Most Sony Xperia phones have ant+, which I’ve got and used with this strap:

The strap works as well as any other, haven’t seen it spiking, or dropping any data. As above, the strava app doesn’t work with ant+ yet, but if you use an app like IpBike, it uploads the workout data, including heart rate data, straight to Strava, as well as any other training site you use. Works well for me.

I’ve met crazy horse lady before at Steyning. Spent about half an hour listening to her whinge on about the situation. I could sympathise with some of it, but she won’t be placated, she’s mostly making her own life a misery. If you come across her, its best to be courteous, and get away from her as soon as possible, nothing you say will persuade her we’re not all evil.

Apparently you only need one ride to do it, can’t say that many repeats appeal though….

You’ll be surprised how slow most of the fast looking Europeans are. That gear will be just fine. Try and find some fast groups to sit in and do some work for until you get to the uphill bits. Everybody tends to fly along at the start on adrenaline, then go backwards as soon as the road heads uphill. Just keep pedalling and you’ll get there. Beautiful mountains for a ride, enjoy.

OSMAnd is a good free option for offline mapping using Open Street map data, it can show GPX routes too. In places like Surrey Hills it actually shows you trails and gives you the names of them, in other areas OS maps would be better, depends on your needs, but its a good free offline backup.

Evans sell them, and usually have them in the shop, in 25mm size. They will price match anything you can find on the interweb.

Good point. It isn’t like you could break in and ride it though, I’ve often ridden past it (it is right next to a bridleway) and marveled at its construction, I was hoping someone might know who built it.

There is a snazzy looking outdoor pump track in Poynings, it looks well made, but is in someones (rather large) garden. More likely a local rider persuaded their parents to let them build it, but I’ve no idea how you get a go on it. Go drinking in the Royal Oak and be nice to the locals perhaps.

All being well this link will show it.

I still use paper OS maps because I just like having a collection of them, but for android I also use OsmAnd, which uses open source mapping, which a few years ago was terrible, but now is quite often better than OS maps. Downloading for offline use is easy (and free), and places like Surrey Hills not only have all the trails marked, but quite a lot are named too, so its great for exploring new trails. It is great for holidays too, where you can use it in flight mode and the battery lasts forever, I was amazed at the quality of mapping in Germany recently.

Another Z1 user here. I got it because its waterproof, but can’t fault it really, its snappy and hasn’t snapped after dropping it a few times, plus it is capable of taking some great pictures. It is big though, I’d get her to go into a phone shop and try both out in her hand, as the Z1 might be too big unless you’ve got big hands. The One has been out a while, so is probably due a refresh soon, making it better, or the old one cheaper.

15 years and still going strong. It got left in a drawer for a couple of years after getting a Fossil, which didn’t last so long at all. An hour on the windowsill get the eco-drive going again, it still looks great too.

I once snapped a pair of rigid forks with one finger. Well, one finger braking on a Magura rim brake that was so powerful it eventually snapped a fork leg.

The first generation (pale blue) Pompino’s had 135mm spacing, they crop up on Ebay quite a bit, worth picking one up cheap.

Pulling an all nighter fixing most of your bike after that 5 minute repair job you tried to do before bed sparks a cataclysmic chain of events.
