I can overpay up to £500 a month on the mortgage. I'll look into that a bit more, but I wanted to keep a bit by to get the house shipshape. I'm not really worried about running debt up again, although I hope I'm not being complacent. My attitude to money now is a world away from what it was 12 years ago, when I turned up at uni and gladly signed up to everything they offered – interest free overdraft, credit card, student loans. Entirely my fault of course, but I no longer have the same 'oh I'll worry about that in the future' attitude I had then. As I said, it's my one chance for a clean start as it were, and I've no intention of being indebted to anyone again without very good reason (mortgage aside), it just feels like a burden now.

CC's are all going back once they're paid off. A lack of foresight when I left school and started uni, the resultant debt has been a monkey on my back ever since. Not causing me a problem, but holding me back a bit. I don't want to be in this position again, and a chance for a financial clean slate as it were isn't going to come round again for me. The wise old monkeys who tell you to save up for it if you really want it know what they're talking about.

A bit like Sean Bean in Ronin…..ex SAS and basically shits himself and starts firing on shadows.

He was pretending to be ex-SAS though, rather than actually being ex-SAS.

If he is breaking the law, which it seems he is, and people ring up to complain about him, I don't suppose they have much choice whether they arrest him or not.

I'm not pupil 1, but I might get in the queue. I've obviously got potential.

Why would they give you a receipt? I don't give people a receipt when I've paid them to do something, they give me one. Apart from pupil 3 who had a refund, what are you talking about?

You never see a ginger couple do you?

How can they expect normal people to go out with them when they won't even go out with each other?

I think creationism holds that the earth was created exactly as set out in (English translations???) of Genesis, i.e. in 6 x 24 hours periods. Not all Christians believe that that is, word for word, exactly how it happened. Creationism is not as simple as 'God made the world'.

Slow down bikemonkey, let's get Genesis verse 1 resolved first.

Fair enough mate, I'm not meaning to have a dig at you.

I just wonder though, is it that tricky bits get left out, or is it that these bits aren't actually tricky?

Dunno if it's convenient or not, don't know if it's correct or not.

But if I'm going to read these threads and ponder the issues, which I end up doing, I'd rather ponder what people really think, not what the narrow minded assume they think.

Doesn't Christian mean 'little Christ', that term deriving from the fact that they follow the teachings of Christ, as found in the New Testament Gospels?

I thought the Old Testament was seen by many Christians more as a history of the Jewish nation/race, more often than not highlighting the mistakes they made, so setting out why the new covenant offered through Jesus was necessary.

(Sorry if I've got this wrong, RE lessons were some years ago).

ernie_lynch wrote something not long ago explaining the relationship between the OT and NT very well.

There's one of these threads, what, once a month or so?

In all that time I've never once seen one of the Christians on here say that creation as told in the OT is fact, but there there's always plenty of the anti-Christians telling what the Christians think.

Comments on this story have been disabled for legal reasons

Is that normal for court reports? You can often see all sorts of comments on local news websites, with minimal moderation. Perhaps there is information that isn't allowed to be reported for some reason. I find myself in the 'there's more to the story' camp.

for a start, no matter how high up you are, and how bright your headlights, you cannot see round bends. you won't see oncoming cyclists, walkers, runners, horseriders (as others have said) and you certainly won't see stray sheep, stray cows that often occupy such country roads.

yeah but you still wouldn't see these if you were on the correct side of the road would you, only difference being that they'll be coming the other way, but most of those things you mention are so slow (or stationary) that it wouldn't make much difference whether you can stop in time or avoid them once you have seen them. Cars or motorbikes are a different story, but as above they;d have lights on.
