Yeah, that’s what I was thinking.

Worst case scenario here is really that she lets it knock her confidence and doesn’t interview as well as she would otherwise. Would be surprised if the panel hold it against her, especially something like the NHS where interviews probably have a fairly rigid marking system?

I can’t imagine any reasonable interviewer holding that against her, but understand it’s probably not helping her confidence going into interviews.

I think the best approach would be to mention it after making introductions – “Sorry about my face, I had a fall the other day” but don’t make a big deal out of it. Maybe it would be better not to say anything about it unless they bring it up?

Would you think less of someone because they were injured the first time you met them?

No they genuinely can’t tell, it’s not a case of whether anyone’s checking. This is all assuming you don’t have any kind of corporate management software installed on your own phone.

2.4GB is a lot if they’re normally just used for emails.  Whether anyone will notice depends on your company’s data plan – but either way they still can’t see what you used the data for.

Make sure your phone’s on WiFi as much as possible, disable app updates and backups over mobile data and it should be fine.

Can the find out if they contact Vodafone though? I’m probably worrying about nothing as I can’t remember viewing any dwarf porn, so if they can just tell I’ve been using to much data that’s not going to be an issue.. Even if I have to shell out 20 quid or so to cover it.

No, they can’t. Probably logged somewhere by Vodafone if it’s a legal requirement but they wouldn’t turn it over to your company. They’ll be able see how much data you’ve used & a list of calls and texts you’ve made, but it will be dates/times/durations/phone numbers only, not the content of messages or what the data was used for.

SIM cards can’t to my knowledge be locked to a specific phone. And they won’t be able to tell what websites you visited unless you have company software installed on your own phone.

In my limited experience, you might have better luck talking to the agents rather than the company.

Had a letter through the door saying a collection officer had tried to visit, rang the company and they said they wouldn’t stop it, wanted me to fill out a form and send proof of tenancy.

Rang the guy directly and he just asked if I knew where the previous tenant was (I didn’t) then I never heard from them again.

Just don’t let them in if they do show up at your door.

Horsepower is calculated from torque and rpm. They will always be the same at 5252 rpm.

Simple explanation is torque is the power the engine produces in one revolution, while horsepower is its overall potential for power output.

So torque is felt as a more immediate response from the engine, but you can have a low torque high rpm engine or high torque low rpm engine with the same horsepower.

The outlast one is supposed to have magic temperature regulating NASA fabric, and a layer of down. I assume they used golden goose feathers given the price.

Drivetrain sounds fine at that price, same for the brakes if it means you get better spec elsewhere on the bike. Cheap hydraulic brakes still work fine in my experience.

Cheap wheels are standard on a lot of bikes, even much more expensive ones.

£1000 would buy you a Voodoo Bizango, a dropper and some better wheels, or probably last year’s models of various mid-range hardtails from the big brands.

If you’re going to have some kind of PC regardless then the cost difference between a console and a gaming PC is not that high.

Like with bikes and a lot of other hobbies – you can spend a lot of money on it but you don’t have to.  I’ve spent a fair bit on my PC over the years but then I’m still using some parts I’ve had since the last console generation.

If you’re not using the PS4 why keep it (says the guy with 6 consoles under the TV)?

Probably best off trying to learn a specific language rather than learn OOP as an abstract concept. I started learning Python recently and feel like I’m making sense of it a lot more than past attempts at programming.

Thanks, that’s where the confusion comes in, with a tyre swap would these sort of bikes be suitable for road, bridal, canal and importantly some mud and grass in winter or is that CX bike territory?

Yes, all the bikes mentioned here will be fine on that kind of terrain. I have a Friston and it’s entirely rideable on mountain bike trails, though obviously less comfortable.

The Glencoe is marketed for road use but it’s really just a case of being specced with slick tyres and the bigger chainring. For commuting I’d probably want that anyway, unless it’s really rough.

AFAIK the Glencoe is the same frame as the Friston/Gisburn, so definitely very capable off road with the right tyres. It does have a bigger chainring, and the bottom bracket’s probably lower with the 650 wheels.

Wash them thoroughly. Paracetamol. Paste of baking soda and water helps but then you have baking soda all over your arms.

Practiced a bit this morning, the suggestion to keep a foot planted on the ground really helped me get a feel for what I should be doing. I think before I was trying to throw my weight back more than push the bike forwards.

I haven’t managed to fall on my arse yet but I’ve managed to get the front wheel higher and with less effort than I ever managed before, so it feels like I’m making some progress.

Thanks for the advice geex and others.

We are supposed to wear lanyards, but I’m one of the cool rebels, so I don’t.

Wearing them outside of the office is against the rules, it lets people target you if they want to get in. So if you were a true rebel you’d wear it.

Van, bike, go sightseeing and find cool places to ride. Would probably stay in hotels if I could but occasional nights out in the wilderness would be nice.

Ubiquiti stuff seems to have a good rep, though not the cheapest it doesn’t seem unreasonably priced. Quick browse suggests it’s an achievable range for a point to point bridge.

Powerline adapters are much cheaper if it’s an option but I’m not sure what their effective range is.

I’d just go for a Halfords hybrid, given the usage and budget. If you don’t think he’s likely to get into it as a hobby I don’t see any reason to spend more.

Osprey viper 9 here, it’s excellent. No waist pockets but it holds a 2.5l bladder, pump, tools, food and has a stretch pocket just about big enough to stuff a softshell jacket in.

They’re very good with repairs too and sell repaired/returned packs at a decent discount on their site (you have to log in to see them).

If I may hijack a bit… all of the advice seems to be about finding the balancing point and practicing balance. But I have never even got my bike close to balancing, I can pop the front wheel enough to clear a kerb, or hold it up for a small drop on a trail, but that’s about it.

I feel like there’s something fundamentally wrong with my body position when I’m trying this, but whatever it is I’m not picking it up from youtube videos. I do practice and I’ve seen improvement in my riding in other areas, but not getting anywhere with this. Any suggestions?

Turns out most of us want bikes we enjoy riding, that may be different from bikes that different people enjoy riding in different places.

But only if we look fashionable doing it. Flat bars are so last season.

I have the AKG Y50BT, which are Bluetooth but can be wired. Cost me £55 and seem to go on sale at that price a lot – or the C50 which is identical.

They do get a little uncomfortable to wear for more than a couple of hours at a time but otherwise very happy with them. They definitely sound a lot better than similarly priced in-ears.

Yup, it’s just a lot easier to steal bicycles and to sell them on – though maybe a niche electric bike would be less appealing in the last respect.

The car replacement thing is tough. These bikes work best in large towns and cities but not many people have the option to store these big bikes but parking a car in the road is easy.

The tern one looks great for that. I do question how practical it is to use these in British cities with our wonderful cycling infrastructure. Parking my car at the supermarket doesn’t feel like a big risk but I can easily imagine coming out to find a £4000 bike gone.

What a strange attitude, what if you encounter someone who’s wrong about what they like?

It still sounds more than a little sexist to me, dismissing the woman and trying to sell the man a bike instead. It’s more passive than originally described and may not have been deliberate, but still.

Just to double check, is it showing in the lower pane of the disk management window?

The upper part won’t show new disks until you’ve set them up and assigned drive letters.

If it’s definitely not there, try swapping the sata cable with a drive you know is working and see if that makes any difference.

Well did you tell them you’d be moving or you’d be cancelling? The expectation is you take the contract with you when you move normally.

If you did tell them you’d need to cancel you can try pursuing it with the shop.

    kelron

I guess this isn’t what you want to hear, but you did sign a contract with them which presumably includes cancellation terms.

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>It also sounds like you didn’t specifically ask about early cancellation, so you can’t claim it was mis-sold? Moving house mid contract wouldn’t normally be an issue as they’d transfer it to the new address.</span>

Gravel bike was the answer for me, but I have to get off road to get away from traffic around here. I love being able to take detours over any terrain.

Will be a fair bit heavier than a pure road bike at the same price but it still feels light to me when I’m used to budget MTBs.
