That screwfix tiller is fine, but don’t expect it to magically sink down in to and turn over hard compacted ground.

MILLENIAL SNOWFLAKES ARE KILLING THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE INDUSTRY. WHY CANT WE HAVE VROOOM VROOMS?

look mate, I’m just trying to make sure I don’t have to swim to work in 30 years and that my children don’t have to fight the the Resource Wars of 2050-2061.

WAAH LITHIUM MINING IS NOT VERY NICE

What did you used to ride and what did you like or dislike about them?

I use Minion DHF and Minion DHR2 all year round. Some like faster tyres. Some like cheaper tyres. MY trails are normally a little muddy and a rather rooty.

Is it the weight you notice, or the rolling resistance? Minion SS on the rear for bonkers fast but still have the side knobs for cornering? Ride with one year-round and you’ll become a riding god!

12 week wait on what should have been 2

Sorry to hear – that is disappointing – but glad she got the all clear.

The 2-week referrals here are normally coming back in less than 2 weeks. If you don’t hear back in time, kick up a stink – the system is fallible to human error and referrals not getting processed.

If we can’t fix earth, we can’t upgrade Mars.

Humanity needs a backup, but that might mean planning for the future, tidying our room, fixing that broken window and fixing the leaks instead of trying to move house.

I’ve had similarly good service from CamelBak when I’ve worn out or broken parts of the bags and bottles I’ve had over the years.

Camelbak definitely do sell replacement valves as they inevitable break and drip!

p.s. if you do, can I have your bike?

I has air leaking past the valve on some old narrow Stans rims, where the bed was quite round. Doing the valve up tighter just tore the rubber off the valve. I successfully used blu-tac and silicone seal to get a seal.

On other wheels it has been leaking past the tape as others have suggested.

As lightweight and comfortable as you can afford.

I had (still have) some spank spike pedals, which use a large inboard bearing then a tiny bushing at the end of the short axle to get a really thin profile. The bush doesn’t last very long before wearing out and the big bearing has no secondary sealing so doesn’t last long before grinding to a halt.

Rebuild kits weren’t too expensive though..

Urgh, worst of both worlds. Like a semi erect penis, neither up enough to be useful, or down enough to be out of the way for riding.

Mine’s normally half way down when I stop and climb off.

Seems like it’s more like £1800 (assume parts only) so a bit better, but other prices fro mthe same retailer include fitting, so…

Your expectations are way off in my opinion based on my experience I’m afraid.

    Thanks :-)

Like I said, I need a bit of help getting a feel for what’s sensible. When researching online, the guidance is inevitably out of date and opaque pricing strategies don’t help.

2*4m is a fairly reasonable sized conservatory, isn’t it?

    Don’t see many smaller.

    Sounds like £4,000.

Feels like I’m being taken for a ride? I was hoping someone could come along and say “nah, that’s what Teckentrup cost, try XXXX for slightly cheaper spec but better value”

will be pissed off if i see a while load of old people clearing off on holiday because they have had the vaccine due to their (own) risk

But they will, won’t they. Jab and Go. the govt. will be desperate to get people going out again, getting money being spent. By May it will feel like we’re boing told “Go to Pret, go to Corsica, go go!”.

Meanwhile the younger generations, who don’t have the pension, don’t have stable jobs, can’t afford their own home, have grown up through austerity and cuts to their safety nets. Watching the boomers swanning around off on their holibobs, meanwhile waiting for their jab….

Grave of the Fireflies for depicting he brutal human impact of overseas war. The best film you’ll only watch once. I saw the animated version.

My Neighbour Totoro for a happy place of childhood safety and calm.

    Both Hiyao Miyazaki.

I, Daniel Blake definitely helped galvanise some aspects of my social conscience but definitely felt a little too blunt in that closing speech.

Many others have had impacts lasting days or even longer, have shocked and stunned but I’d be pushing it to say they have had a real long-term impact. I’d count Schindler’s List and Requiem for a Dream amongst them.

Must have been nearly a year since a R6M thread! About time!

I thought that half of the reason for enforced drivel and wittering was because there’s a limit on how much of the broadcast is allowed to be uninterrupted music?

With that in mind, Keavney is one of the better presenters. I really like Laverne and some of her regular guests, even if Professor Hannah Fry does laugh at her own jokes far too much. MAH has a beautiful voice but while I enjoy the heavier stuff she plays (who else would play Deftones or Tool on the radio) I can’t take the more indulgent electronic stuff she loves.

I believe i suggested it first.

You did indeed. I missed it because my reading, much like many things in my life, are approached half heartedly and occasional wilful neglect. I’ll try and do better in future.

How about a hanging sliding door type set up?

With the rail up at ceiling height there’s less demand to hide it and therefore can make have a much longer slide… and gives you a big panel to hide cable catenaries behind. like it.

We had a hinged bracket that worked well. The arm was maybe 600 or 700mm, so you have a good “home” position and then extended out for pain cave use.

Alternatively you could mount the tv on to a board and use a pair of long drawer runners, mounted on the wall (or a secondary board). Assuming you want the runner hidden from view when “home” then you’re limited by the size of the TV and you can only slide in one plane.

Pretty much as the cockwomble above suggested!

I don’t know? I’ve ridden with many lovely people, who I know to be on STW, but don’t know any of their forum names.

I alos have a circle of friends (who I’ve not seen in a year+) of whom I know all their names but they’re pretty quiet on STW.

I know right? Who’d want to be riding a bike with someone’s name one it? Someone like BOARDMAN??

The yobs and yoofs will be shouting “who does he think he is? he’s not Chris Boardman! Olympian, GOAT, Tour de France hero, cycling ambassador and advocate? He’s not Chris Boardman! Shame! SHAAME!”

They may have improved the headline figure “SHORTER SEAT TUBE!! YAY!!!” but without following through to seat tube insertion depth. Users might start reporting that they can not get a satisfactory dropper in. Perhaps the seat tube is an open section there and the seat post can go lower than it looks. Certainly with the shaping, the bottom of the seat post looks like it could end up half way along that lower, rearward sweep down to the BB.

We used to have a HP inkjet (I think). One set of “Compatible” cartridges were ok, the next set were poo and we binned the lot.

Now have a Canon and will be buying official cartridges.

Not 100% relevant to what you’re after but for a trouble free life and reducing waste I’m sticking to official parts now.

I found a local timber merchant who put their prices online (about 1/2 Wickes prices so I figured it was closer to what a tradie would want to be paying…) so cuts out the hassle and haggling.

Shout out to Quay Timber, Newcastle.

Double check then triple check the spec of the threads, inner and outer!

Also remember you’ve not got two threaded interfaces and I’d be very concerned that when you tighten and loosen the connection, or through ordinary use, are you going to end up with a loose M12 connection and the part failing or being unable to get the parts apart?

/edit – and the real issue I’d always try and understand is why has the previous owner (though it my case, normally the previous designer) done this? Is it because

    1. He lost a wing bolt or damaged one and wanted to replace them all with something he had to hand (having M12 eye bolts and the thread tapping kit..?)
    2. He couldn’t do wing bolts up tight enough by hand so replaced with eye bolts and a bar to tighten them?
    3. He’s a numpty and likes breaking stuff
    4.????

That photo reminds me I’ve got a lovely soft shell jacket that I used as a one-layer system many years ago as I have a similar photo. Waterproof, soft inside, fitted cut. No you can’t have it (ok maybe you cna but it’s a small or medium and black).

Made by Protective, and bought from EBC. I think they were a bit of a CX brand.

MTB Events running in May??? Maybe for Grand Vets and Super Vets only 🤣 I admire their optimism and with a hard lock down til then we might be safe enough, but aye, maybe.

Maybe they just need some cash in their bank accounts and plan on moving entries when they postpone..

I don’t reckon I’m going to get my first jab til end of the year then another while before the second and then another few weeks for full efficacy…

If I get an induction hob, what do I do with my wok?

Proper spherical wok like my mum had: might not work.

We’ve got an induction compatible wok, which has a small flat base to get the heat going. Slight problem that the heat is too concentrated on the base and doesn’t spread up the sides quickly as a proper wok over gas. As it is wearing out, it might get replaced with one with a bigger flat bottom, so slightly less wok-shaped byt still good for stir frying.

One of the two areas I miss the gas – the other is that the gas control is analogue. Often I want to fry something in between the 6 and a 7 and can’t get it just right on my digital controlled induction. Analogue control (ok, rotary dial input digital controlled) induction hobs do exist but at a massive premium to the one we bought at the time.

I don’t wan to be someone who says “you can’t be upset we have it worse” because that’s not true.

You’ve had plans pulled form underneath your feet, life was stable and has suddenly become unsettled again. It sucks.

Fingers crossed for you that this will do the trick and you can go back to living the good life for us.

DIY Kitchens were OK two years ago. The 3d builder on the website was finished just afterwards and would have made our lives much easier. Didn’t order enough filler pieces though as our joiner used it in more places than I thought!

The units are ok quality but the paint chipped really easily. Would maybe use them again but only with vinyl…
