Using 130mm Pace RC41SCAM here. Seem ideal and lighten the gas pipe weight a little.

Just a note that I have recently changed from 90mm 15 degree stem to a 70mm 0 degree and the bike feels loads better for it.

Don’t really suffer with pinches much (jinx!) but seems like something Maxxis is a safe bet.

    Thanks all.

The new ones are 872 upper and 871 lower.

Can’t see what the old ones are as I don’t have them out at the moment.

Is it 873 that I need and if so do you know where to get them?

    Thanks, this may be it.

Have you been before or is this a first trip? I’ve been for a week for the last two summers, the first one was 7stanes plus some extras and the second week was venturing a little further north.

For me the best stane was Kiroughtree and the best from the other week was Aviemore, nice area great riding.

Happy to send you other details of the rides we did and places we went if you have an e-mail I can send to.

Will also be interested in other suggestions as we are heading up again this summer, a little further north again, aiming to take in Torridon amongst others.

Just to chance a slight hijack if someone with no idea did want to get their mountain bike better fitting in order to spend some of the money currently propping up a wonky table (nothing to do with the knee pain I am currently suffering) who would people recommend? The same people/places or somewhere different?

Some very idyllic sounding commutes there! My <3 miles includes at least 14 sets of traffic lights.

I felt like I had done something special when I hit all 14 on green the other week!

Bingo. Yep everything matches up. Thanks all.

wysiwyg – I have just been downstairs to check for tampering, I had as little faith myself.

I remember 24/7 from back in the day, I have an old T-shirt somewhere in the draw. Looks like their website has moved since I saved it in my favourites, pleased to see they are still trading, remember the Dark Angel being something of a pioneer frame.

Now any tips on that headset….

Oh another difference, no bolt through on this one.

Hmm looks like a deviant with a difference

Hmm true, the one in the more dirt pic looks like a 24″er whereas the one I have is 26″. Similarities but the dropout area looks a bit different too.

    Yes it does rather:

That one has no V brake bosses is the only difference I can see.

Thanks for that, definatley looking for a triple and should have mentioned that secondhand budget likely to be around £300-400 so looking to pick up something someone has got bored of but still probably a bit hopeful to get a Cannondale Synapse for that money.

Off to look at Giant defy now.

Panasonic looked to be the best when I bought for my parents. The ringtones are a bit naff and not loud enough for my deaf mother to notice. Speaking volume and clarity is very good though.

Thanks BearBack, good to get some international advice :D what you say sounds sensible and particuarly your point about suitability of the paint on solutions for interior use.

I know what I am proposing is probably a bit over the top but caution at this stage will provide comfort later is all I am thinking.

Any thoughts from the UK daytime?

Have followed your advice and five sessions of fill and sand and the results are pretty pleasing. I will post some pictures at some point.

I’ve no interest in going into business doing this though!

    Thanks all.

Kings of Leon, Glastonbury 2008. I’d heard of them never really been into them, never been to a festival. It was pretty much the first thing I saw of the weekend, it got dark we wandered down, I realised at that point I was going to have a great weekend and that I knew a lot of their songs. A band on a stage seizing the moment. Awesome.

Have had 130 and 150, either worked well. A-C length makes as much difference. The 130mm Pace forks were only 10mm shorter than the 150mm Fox.

Hold up somthing 20mm long and ask yourself how much difference it is really likely to make on top of 130mm. Would get whichever forks will work best (damping etc) for least maintenance and least cost, then think about the travel. I ended up with 150mm Fox Float 32R as they were cheap with 15mm QR.

Mine is the old version though so may have suited shorter forks better.

Thanks for these, it is looking like the Myka is a front runner. I also have a friend with this frame who has got on well with it so sounds good.

Still interested in any other suggestions though.

    Thanks.

    bigyinn,

very interesting what you say there, my parents have the sort of problem Oggles mentions, and yes they sometimes do have a crackly line. What would your advice be? to have the line checked?

I have replaced the Linksys router they were using with a Netgear one and the connection has not dropped yet so it seems to be less sensitive to whatever the problem is.

    Bonding? Is that bonding plaster?

My only other idea so far was to glue in a piece of wood of something like the right shape and then fill on top of that.

Cheers chaps, more dust and filler it seems!

The cost of the product is nanoscopic in comparison to persuading people it is worth drinking, at the moment this involves:

Formula 1 team (600 strong work force)
    WRC involvement
    Planes flying between gigantic balloons
Numerous crash helmets for X-T-reem sports persons
    Man in flying squirrel suit
    Irritating ad campaign

A friend used Noahs Ark recently. Very very slow and suspected involvement in cross-threaded top cap. Shame really because they were so much cheaper than the other options it would be good to report on a positive outcome.

The fork does work a lot better post service though.

    Have now seen these hubs:

    http://www.circusbike.com/circushubs.html

offered at £80 for a pair (so probably about £60 rear only).

Does anyone know anything about them or Circus bike, these seem to be about the only solution!

Just great. Use mine every day, no more batteries to worry about no more lights to get nicked. Costs quite a bit more if you want a standlight to stay on when you have stopped. I just have a basic one.

    Shimano type.

he’d be willing to sell ;-)

Not in the industry and no real idea on this but I remember seeing a piece on Countryfile (I think) about a farmer who had diversified into this and was doing really well out of a number of small scale stream systems which sound similar to that which you describe. Payback is the biggie I guess.

DT78 – I was at the bike show yesterday and spoke to the Hope stand. Apparently they do make a 24H but only as part of a Hope Hoop, not sold separatley. Shame.

epicyclo – that is beginning to look like the most likely way ahead. Mavic 819 so not that cheap. May warrant hanging around for something 24H to come up on Ebay as he has bought a cheap wheel for the interim (the end of the last wheel happened whilst on holiday).
