I am pretty sure that hot air balloons, trains, cars and aircraft were the sole playthings of the rich and privileged when they first were commercially available for recreational purposes.
Good luck to them. Hoping the flight is a success, and leads to better opportunities for space flight, which will hopefully have an impact of good for all.
KelliesherosFree MemberIf it is the same as a plummet, then there is nothing to service. The two tubes just slide against each other and are not part of the system. The up and downy bit is inside the two tubes and is a sealed unit.
Apart from cleaning it, I am not sure what taking it apart achieves.
I took mine apart when it stopped working. But that was because the lever which depresses the button on the top of the sealed hydraulic bit had cracked. Threw it in the bin and bought another.
KelliesherosFree MemberSit up straight or with your weight slightly forward.
High strokes (passing parallel to boat) provide most forward power, wider strokes (arcing away from the boat) provide more turning.
Don’t look at the front of your boat. Pick a spot in the distance and look at that.
If you start turning to one side, make a wider stroke on that side.
KelliesherosFree MemberCensorship and freedom of speech are tricky concepts, terminally confused by Americans who can’t read their own constitution. It is now infecting the world where people think they have a ‘right’ to express their opinions.
Censorship is everywhere, some mandated by the government (on behalf of the public), some self imposed by individuals. Come to my house and drop the c-bombs in front of my kids and I will censor you out the house. Similarly, if you start espousing your opinion that actually sending immigrants back to their place of origin is a good idea.
Freedom of speech, again it is not a one size fits all rule. You can’t libel people, you can’t run into a crowded theatre and shout fire.
The important thing (and what the American constitution says but is ignored) is that “governments” (not bike forum owners) should not be able to stymie criticism of themselves by censoring dissenting views.
And before someone says, but effectively forum owners are the government, there is a big difference. You can go start your own bike forum to exist alongside, try running an alternative government.
KelliesherosFree MemberThe fact it is proprietary and not seemingly profitable are the two biggest red flags.
KelliesherosFree MemberRipple the company behind XRP is being investigated because their “currency” looks more like a “security” (I.e a share in ripple) and as such has been accused of selling unregulated shares in itself.
Buying is gambling that they don’t get fined into non existence. They have been de listed from many exchanges until the issue is resolved.
KelliesherosFree MemberYou may already know this but worth pointing out.
Some platforms don’t allow you to “buy” crypto just trade it (etoro for example) – if you want to own bitcoin use a platform which allows you to withdraw crypto to your own wallet.
And on that point – research the withdrawal costs. Again coinbase stiffs you here, but coinbase pro again is reasonable.
Coinbase pro is what I use but I am sure their are other platforms which are competitive on prices. Do some research.
Some good wallets for your mobile again look around. Whatever wallet you use remember to store safely your key (normally 12 words) – this is really what your wallet is.
KelliesherosFree MemberCoinbase is easy, but as mentioned above their fees are exorbinate for small amounts – for example last time I bought some (£50) the fee was £1.99. 😳
The answer is to use their pro platform. Most recent purchase of the same amount resulted in a £0.25 fee 😀
It is not as user friendly and you will need to go through the KYC and deposit funds – buy that is pretty much the same for all platforms.
Kraken is another platform, but not aware of the fees.
Avoid peer to peer “exchanges” like local bitcoins or bittylicous, good for tax avoidance, just as bad for fees.
I was curious in 2017, and bought £10 pounds. It is currently 30x the value.
I am aware that it is extremely volatile and I may lose everything. But I only put in what I would have spent on beer!
Avoid forums, and people who profess to be able to do technical analysis.
Have fun.
KelliesherosFree MemberThanks all.
My garage does have a decent wooden roof. Condensation isn’t an issue. It also has a brick facia / extension.
I will have a look at sorting the drainage. Problem is that the earth at the back is nearly as high as the rear wall. The garage walls are surrounded on three sides, by earth or other structures. Steps on one side. Earth at rear and another wall retaking wall on the other.
It is not a lot of water in the floor. Just a damp patch which spreads out from the rear wall. I could probably live with it as a workshop. But what with lockdown, it would be good to use it as an impromptu office on occasions.
Will have a dig around. It may be that there is some existing drainage which is blocked.
KelliesherosFree MemberIt might be part of type approval so would be coming to Android too.
I believe it is an Eu directive. So yes probably coming to an android phone soon (or maybe not considering how many android phones stop getting updates after 18 months)
We could of course legislate the right to ruin your hearing come the new year 😀
KelliesherosFree MemberBoth of my daughters use iPads for their school work.
Eldest daughters school requires all students to have a tablet (no laptops allowed) with them at school. We tried a couple of android tablets, but they didn’t really work consistently with the software the school used. Bought her an iPad. All good.
COVID lockdowns occurred. Both schools went to teams and office. Got my youngest an iPad and two Bluetooth keyboards. Again all good.
My take away is it depends massively on how the school set up their work. What are other students using?
That said any device should run teams and office. I would be wary of going to cheap, especially if teams video is a thing. My work laptop spins it fans up on a teams meeting and god help me if I want to present a spreadsheet at the same time.
KelliesherosFree MemberI have hugged my daughters every day for as long as I can remember.
Maybe my circumstances are different to yours and to the footballers? AFAIK current (or past) COVID restrictions have not stopped people hugging their loved ones?
Or maybe the footballers are staying in a bubble which means they are allowed close contact. Or are regularly tested.
I don’t think you need re-education, maybe step away from the righteous indignation and stop judging people.
Of course you could just want to start a nasty thread for your own enjoyment. That would be sad.
KelliesherosFree MemberAre there any “creative” solutions?
Yes. put a business case in to spend the money and upgrade the equipment. If you are asking is there a hack. No.
Attaching a computer to a network is not a one way process, at some level there is communication back and forth. An exploit is exactly that, a way of doing something via a means you shouldnt be able to. Those ransomeware attacks that spread a couple of years ago, they were designed to search out unsupported / unpatched versions of software on a network. even if th computer initially infected was patched..
KelliesherosFree MemberI assume the issue is that windows 7 is EOL and therefore is not patched against existing and future exploits. In that case no, Something is either networked or not, and if the thing being networked is marked to be not suitable for networking (because it is EOL and unsupported) you are boned…
Of course you could just plug an ethernet cable into it, but i would suggest that being a rather high risk strategy if the worst happens and your entire lab is locked out by ransmomware.
KelliesherosFree MemberIs there some weird irony where you want to ditch your smartphone for distracting you and because of the evils of social media, then asking a bunch of strangers on the internet for validation.
KelliesherosFree MemberGood luck predicting demand in emergency healthcare.
Err, yes you can and yes I did, not healthcare but other “emergency” demand profiles.
There are trends and patterns everywhere in life. You probably do it yourself. For example in my previous world people would know,Friday night is going to be busy. You know that New Year’s Eve will be busy, but New Year’s Day will be dead.
Summer weekends are busier than cold winter ones. You may not be able to forecast the exact numbers, but with enough data you can forecast within a known range.
When you understand the trends you then realise that having a fixed pattern is inefficient. Staff up to deal with summer weekends and you will have people twiddling their thumbs in the winter. staff to the minimum and everyone burns out.
I don’t expect you to believe me, by the way, no one ever does.
KelliesherosFree MemberFixed patterns are inefficient if you have variable demand. It sounds like they are scheduling to a predicted requirement.
If they are running a “flexible” pattern then best practice would be to offer preferences.
Sadly these systems reward people who participate in the process. I used to work in a place which would allow you to choose whether you wanted longer shifts (gave you a longer run of days off) and a preference of start times.
This works well if the employee is engaged, in fact there were several who could manipulate their shifts very well. Complaints normally came from the poorly briefed or interminably obstinate.
Ex resource scheduler.
KelliesherosFree MemberRe the suggestion to use a browser instead of the app, AFAIK Teams is an electron app (on windows) which effectively means that it uses a dedicated chromium engine instance. I.e it is the same code running on browser or app, just that the app is it’s own browser.
Which sucks a bit IMO because chrome can suck the life out of anything if you are not careful.
Running teams on my work (old) laptop with other resource intensive applications is an exercise in freezing. I now close any chrome sessions, outlook and share documents via share point rather than screen sharing large excel docs for example.
KelliesherosFree MemberI don’t think so. Isn’t type normally an attribute of the column. I.e date, integer etc.
I may be wrong. Excel is a huge app and you may well be able to add multiple header rows / configure custom types.
KelliesherosFree MemberPower query has been rebranded as get and transform in most recent versions of excel. Do a search for that in your version. Also check the plug ins : options and make sure it is enabled.
What does the api return? JSON, XML? If the request just uses a url then you may be able to just connect it to the source under the data tab.
I would be very surprised, if you can’t connect to a api / data source in excel.
Just read your update. Download power bi desktop. Sounds like it will do what you want as well.
KelliesherosFree MemberSort of autobiographical. Not at all sport related. Enjoyed them all.
Mr nice.
Agent Zig Zag.
Ghost in the wires.KelliesherosFree MemberHaving had a quick look at the prices for second hand 5th gen iPads on one of the bigger second hand retailers, you are looking at only a saving of around £70 pounds from buying a new current gen 32gb WiFi iPad.
Obviously eBay / private sales will have more of a saving but no warranty.
Personally if you can afford it, I would pay the extra and buy the current base model.
KelliesherosFree MemberFreedom of expression and opinion are enshrined in human rights law, but hate crimes are illegal
Malv has it, but it is not just hate crime, there are many exemptions defined in legislation which restrict your right to spout stuff publicly.
I am bored of the “free speech” defence which gets trotted out primarily by right wing a-holes. Not one person who has used this argument in the context of banning from tech platforms understand the law. It is even worse when it comes to our friends in the USA 🇺🇸. They have free speech enshrined in the constitution, but that is specifically about stopping the government from censoring you. Last time I checked Twitter/Facebook were not a government.
It is also worth pointing out that freedom of speech also includes not saying something. Yet all of these defenders of “free speech” are obsessed with forcing private companies to allow / broadcast stuff which is against their rights, and more importantly their terms and conditions.
All the right wing loons can still post messages on the Internet, hell there is even a festering cess pit of a twitter clone which protects “free speech” called Gab, I don’t suggest you go visit.
KelliesherosFree MemberI bet you can only see the thumbnails. Open the settings app on the iPhone. Scroll down to photos open that and check the transfer option.
To be honest the easiest way of dealing with this is the one that you turned off.
Turn back on iCloud, pay the small monthly fee for a bit.
Install the iCloud app on your pc and set it to download the photos.
Your iPhone should then offload the files to iCloud (where it will then sync to your laptop) and manage its storage itself.
Being brutal, if you don’t understand, use the simple tools they give you.
KelliesherosFree MemberAs in unlocked, entered passcode, and confined the dialog which says trust this computer.
One other thing to check, IOS does not use jpeg to store your photos, it uses heic. On the iOS settings, go to photos, scroll down and it will say something like transfer to Mac / pc. Is it set to automatic?
KelliesherosFree MemberTried it your way and I can access the folder and subfolders. The phone is unlocked and set to trust the laptop?
KelliesherosFree MemberI don’t understand why you cancelled iCloud. It is the easiest way of managing this problem. Install the iCloud client on the laptop and let it happily sync your photos. Set photos on the iPhone to manage its own storage and you are good.
Even without iCloud, I would use the windows 10 photos app to download the photos, on my laptop, it recognises that I have plugged in a phone and asks to if I want to transfer the files.
KelliesherosFree MemberI bought that arktec one for my daughter. It did just work, until it didn’t. The switches gave up, and we were left with a keyboard where 3 letters did not work ☹️
Bought in January as well. Have just bought a more expensive replacement, but can’t comment on its longevity, it is getting a lot of use though.
KelliesherosFree MemberWhat do you want to learn? I don’t understand the scripter / programmmer thing? What’s the difference?
I have used codecademy and Microsoft learn before, when I want to pick up some skills, but I am more interested in getting an understanding of languages rather than becoming a coding god.
KelliesherosFree MemberI don’t have anything to hide
Care to stick your address up on here and I’ll pop round to install a couple of webcams in your bedroom?
Everyone has something to hide, just because you’re not up to nefarious business doesn’t mean you don’t need a degree of privacy.
This is the second time that what i said, has been quoted, both times ignoring the but afterwards…
I don’t have anything to hide, but my privacy is important to me
As in, I am not a criminal, fraudster or shady character, but i still don’t want my personal data abused.
You would have a much better discussion, if people read what was posted, rather than reading what they think people are saying through their own prejudices or filters. 🙂
My concerns are about how long and how this data is stored, how when using it with other datasets, it coud be used to identify me. No one knows how long this app will need to be in place for, and how long after a form of “normal” returns it will still be tracing you.
read this if you wonder why having your location tracked is not a problem. (i know the app doesnt use location services, this is a point about how data collected for one purpose is used for another)
As i said in my original post, If the government want people to use it, they have to explain why these concerns are not valid. People saying that you are not a team player, or that this is a massive cummings conspiracy dont help either way, they just polarise the argument.
Peace.
KelliesherosFree MemberI don’t buy the Cummings evil puppet master stuff, but I do have concerns about the way that the app is centralised and collects data.
I don’t have anything to hide, but my privacy is important to me. That’s why I make the choices that I do about the platforms and technologies I choose to use and not use.
The case is for the people developing and maintaining and overseeing the app to explain and reassure me about how the data I will provide be used, stored, and if ever deleted.
When there seems to be a solution provided, which a. Is more private and b. Probably more effective, the above communications need to be even more clear.
Once you give up your privacy it is hard to reclaim. If they want this to work, the government need to address these concerns.
KelliesherosFree MemberSquarepusher ultravisitor? Never got past track 3.
Re: ozrics, I agree a hard listen, however the techno off shoot “eat static” – 😀
KelliesherosFree MemberI assume this is a short term rental?
Put a block on international or premium rate calls?
Move phone socket / router to a locked cupboard?
KelliesherosFree Memberhuawei phones until the ban is resolved are not going to receive any google android major updates. Whether or not this is an issue for you is a question of how much you are worried about your data being leaked if a security vulnerability discovered.
The bigger question is whether or not the phone you replace it with was announced or released after the ban. If it was then it will have no google services on it which means no play store and many of the apps you currently use will not be available. You can of course side load them, but again you run up against security issues.
If it was me I would not, which is a shame because the hardware is great.
KelliesherosFree MemberUsed brave, edge, edge chromium, chrome. Always come back to Firefox – which is not perfect by any means but I think it is important to have a viable competitor to chrome and chromium based browsers. Out of all of the chromium based ones brave appeals to me the most, privacy focussed and is actually trying to replace advertising revenue, not just blocking it. Founder got hounded out of Mozilla for questionable views. I am conflicted about that, I don’t like his politics, but not sure I agree that forcing him out was correct either.
Oh and AFAIK developers can only use the safari WebKit tenderer on iOS so installing other browsers on a iPad or iPhone seems to not bring much benefit.
