other recent threads on this)

    Any other ideas?

We have tried scrappies including via those ‘I need this part’ mailing lists to not much success. Most of the Micras are 3dr but this is the ‘Special Edition’ with all the fancy features like being 5dr.

Nissan main dealer is of course an option but with the car not being quite so ‘special’ as it once was I am keen not to spend more than 10% of it’s value on a seatbelt (whilst acknowledging that I do want a safe car).

Simon, I will drop you an e-mail, that sounds good :-)
