Would be fine if large vehicle overtaking then immediately turning wasn’t so common.

CCTV exists. Even if it’s valid that large vehicles that can’t see anything but straight ahead are ok and important (not accepted) then there’s no justification for the blind spots continuing.

My comment was in response to suggestions that the stickers are shorthand for ‘the driver is lazy/dangerous/incompetent’. They don’t absolve the driver of responsibility, but I see them as a valid warning.

Stickers on large vehicles make sense to me. Whatever the arguments are for better cab design, the fact is they currently have limited visibility and a lot of cyclists seem somehow unaware of how dangerous it is to pass them on the inside.

Perhaps cycling organisations need to conduct surveys of their own, with attention grabbing leading questions?

Who could possibly disagree that the roads would be a safer place if all motor vehicles were painted bright yellow and escorted by a pedestrian waving a red flag?

From what I can see via Twitch the VR games are still mostly pretty clunky and it’s the novelty factor of VR + the immersion that grabs people and allows them to overlook how shite some of the games actually.

It’s interesting, a lot of VR games look overly simplistic but are way more engaging than you’d expect.

My first recommendation for anyone already a gamer trying VR is Superhot. On the face of it, it’s a simpler, shorter game than the non-VR version. You have less options, until you realise that you don’t need predefined actions in the same way you do with a gamepad.

If you want to shoot blindly round a corner or throw 2 knives at 2 enemies at the same time you just do it. You can also hit your head on furniture while dodging bullets, but it’s all part of the fun.

I bought an accu-gage from the US Amazon site, they include taxes etc in the shipping cost and it worked a lot cheaper than eBay or any of the UK based sellers I could find.

I’ve grown up pretending to kill people so maybe I’m biased, but I don’t see it as any different from kids playing with toy guns, reading superhero comics or watching action movies.

As pointed out by others there’s no blood or gore in Fortnite.

After doing white lights and ‘tasteful’ decorations the last 3 years, my tree now looks something like yours. One set of lights already died though.

There’s not a lot between the quality of the rift and vive. Oculus were late to the party with room scale tracking but they have it now. You’ll want a 3rd camera for the rift but it still works out £200 cheaper.

VR tech in general is definitely not at the point I’d replace my monitors. There’s a lot of promise there but developers are still learning how to make the most of it.

It’s hard to describe if you haven’t tried it but it genuinely feels like a different medium to normal video games. You can interact with the world in a way that isn’t possible using a mouse or a gamepad.

The downside to this is a different type of design is needed and a much greater attention to detail. It’s jarring to find objects that have no physics or interaction, or scenery you’re expected to lean on or vault over – common game mechanics that don’t translate well to VR.

If you haven’t already, explain your concerns to the insurer (politely) and ask if there’s anything else they’re willing to do.

I’d focus on it being a brand new bike and presumably insured for the full value, which has now been significantly reduced by the crash and repair.

This suggestion is coming from a customer service perspective rather than a legal one. Get them on your side and avoid accusations, e.g. saying the repair isn’t good enough.

If they’re still unwilling to help, maybe try citizen’s advice, or hope one of STW’s resident lawyers weighs in?

The longer you want your hair the more time you have to spend keeping it neat imo. The long and untrimmed tramp look is rarely a good one.

What do the terms of your insurance policy say?

It’s hard to tell from your pictures but it looks like a decent repair job, is your issue the border between the orange and the black? I think your only comeback would be if your policy specified replacement.

I’d go 1x especially as you’re leaning that way already. I prefer the simplicity of it and it doesn’t feel harder to ride up hill than my heavy hardtail with a granny ring.

For reference I’m using a 38t chainring and 11-42 cassette on my whyte Friston. I think I’d prefer 36 at the front as I’ve not found top end speed to be a problem.

I’d second getting a cheap 800, if you want to prioritise keeping the cost down over having a newer unit it works well enough.

It’s not as good for turn by turn navigation as you’d expect from a car GPS but it’s fine for referring to occasionally or following a pre made route. I often use mine just for the map without a route, it’s easier than digging out a paper map and I can use the road navigation as a backup if I want to get home quickly.

Green – thanks but I really don’t want to stretch my budget this close to Christmas.

I do see quite a few come up within budget on gumtree/eBay so I suppose what I want to know is how much difference it would make if the bike is small for me?

Any BMX is going to so far off what I’m used to, is an extra half an inch of top tube going to be noticeably more comfortable or is it just obsessing over geometry when I could be riding?

Yeah their clothing is fine, I have a few t shirts and some shorts. The cheapest stuff isn’t as comfortable but there’s nothing wrong with it.

I have one long sleeve running top from there I really like, this one.

I hate it when I have to google these things

Me too, I’m only getting dull goretex ads.

Advertising some small animals for free as I needed to re-home them (not children). One guy was texting every 10 minutes to explain how he really really wanted them and asking why I hadn’t replied yet. I also got asked by multiple people to deliver them half an hour’s drive away for free.

Once I put a nominal price on the ad all that shit stopped and they quickly went to someone who already had pets and didn’t seem like he was going to breed or eat them.

You can get active noise cancelling in ear phones too, though it’s somewhat less necessary as they create a better seal in your ears.

Price wise I suppose it depends if your priority is noise cancelling or sound quality.

6.5 may be longer than average but I wouldn’t go waving it around.

Bizango, recommending what I own. When I started I found it gave me much more confidence than the cheap XC-style bikes I’d ridden before. Now I’m learning to ride faster it’s only getting more fun.

Does the soundbar have some kind of HDMI passthrough (not sure what the right term is)?

I have Xbox > soundbar < TV < PS3 all connected with HDMI cables, and a bunch of other stuff connected to the TV by other means.

I then choose either HDMI in (Xbox) or ARC (TV or anything connected) with the soundbar remote. It sends the Xbox picture to the TV and sound to the soundbar.

Edit: just looked up what ARC means and that appears to be what I’m doing with my setup. If both your TV and soundbar support ARC you want to use that HDMI port to connect them, then other devices can be connected to either the bar or TV.

You’ll honestly be better off going through their online returns process. Go to your order history on the site and click ‘Return or Replace Items’.

Depending on the item and if it was a 3rd party seller it may not let you do an automatic return, in which case it gives you a ‘Contact Us’ link so you can phone them.

I have a Simba too. John Lewis stock them if you want to try one first.

I did try some of the super expensive Tempur mattresses at the same time which were amazing if you can afford it.

DPD I think. But the last couple of times I ordered next day they were cheeky with it. Marked as dispatched on time but didn’t reach the courier or get tracking information until the next day, for delivery the day after.

Finished it the other night. It’s still good but I feel like it’s lost the tension.

I get the first season was playing off horror tropes and maybe the change in tone is deliberate, but they’ve replaced the mysterious and half hidden threat with a monster shown from the start and a bunch of dogs.

It’s why I bought a Giant e-bike for Mrs BigJohn and it’s turned out to be a great success.

Never let the truth get in the way of a professionally offended rentaquote.

It’s the assumption or implication that the female casual cyclist wants the e-bike to keep up with the male serious cyclist.

That may well be the case for a lot of people, the advert may be a totally innocent attempt at targeting a certain audience.

The problem is that advertising and media in general contains a lot of this subtle bias all over the place. It gets painted as taking offence or getting outraged over nothing, but calling it out is the best way to make brands aware that a lot of people want this to change.

CIT not established? Seem to be getting alright reviews ok amazon.

I don’t know it myself, it might be fine but definitely do your homework on PSUs. A lot of the big brands are rebadged models from a handful of OEMs anyway, but they at least have some quality control and go through certification.

It’s like buying off brand lithium batteries or phone chargers. They can have 99% good reviews but if the remaining 1% catch fire or electrocute someone it’s not worth the risk.

I’d recommend not going ‘cheap and awful’ for the case and PSU.

Cheap cases can be a pain to work with, and cheap PSUs can be outright dangerous.

Get something from the budget range of an established brand.

Your SSD options will depend on the model of laptop. Look for any covers on the sides or back you can unscrew, they should have little icons next to them.

You may only have one hard drive bay in which case you’ll have to swap them over, any standard sized SSD will fit. You may also have an M2 or mSATA slot which can take an SSD in a different form factor, and will allow you to keep your current hard drive too.

Or if you can find the exact model number of the laptop you should be able to look up a spec sheet which will tell you what expansion slots you have.

Putting an SSD in is the absolute best thing you can do to speed up any PC. You can keep your hard drive for storage and run Windows and any programs you use regularly off the SSD.

Go through all your background processes and look for stuff that doesn’t need to be running.
