Is the solution an (old) phone, with radio apps installed, a speaker and a 3.5mm aux cable (or Bluetooth)?

The interface doesn’t get much easier than a phone and the selection of apps, maybe even some favourite albums on the phone storage.

I expect it will be rare that both fans will be active concurrently but no doubt it will happen occasionally.

I’m leaning towards a single exhaust for now and see how it goes, if it’s an issue then I’ll get a 2nd exhaust cored

You’ve allowed for backdraft shutters to select which fan is pushing to the outside (I missed that in my first reply, above) so I think you’re good. Crack on, and like you say, you’d consider going back and improving if you need to, so you’ll probably notice.

    I am not a plumber/sparkie :-)

    3) Never answer a call unless its from a known number, if it’s important, they will leave a voicemail

Round here, when they are calling people to invite them in for their Covid vaccine it may come from a withheld number. Your service may be different.

That Community stuff is awful (IMHO) but I like some of the Peregrine stuff. Good job I have a birthday coming up…

This is a slippery slope towards all our jobs being Offshored!

Although the MRs and I have been thinking of moving to the hills eventually. With more WFH I could probably swing being in the office a couple of days a week (1h30 commute, overnight then 1h30 return) and WFH the rest….

If the exhaust hoses join, the you might end up pushing air from one bathroom in to the other – none of my bathroom extractors have shutters (butterfly valves? non-return valves?) at the bathroom end, so this is very possible.

While we’re on the subject, how do you intend to control them? I had a humidistat one once, but the bathroom was cold and poorly insulated so we were never able to find a suitable humidity setting. It was often always on in winter and never on in summer, so I drilled out the faceplate and would end up perpetually adjusting it to suit the weather.

There was a similar thread a few weeks ago – someone on here mentioned a type where if it was only one a minute or two, the fan went off straight away after the light. If it was on for longer, it would stay on for a time after the light was off. They sound good.

Otherwise I’d be tempted to wire them in separately – like with a separate switch – the family bathroom almost never needs the extractor on. The ensuite needs it on for much longer after a shower.

    Got an Early Rider.

We love it, little one wants an Elsa and Ana bike for her next bike 🙄

No oily chain to get dirty with. Lighter than an Isla. Looks good. The big semi slick kendas are great all-rounders, or you can get the properly knobbly tyres (Belter vs. Seeker models). We bought a belter then added a QR seat clamp and change of tyres for the winter.

Wife is a Dr, I’m “Critical Worker” doing WFH. Two kids in nursery – if I had them at home I’d be starting work when Wife gets home from work at 6.

If we felt like we needed to keep them home, I’d probably have to try and negotiate to drop some hours.

Only one case been round our (small and well run) nursery back in August. It’s an affluent area so there’s a mix of Doctors (risky) and other WFH professionals (safer?) so we’re sticking with it. However a nearby nursery is completely shut down after ALL their staff tested +ve.

We accept there is some risk. If there’s a route for Covid in to our household, it’s through nursery and while I really don’t want Covid, I’m mostly doing what I’m told – either by the Gvt. or by the Wife.

Well played to everyone who’s making it work and doing their damndest to keep going. Gladly buy you all a pint when I can.

I would love to be a dog person. I like dogs.

However my local walking paths and verges are covered in dog shit. I do not like many dog owners. This is why I am no longer a dog person.

Just bin the pads, not worth it.

Rotors off and scrub with washing up liquid and hot water. Then some brake cleaner if you have any, IPA etc.

Glad you’re not mad at the wife, we all have to learn somehow. For some it is obvious, some need to be taught in an appropriate way.

Perhaps they’ve known this was coming for months but I doubt they’ve had the actual time between doing their normal job and also vaccinating people 24/7

Mere days before the vaccine rollout was actually started we were speculating whether the Army were going to do it, Hospitals? GP surgeries? G4S and Serco? Who the **** knows. It would have taken a great lot of foresight for a GP practice manager to start devoting their time to a generating a plan when the government doesn’t seem to have one.

Is that why the UK is ahead of nearly every other country in vaccines delivered?

Credit where it’s due – we do seem to have decided to purchase a few million doses of a vaccine from anyone who claims to have one. there might be a lot of wasted money in the end but I guess we can then “donate” leftover vaccine to countries not so predatory wealthy

I was interested in a Propain until I realised that I wasn’t sure I could even fit a 150mm dropper on a medium frame bike. And I was thinking of going up to a L. WTF. The super tall seat mast need cutting down.

Still keen to see any riders bikes though, lots of good things going on with Propain.

    Raw alloy frames, yum…..

here is a bike on Ebay they are selling, that I’m very tempted by. In theory they have it, as its a photo’d, its scratched, and so a bit cheaper than brand new. I messaged and checked, they said it is still available.

Anyone else had experience through their ebay side? I would be buying via credit card, so should be safe.

Problem with digging up a 8 month old thread to ask a new question is folk will start reading the thread without spotting the date and keep replying to the OP (well, 2 out of 5 is pretty good!)

If an item is for sale on ebay then they have it, crack on.

There’s only a dozen threads with similar issues. 🤣

The courier in the UK will normally collect duties on behalf of the govt.

There are standard codes for tariff rates that you can look up online, so knowing what is in the package you can look up what the duty rate should be. This is also helpful if you want to query of challenge the tariff rate applied to your package.

There will also be a handling fee charged by the courier for this service, which tends to be £8+. The courier will get in touch and says “you have a parcel with duty to be paid. pay us ££££££ and we will deliver your parcel”

Sainsburys is ok, mostly use the website rather than an app.

Substitutions can be a bit silly but generally ok and of course you get the difference back (as a voucher) so more often than not we are getting a free upgrade. We can always reject the substitution and you also get notified once they have done the pick, so you can plan around anything that was unavailable.

They are now nearly all 4 hour delivery slots now though. Problematic if you absolutely need a tighter window, but I imagine it helps them structure the delivery routes far more efficiently. Sometimes will call to deliver a few minutes early.

/edit – we also book the following weeks delivery slot about 5 days in advance, when we start building up the meal planner for the following week.

P.s. Mates’ rates is a horrible concept that should be sent to room 101. It means “I can carry on doing my job on full pay while you spend a week earning bugger all”.

MATES RATES MEANS YOU PAY YOUR MATES FULL PRICE COS THEY’RE YOUR MATES AND YOU WANT TO SUPPORT THEIR BISINESS. IF YOU EXPECT A DISCOUNT THEN YOU ARE EXPLOITING YOUR MATES.

I have bought stuff from mates. Sometimes they offer it for free, sometimes they insist on a discount but I want my mates’ business to survive and for them to do well. If I cant afford to pay my mates then I cant afford that thing.

Do folk buy neoprene lined and not bother with welly socks? Or do you have neoprene liners plus socks = hot feet in summer?

Aigle have a wider than normal foot so I’ve discounted them, or should I try a pair?

Glad to hear positive stuff about the Decathlons – I nearly bought some to try yesterday but they look really flimsy? (that said, so do Aigle… they’re all very light at <1 kg/boot)!

Very timely thread! I’ve given up with a couple of pairs Muckboots (Chore model)- they fit me very badly and I’m between sizes with long/slim feet.

I need some for general gardening and the off muddy walk. I have steel toe cap boots for proper stuff, shifting rocks, etc…

I was just starting to get our garden sorted out. Clearing the endless rockeries, thorny bushes and shite from the previous owners. Getting some nice space for running around, playing games, kicking balls etc. Then first lockdown is about to hit and SWMBO insists that we get a trampoline to annihilate the space we’ve created, so got a 10×12 ft oval. No incidents yet, Little miss (3) mostly wants to play duck duck goose running around it or for me to throw her up in the air as high as I can. What could go wrong?

Daffy’s got a lot more experience in this precise sector than I have (humble mech. eng.) but this looks a lot like the sort of stuff that you’ll get shown from Autodesk or Ansys, claiming that the software can iterate to a solution, if you define your inputs- (materials, boundary conditions, loading, available volume).

Looking at that spaghetti nightmare the designer has missed some really obvious loading information and has had no one with an engineering background check the solution.

Due to the fact that there is nearly no enclosed area in the cross-section, there is no torsional strength to the crank. Why do you think that lightweight cranks all have a hollow section through the crank arm? It’s not because they had spare tubes that needed using. For a similar second moment of area a tube is stiff compared with an open section (like an I-beam).

Got that but hadn’t spotted the Mac n Cheese, will check it out.

The last M&C I did was from the BBCGF magazine, recipe from that bloke off Masterchef. Had fish and truffle oil, properly lovely.

No. We had a family ride with the little ones on Christmas day, MacRide and Ergobaby a-go-go.

Since then it’s been minging weather and nowhere good to ride without a drive, so have chosen not to.

Take the kids to nursery on the bike & trailer though and done a couple of runs but that’s it!

Yeah MDF isn’t the best material but it’s cheap and strong enough now I’ve put down a 18mm layer. It’s not togght but it’s plenty strong and stiff. All in, it’s about a 5 metre length.

I’m only using it as a general dumping ground and worktop, charging bike lights. I could well just leave it raw.

About 7 years ago I did a similar worktop in my old house and was annoyed as I put a big stain on it after only weeks of use. Also I only used 12mm. It was fine but fancied stiffer this time.

If it’s really not your day and you’re leaking air that badly, then you can try inflating with a tube to seat the tyre, then remove one side only, remove the tube, insert valve and then you’re only sealing one side with the compressor.

Clean rim bed, new tyres, that have been allowed to form to shape (i.e. no creases from having been folded), sealant in place to fill gaps can all help too.

I’m in the “its either up or down” camp.

Typically yes but occasionally I run it just a little down. Maybe I meant like a pedally but fun bit of trail. Net uphill but techy. Proper flat swoopy stuff needs it more down than that.

What was the dropper that had two settings: a little-down and all-the-way-down? Was that the Fox DOSS or the early Specialized post?

Depends on the steepness of the terrain as to how much I’m moving my body around and therefore whether the seat gets in the way.

Fundulating stuff needing the occasional sit down? Drop a smidge, maybe 25-50mm.
Descending with steep bits? Use the lot, 150mm.
Descending where I’m scared and throw my weight all the way back, grazing my arse on the rear tyre? Double drop, get 170mm.

Of course you may just be too much of a roadie ;-)

Never had a problem using stainless socket head cap screws in place of the supplied ones, even on brake rotor adaptors. If you’re worried about strength, use a A2-70 or A4-70 (or -80).

If you are worried about loosening due to vibrations (racks, etc.) then use a Nord-Lock washer.

Nick, we are also NE and have two under 4. The youngest is a similar age to your little one.

The behaviour re toys is totally expected amongst children that age. They don’t have a great concept of sharing. We tried a lot with our eldest to try and trade toys, not just take them away. When we want her to give something up, we don’t ask her to share. Sharing does not equate to giving things away but maybe taking turns. Anyway, it’s not unexpected behaviour and can and will improve with training and growing up.

Interaction with other kids is a difficult one and not much you can do about that unless you have the will and the ability to start at a nursery. Our youngest had no concept of being away form her mum or dad that even when we could, leaving her briefly with a grandparent was heartbreaking.

Crafts… yeah we’re big in to our crafts. The Owl Tree Cafe (Gosforth/Kenton) have done craft boxes that they will deliver (wo got ours yesterday, no idea what is inside it but SWMBO liked the cafe and stuff there back BC). We also did a Toucan Box, which was good. Not cheap but they have nice actvities with equipment and materials supplied (paint, pencils). There’s plenty of gluing and sticking, lots of basis on proper artists and last year we even grew a heap of sunflowers, basil and nasturtiums! Also CBeebies Craft magazines and good, but even with our (nearly) 4 y/o I have to do most of the cutting out. She has scissors, she’ sjust a perfectionist so I have to do it!!!!

Immerse yourself in Hey Duggee but try not to watch it without your little one.

    Good luck!

The Narnia Track, where funnily enough, the a lot of the Narnia film/s were shot in Canterbury. (Flock Hill Station, I think)

It was mostly 4wd track on heavy cart and a road climb back. I was dragging my Magic Marys round ready for a day’s gnar on the following day so was not a happy bunny.

I had some Troy Lee Ace shorts that fit your brief. They were nicely fitted and the material was like I was being fondled by angels. I had to trim the velcro waist closure (no button!?) to stop it rubbing my belly and the taped seams fell open after the first wash. Worth a look if you are delicate with your kit. Or maybe not. I think Wiggle still owe me a refund.

Hope’s own advice at one point was that a really tiny bit if play is better than too much preload

That’s what I would have suggested if you were going to try the deep groove instead of angular contact bearings.
