Singletrackmind – I don’t really have a clue about the cost so interested to hear all views. Cheaper good for me!

Going to try and get something booked this weekend :-)

Thanks all, useful stuff. Any other ideas appreciated.

Any suggestions for where in Sweden?

A grand all in sounds pretty good to me. The Igluski deals seem to start at about £600 so I guess by the time you do travel to the airport, additional food and drinks £1,000 seems likely.

Thank all for the suggestions! Planning to go via Avebury to Stonehenge.

Interested on that point on the entrance fee, so are you saying I can walk to the stones themselves with the same level of access/proximity without paying? Not that interested in the centre and definitely not fussed on a bus to take me a few hundred metres!

Are people commenting on the Wileyfox Swift or the Wileyfox Swift 2?

At £119 was tempted to the 2. Spec and size look good but clearly a real world opinion is more relevant!

Way better cause than what I spent the last 5er on.

    Done.

    Thanks all.

Not staying in Tregaron itself and was not expecting any major attractions more the kind of thing suggested. Looking forward to a night away.

    Ah yes the chain :-)

OK, breaking and 99p starters seems like the way to go.

njee20 – Are you interested? I’m struggling to know.

It’s a CoilAir Magic Link, 18″ frame so not really small. Touch small for me at 6′

Fork is a tapered 26″ Fox 36 FIT

MagicLink frame are hardly common and likely to interest some and not others.

Rest of the parts are decidedly non niche.

It’s not a stealth ad, it was a request for help from knowledgeable people.

    I’ll try the link again.

Put on a std pallet diagonally . There will be minimum overhang.
Wot he said. Diagonal on a 120*100 pallet is 156.

But the axle has a width of 28… so it doesn’t fit within so this is a way to tackle that:

go 3D and lift one end of the axle.

But I like the TNT suggestion so long as my guess of the weight is right! Seems simple.

maccruiskeen – I’m not sure who delivered it as it was sent to my garage but it was lashed to a small pallet with a couple of manky old seatbelt offcuts!

I’m assuming Windwave only sell to shops?

Bearing kit listed for £29 on their site so seems quite a hike to pay £53 but the MB bearings one has a buy button!

Is it possible to buy the guide pins/bushings yourself? or is the service the only way?

What grease do people use? I have some Manitou MPrep from way back. Would that be suitable rather than buying yet another specific grease!

    Brilliant days walking.

We did it in a day starting on foot from Curry Village in September 2012. Plenty of parking from memory.

As others have said starting early is the best plan. Perfectly doable in a day but you will ache on the next day.

We carried lots of water but still needed to fill up.

The cables are a bit intimidating but views are worth it and not as busy as that picture.

Don’t drive to Lake Tahoe immediately after like we did!

Are there others that do this sort of thing with the pictures:

Thanks, that is useful. I’ll be using a USB keyboard and have a USB mouse available. I have a caddy so I will do the SSD formatting bit using that before I install it.

AlexSimon – point taken but I suspect the rest of the computer doesn’t justify Pro!

I’ve seen the ifixit instructions but not read them fully recently. Use of disc tools sounds OK.

The computer is pretty old so keen to avoid a direct clone approach to leave behind any accumulated junk I don’t need. I’m no expert though so that may well be a unjustified concern.

Yes the SSD will be my only disc.

Good, seems like Samsungs are well rated :-)

I have a time machine disk for my iMac. Am I right in thinking that I will only therefore need to fit the new SSD, turn the iMac back on and then plug in the external time machine disk?

He is probably shorter rather than average limbed. He’s 70 and we are going to Oregon on holiday so looking for something capable and comfortable.

He’s been to two Evans stores in London today trying to find one but nothing representative in either and suspect stock is limited. Frustrating as I totally agree with you that trying one for size is best.

TheDTs – Thanks for the offer but I am looking to hire enough for 12 people.

T1000 – thanks that is useful. I will look them up. Hopefully they can do transport as I would rather do one way, out and back can feel a bit frustrating I find.

I’m not sure what it is to be honest I can just feel the slightest knock/play when I pick the rear end of the bike up (stationary not riding) and the bushings are easier/cheaper to eliminate than other things!

Just looked back and it is a Hope HSC2 top

Searching for that brings up this that also shows an O-ring:

Hopefully Hope can sort me out if I call them. Guessing I dropped it somewhere in the fork transfer a few months ago

Um… integrated I think. The cups are mostly inside the frame. I looked at the Hope website but it only seems to have an exploded diagram for the standard sort.

Sounds a brilliant simple system. Whenever you are on here you always sound like the sort of tradesman I wish operated round these parts!

Like you say, I don’t want the hassle either.

The roof is no bigger than 4x3m
I had a verbal estimate of time of 2-3 days. The price was agreed on a list of tasks.

I have done exactly as you suggested and requested a breakdown of time and materials for the extra tasks being clear which I do and don’t accept.

I have just spoken to their office on the phone. They are requesting payment of the initial amount and I said I was happy to pay for agreed works in principle but needed to check whether this would predjudice payment of the disputed tasks.

So based on advice I think I will withold until agreement is reached.

    Thanks for your help.

    keppoch

No that is not what I was asking.

I was asking whether I should pay the initial agreed amount for the works I am happy for now and settle the disputed extra works afterwards or whether I should withold all payment until the additional costs are settled.

I already have replied in writing to the invoice and attached proof as you suggest.

    Thanks wrightyson

The work was done by two roofers and a labourer. They worked two pretty full days (0730-1730 first day and 0800-1500 second day) and looked to be working hard, quickly and effectively. To be honest I think all the problems have come from the boss at the office rather than from them.

The extra tasks detailed (and in their words) are:

    1. Removed rotten rafters to the rear annex
    2. Supplied and fixed replacement rafters (all old original rafters were moving and not fixed at the bottom and top wall plates).
    3. All toes and rafters (top to bottom) were re-screwed into the wall plates
    4. Supplied and fixed rafters in between the old original rafters (to re-strengthen annex structure).
    5. The bottom of the rafters (joining on to bottom wall plates) were treated with Cuprinol.
    6. Top course of slate batons were drilled into the top wall plate to strengthen and bind the annex roof structure.
    7. Supplied capped ridges (different to original quoted ridges)

    Of these tasks:
Numbers 1, 2 and 5 were simply not done. I have proof of this (photo of old rafters still in place!)
Number 3, 4, 6 were done but seem to involve minimal materials or labour
Number 7 was done but I would only expect a marginal cost increase as the original quote also included replacing the ridge tiles (and really I would have expected them to know what sort they needed as they came to look at the job)

The total extra cost for these items was £630.

I’d be grateful for any opinions on how much a reasonable extra cost would be. For what was actually done I am thinking around a third of that. I don’t really want to turn this into a big hassle but equally I don’t want to pay for work that has not been done.

Cheers nickjb, pretty much confirming my thinking.

Yes my next step is an email back to them with a number of photos proving my points.
