probably not if you are using them via the web interface.

power bi desktop can chug on low spec machines doing transformations on large datasets.

I have no experience of power automate desktop flows, but again I suspect that would be better with more ram.

I prefer Putsborough to Croyde beach. More sheltered from the wind. Nicer cafe. More space.

thatch is nice, but busy. Billy buds is I think the same kitchen / people. Manor good as well. Never eaten in blue groove seems a bit flash.

if you want a posher meal the boozer In Georgeham is nice.

Woolacombe croyde area is one of my favourite places. Go and explore further north. Some of the smaller Combes are really interesting. Lee is a lovely harbour. Two good classic pubs in Mortehoe as well.

The applications he listed he want to use are all FOSS and run natively on Linux. As i said above, they are perfect candidate for running a Linux desktop as they don’t have to switch or learn alternatives

For the applications you have listed, using a Linux distribution seems ideal. I don’t use windows for the same reason, I don’t want an online account and I don’t like all the tracking which goes on.

Mint is good, but after trying numerous Ubuntu based Diageo’s, I have settled on POP OS. Maybe not as customisable as others, but I prefer the pit if the box desktop environment to other Ubuntu / gnome flavours.

Download some ISO’s to thumb drives and try them out, then dual boot, then you may end up like I did, never booting into windows and destroying the partition.

If voluntary redundancy is available, they should advise you of how to apply. If they have not, then you can ask, if they are planning on asking.

Remember it is the role which is being made redundant not you. Normally they will look to slot you into a similar job description (quite often with a plan to retrain re skill if there is a small gap, and protect your T+C’s) You can refuse relocation, redeployment but you have to give reason as to why, in my place they were moving offices 30 miles away, many people said they couldn’t commute the extra difference due to child care, quite a few got redeployed to other roles on the same wage the same distance away. Only a handful ended up not being redeployed or moving.

Basically speak to a union. You can’t refuse offers if redeployment, just so you can be made redundant, you are making yourself unemployable and as I said above they are not making you redundant, rather the role.

Tell prospective employers, that it is 3 months but it can be negotiated.

Because that is all you can do, if your contract states 3 months then that is what it is.

However, it is a pretty blinkered org which will not enter into a negotiation, as a. They may expect flexibility in the future for them and b. Making a demotivated employee work for 12 weeks, can be damaging all round.

Edit. Just walking out is a fairly extreme form of negotiation.

I have a g-shock (metal 2100 as above) and a garmin instinct. Garmin has more functionality no doubt, but as a watch and something I like wearing the g-shock wins hands down.

TBF in terms of aesthetics/ jewellery the garmin is pretty much bottom of my choices. I have quite a few modest watches (divers and chronos) mostly and I enjoy wearing them all more than my garmin.

I quite like the g-shock in the original post. I am not sure it was meant to be. Tacticool though and I wouldn’t pay that much for any watch.

If you want your kids to experience things, most of the time it is down to volunteers. Not Scouts but my daughter loves playing football. Team went through a rough patch, lost the coach, then another. Team was going to fold, so I stepped up. It is as equally frustrating as rewarding. However my daughter still gets to play football with her friends, and watching her enjoy that is worth it.

Agree with going along and seeing what others are using. However for sprint and marathon racing, I am not sure I would want a “cag” I.E a waterproof top. Sounds really hot when you are working hard. Quite a few paddle co’s do thin lined neoprene paddle tops.

However, if they are looking for Something keep the rain off during training session, when hanging around a basic touring jacket would suffice I would imagine.

The yak cag / rubber seals/ double waist tunnel are all white water specific features which aim to keep u dry as possible.

    Number of the beast
    Appetite for destruction
    Full moon fever
    Levelling the land
    Music for the jilted generation
    Portishead

Not necessarily in that order, but all are soundtracks to some formative periods in my life.

My daughter has one. For the money can’t really complain. Low end but working fork. Hydraulic brakes. Gear range is a bit limited and 8 speed. Tyres and bars a bit narrow compared with more mainstream bikes.

Depends what you want, if you want a solid bike which can handle some blue level off-road for your kid, it is ideal for the money.

I am not a professional developer, but like to tinker and learning the basics of coding, is useful for my role.

I would echo the above mostly, lots of free courses / YouTube / around, and I have definitely learnt more when trying to solve an actual real life problem.

But I have used codecademy pro, and for what it is, I think it is good VFM, especially if you can still play monthly.

I did the python course, you use their browser based ide and shell, so no faffing about getting your environment ready, just log in and code. The courses are well structured and the community forums are good when u get stuck. They also have mini learn on your own projects that you can use, knowledge check quizzes at the end of the module.

Did it make me a python god, no. But it did teach me the basics, syntax and gave me a good base to understand what people were talking about when googling stack overflow and the like when doing things on my own.

I like it. One bit of feedback, when I first launched it, it looked weird, but then I realised that my device (iOS, safari) font scaling was set at 125% which seemed to break the layout a bit. I reset it to default and it works fine again. Not sure you can do anything about that though.

Happily though I think it is more legible now, so not really needing to up my font size.

SlS is basically recycled shuttle tech (without the plane shaped reusable bit) the SRB’s are the same, the main engines are left over stock from the shuttle program. The capsule is new, but could be argued that capsules are Apollo era tech.

The problem NASA has is that their contracts provide a lot of work for certain states, so the senate is not really incentivised to geeen light new stuff, rather continue the jobs and contracts that already exist in elected persons states.

I like rockets though, so will be watching. I don’t have an issue with space exploration, but not sure SLS OR Starship are the answer yet.

It is not clear as to whether or not it is your personal gmail account or whether it is a suite / domain one owned by someone else.

If it is yours,(or the admin has allowed it) then takeout.google.com will allow you to export your gmail. It also allows you to select which folders/labels to export. Either select all (23000 is not that much), select some of the default ones, or do as suggested above and create your own labels.

“Chrome cast with Google tv” runs android tv, just like the nvidia shield.

The previous chrome casts didn’t, but they were streaming (as in stream from internet) devices, they just didn’t have any UI, they used another device to control stuff (not 100% true as they were able
To mirror screen and have local streams, but for Netflix, iPlayer, YouTube, they streamed from the internet)

OP – if you have a lot of locally stored content, then why not replace
With another pc like thing. Pi with Kodi Or android tv?

Otherwise, get a streaming stick. The suggestions above are good. I would avoid roku and Amazon, they are cheap because they are either trying to sell you other stuff or just selling your data.

At that price point, go with what you like the look of. They will all be similar inside.

Avoid like the plague, anything which looks like AirPods or Sonys.

I would stump up a tenner or so and go with the cheapest anker/soundcore they do.

None of them will sound great, but the ankers sound good enough and have lasted my teenagers using them endlessly.

Utilise one of the free dynamic dns services? It is how I got around not having a static IP address. Although to be clear it is a bit of a faff and I only needed it for a specific shortish time period.

Paddling upstream is not impossible, I see you have sea kayaks, if you can paddle efficiently then you will be fine. Oh and April can have as big a flows as the winter.

My comment about going cookham to marlow, is more about the fact that it is the windiest section (hence why there is a big sailing club there) and it is normally blowing downstream. Plus cookham to bourne end is very dull.

If you are looking for a circular route (start and stop in the same place) then can I suggest looking at the henerton backwater and st Patrick’s stream near shiplake. One of my favourite summer paddles / floats. Much more enjoyable than slogging upstream.

This is my local stretch of river. As mentioned above, all the locks are portageable.

You haven’t mentioned whether you are planning on doing a out and back or a shuttle. This time of year paddling upstream is going to be harder than you think.

A really nice trip (imho) is to get on at Aston (the old ferry point near the flowerpot pub) and float paddle down to marlow. Takes you past medmenham, Hurley, temple and then into marlow. Lock your boats up at higginson park and catch a taxi back to aston.

Marlow to cookham is nice (better to stop at bourne end at the bounty) I wouldn’t want to paddle upstream that route at any time of year.

threads like this remind me of my favourite quote from Charles Babbage.

“Propose to an Englishman any principle, or any instrument, however admirable, and you will observe that the whole effort of the English mind is directed to find a difficulty, a defect, or an impossibility in it. If you speak to him of a machine for peeling a potato, he will pronounce it impossible: if you peel a potato with it before his eyes, he will declare it useless, because it will not slice a pineapple.’”

I find the one sidedness of this thread weird.

I am finding it a pleasant surprise, my perception is that there would have been lots of people saying that banning it is proportionate. Hopefully this weird attempt at marketing a law will fail.

It is ok everyone. I have hedged my bets and ordered another (With a discount BlueLightCard card holders get a chunk off)

With my luck and judgement, This means that it will all work out everyone will get theirs and I will end up with two! And probably ended up paying full retail.

I was going to buy a gps / fitness watch anyway for my imminent birthday, so in the grand scheme of things no real loss.

If it turns up = bargain. If it doesn’t nothing lost.

The verge had a article about the new garmin watches (leak) – new fenix, venue and a instinct 2.

The fact that there was more than one model reduced (different instinct models and enduro) may mean it was a case of getting rid of overstock before the new model launch as opposed to a typo.

I will wait and see what happens.

Awesome. Been looking at gps/heart rate watches for a while. Mainly a garmin or an Apple Watch. However price has always stopped me. However at this price, it is almost equivalent to some cheap Chinese watches. (Tic watch / amazfit)

Plus my birthday in a couple of weeks.

This thread is equally hilarious and depressing.

Stop looking at other people and judging them. Start looking at yourself and try to minimise your impact. Pressure (vote) our politicians to enforce rules which gently guide people to make better choices (better rules for new cars increasing energy efficiency, making more sustainable and less polluting fuels more viable economic, better infrastructure and public transport). Bitching at someone because they chose something that you find wrong, without understanding their or your impact is just stupid.

So… I just seen that the government has declared that it is returning to normal.

However I have just nipped out to pick daughter up (some buses were cancelled, leaving others overcrowded) and I thought I would see if I could get some fuel as it was near normal.

Out of five petrol stations I passed. 3 were empty. 1 only had petrol (I need diesel) and 1 had gridlocked half the town as people had seen that there was a tanker their and had decided to park on both sides of the main drag to get in (facepalm)

Yup. Nearly normal (still on fumes)

Interesting. We have been in our new house for 6 months plus now. We have a satellite dish and I believe it is a sky q (wide band) one. (It has two cables)

Anyway, most stuff we watch on demand, but it would be nice to have live TV occasionally.

I asked an aerial dude to come
Round as I thought he could just switch the lab thingy as mentioned above so it would work with my old non wideband freeway box.

The response I got was to buy a new box.

Are we saying it is relatively easy to switch a wideband dish to an older one? That is not the impression I got from the person.

You can turn it off from safari itself. In the nab bar, tap “aA”, it is one of the options there.

I have turned it off. Annoyed me that the search results are still shown with the first at the top of the screen. If the aim is you don’t have to reach up, it fails for that reason.

    1. I assume u have an iPad without a home button. I don’t think you can remove it. At least I can’t find a way on my phone. Edit: google remove Home bar. Apparently you can do it via accessibility functions but it is per app process and seems more faff than u need.

    2. Go into settings and look for Firefox. Although I don’t think that is likely. You may need to download Firefox focus which is a privacy based version which does what you want by default.

Bought a sentier vr 29 a couple of months ago. The virus website tells you expected delivery dates, and you can set up a notification on CRC.

Pretty sure it is 11 speed Deore, not 12 speed.

I am 5ft11 and on a large. Fit is fine for me and reach is similar to my old large bossnut.

I haven’t ridden a lot of bikes but I am really enjoying it. I prefer hard tails for the riding I do mostly though.

Niggles: grips are uncomfortable. Cables need shortening. And whilst the brakes are good enough. They are resin pads and rotors. I will probably upgrade the pads and rotors to get more bite.

Couple of nice touches. Bike came with tubeless valves, plastic pedals, pedal spanner and a multi tool.

Overall I am happy with my purchase.
