Shibboleth – It does, where is it?

I’m over at the end of May also!

I have just spoken to ‘mytyres’ who I purchased the tyres from. They seemed very helpful and suggested that I used them a bit longer and if not happy then I should call back to see what they could do for me.

The theory of a greasy release agent from manufacturing might have something to do with it, as I felt that the steering was noticeably much lighter when stationary just after having the tyres fitted.

Not that this helps at all, but I have exactly the same problem.

Since swapping my nice grippy summer tyres earlier this week, to a set of Nokian WR-D3 I’ve lost all confidence in the car on corners and have to be very careful when applying a bit of extra acceleration.

I hope that they scrub in soon, I’ve only done around 50 miles so far, but not liking the initial grip levels, roll on the snow. It’s not much fun driving a Golf GTi and holding up the grey haired Micra drivers.

Thanks for all your comments. I’ve just fitted a 55mm stem and had my first ride out on it yesterday. The steering has sharpened up nicely, still nice and stable on the climbs and the balance of the bike is much better. May experiment with seat position a little next to fine tune. The Easton Haven stem is great quality and looks good in silver with a black faceplate and at £45 not a bad price.

    Happy days

Left my PC for a few minutes then get all these responses, cheers guys.

The bars are fitted to an Epiphany with a set of 150 Revs up front, I tend to rides mainly XC trails but also the fun bits around Guisborough Woods, hence didn’t want to go too wide on the bars (tree clearance). I’m definitely not DH orientated.

My thought were along the same lines as MtbRoutes, that the wider bars with the existing stem might be putting more weight on the front of the bike and hence lightening the back end, the shorter bar might correct this and quicken up the steering.

Good suggestion about going for a cheap stem first, I might give that a go, any recommendations?

Thanks for your suggestions, is there a way of testing if the compressor clutch is on its way out or failed?

Looks as though a re-gas first, but would rather not throw away money on a re-gas if the gas will be lost again if they need to replace the compressor.

    Thanks.

It’s a 2006 and probably hasn’t been re-gassed before. Hopefully not a compressor failure as seems to work reasonably well when it decides to.

We’ve bought a few prints from this gallery and we’re pleased with them.

    Hope you find something suitable.

Hi, just done a similar conversion (36t middle and 22t granny, ditched the outer). Bought some single ring chain bolts but still had to file them down. However it may depend on your crankset and chain rings.

That was what I was planning on doing if I can confirm that they are counterfeit. What if the seller denies this, will it be my responsibility to prove it somehow?

Is there a critical oil level inside the damper?

At the max rebound damping, you can just about hear it trying to suck some fluid though but it makes little if any real difference.

If the internal oil level has dropped I guess this suggests an oil leak in the cartridge.

Thanks, I’m in the process of doing that.

Just wanted to know if this is a common problem really?

Any users of the RCT3’s care to comment.

I’ve just got a set of RCT3’s and the rebound adjustment appears to have no effect between max (hare) and min (tortoise) settings in either the ‘open’ or ‘threshold’ settings, i.e. the rebound is very quick and no damping is present.

It’s a dual air and running both chambers at approx the same pressure, filling +ve first then -ve.

Also the low speed compression setting appears to have little effect.

I’ve tried purging all the air out to test the compression and damping circuits, but it behaves the same way.

Is the fork goosed? Is it a known problem or have I set the fork incorrectly somehow?

There’s a good one in Rosdedale if that’s not too far way from the coast.

    http://www.flowerofmay.com/rosedale-park.html

I’ve never stayed there personally but know some that have and rate it.

There’s another one in Goathland, that I stayed at many years ago, from recollection it was quite basic though.

How particular are Collect+ about the exact sizing of your parcel. I’m needing to send something around 600x150x100mm, but notice that they quote a parcel size of 50x30x30cm. Have you ever had anything rejected for being oversize?

Hermes might take it but not had a recent good experience with them.

Has anyone found an android app that will show bike computer type things – e.g. speed, distance, time and an offline map – basically like you can do on a Garmin?

Have a look at IPBike on Google Play. It’s a very powerful and flexible app that you can configure to suit your needs and have a live update on a downloadable map. The interface takes a bit of getting use to but it’s worth it. Free trial period if you want to try before you buy and the support from the developer is excellent.

It might help, but I had a similar situation, where our joint current account had gone slightly overdrawn, which I corrected the next day, but HSBC were going to charge their standard charges. We have multiple products through HSBC and when I explained what had happened they cancelled the charges, which I was pleased about.

Interestingly they can set an alert up that texts you if an account balance drops below a level that you set. Since setting it up we have received a text from them when the balance dropped below our limit, enabling us to transfer some additional money into the account.

Thanks, great advice from the subtle to the more direct i.e. blunt.

I guess that he’ll have to read the individual situation, for example, a private seller may have an unrealistically high opinion of what their van is worth and wont be swayed (of course non of those type of people on the STW classifieds). The dealers may have a more realistic expectation but are trying to make a living (but preferably not from this sale).

A large part of it will come down to confidence and honesty in what he’s saying i.e is there any point in saying that ‘can’t afford to go more than £28k’ then when the reply is ‘well I can’t let it go for less than £29k’ to start negotiating around the £29k. I’ll suggest that we line up two or three viewings over the same weekend, starting with the least preferred option, get them as far down as possible, but then ask for a little bit more off, then make it clear to them that we’re off to view other potential vans and we may get back to them. It may be that one of the vans will be exactly what he wants and will be prepared not to negotaite so hard for that one but at least he’ll have options.

    Thanks guys for your opinions.
I’m not sure what speed I might have been doing at the time, it was in a temporary 30 zone through some overnight roadworks, on a road that is normally 50. I feel like a bit of a knob as I might have been over the 50 and endangering anybody that could have been working there. I’ve lost several hours of sleep and worried about the potential consequences, not only if I had caused an accident but also if lost license what it could mean for my employment. Driving license is not essential but it would not have gone down very well with my employers, particuarly as the stretch of roadworks is right outside me offices!
The Mrs was following me home along the same route that night (but within the limit) and it wasn’t until she got home and asked ‘…….if I had seen the camera?’ that I really started to brick myself. I hope that she was mistaken.
I have also seen another comment that suggests that they will not issue points on a license if within a temporary speed restriction area (unless on a motorway) but there will be a fine.
Only a few more days to wait for the NIP!
    Drive carefully!
