Cheers. I’m hoping that with the frost on Saturday night, Sunday is going to leave the mud and bogs hard-frozen!

Hello folks, looks like this thread is being picked up by Google now, so I’ll copy in my reply that I sent to MadProductions above.

I’ll expand on our experience. We had a print-off showing the terms and conditions from when we booked the ticket and we were ready for an argument to get our bikes on the plane. We got to the airport in Kathmandu with plenty of time in case we had to escalate the problem or spend time discussing it. In the end, they just weighed the bags, and put the bikes onboard under the extra 10kg allowance.

In your position, I’d get in touch with your local Qatar Airway customer service people and explain the situation. I would ask them to write a letter (an email would be sufficient) stating that you are entitled to the extra 10 kg and that you will be cancelling the booking if they wont do this for you.

Air NZ, Virgin, both had a decent bike allowance (Air NZ paid for, Virgin was free sporting equipment).

Emirates have 30kg which most people fly with perfectly well.

Singapore I haven’t flown with but often codeshare with Air NZ.

The complaints seem like typical Generation Y ‘I’m too special for this’ rubbish, perfectly exemplified by that idiotic holier than thou claptrap from ‘Dr Rant’ above.

Proof that some people can read and yet not understand.

Smooth is probaby (undoubtedly) better, but the On One bars will just be a bit overbuilt to compensate.

I didn’t notice the inside profile being anywhere near as wild on the Knuckleball bars I put on the Mrs’bike. Of course I’ll have to go check now.

I think we need you to cut through them at say, 20 mm intervals to see if this defect runs through!

That’s assuming you’ve shone a torch in the ends and had a look for this seam running up inside the bar rather than just assuming it does because it’s there at both ends.

I honestly thought that this was going to turn in to some well-know film reference.

This calls for a major, and I mean major, leaflet campaign.

Do you have a good acronym? May I suggest

Campaign for Liberating ISIS, Terrifying Obama and Regression of Iraq and Syria.

Aside from the whole nonsense vs. efficiency of Homeopathy woo (which has been more than adequately explained above), surely they are looking for cost savings in the wrong places?

If you want to save significant amounts of money, just piss off your workforce to the point that noone wants to become a doctor any more and your existing workforce piss off to the colonies.

    Wage bill slashed, job done!

(sorry for the thread derailment 🙁 )

It’s just us Brits with our mongrel language that can’t make our minds up.

And it’s a beautiful place to be! We can have snobbery, reverse-snobbery, being a smug righteous know-it-all when correct and, being a smug righteous know-it-all when incorrect.

I love it and I learn something every day. Moët indeed.

p.s. I’ve had to stop watching the Pronunciation Manuals at my desk as I couldn’t remain composed enough to maintain my thin veil of professionalism.

I learned with a few sessions in the Manchester snowdome (xscape?) then went to the Alps with family (all proficient skiers) with the intent ot get a couple of private lessons as and when.

It probably would have been better all round to spend the week mornings in a ski school!

Yeah I can’t do that from work sorry, but have your tried DraftSight? It is a full-blown AutoCAD clone/competitor but should be able to handy most 2D CAD formats and functions.

Few years back I had a day there with the in-laws. We rode a mix of trails, no one on more than a AM/Enduro bike, some on hardtails. It’s probably changed a fair bit since then.

In addition to the OP’s quandry, am I right in thinking (well, it seems obvious but you never know) that if your gore-tex is wet on the outside surface, no amount of breathability will let you sweat out?

    Kahurangi
    Full Member

mikew – I think the OP’s point is that the chainline of the big ring on a double is further out, so may not clash with whatever it is that limits the size of a 1x chainring.

bolt7 – guess you might have to borrow/steal one (chain ring/chainset) and give it a try.

I’m just bumping this thread again, in case anyone has a 14″ Ti 456 in thei loft and needs some end-of-year cash!

I’ve heard from a fellow STWer that they do exist but he (or rather, his wife) is not willing to part with it 🙁

Be living in NZ. The skiing will cost you a day’s pass (which isn’t cheap compared to Europe) and petrol to get there. You’ll be able to borrow kit off your mates. Easy!

Alpkit have been inspired by PHD and are about to launch down quilts and half length bags

The OH has a merino jumper and says it’s lovely and soft. This is compared to the howies and alpkit merino, which she found rather scratchy.

a couple of years ago everyone was buying “Solarstom X2” lights. They’re cheap and effective, all 4 of ours still work but I’m not sure the batteries are lasting as long as they used.

Not sure what’s newer and better, but I hope someone will come and enlighten us!

If we’re in the first world, doesn’t that mean all our problems are first world problems?

Not in the spirit of the meme. Being homeless or having measles whilst in the first world is not considered a FWP.

Black tea = tea without milk.
White tea = poncy tea, like green tea but not.
Builder’s tea = black tea with milk.

    Simples

8 days isn’t much, I wouldn’t waste time driving up to the far North. Have some days flexible and do the Toronto Alpine crossing on a good day. Day shuttling in Rotorua. Make sure you do the trails known as ‘the natives’. They start with a short climb up from the shuttle drop off. Especially Kutore. Especially if it’s wet 😈 Don’t be swayed by the Rotorua gondola.

Lots of good thermal stuff around Rotovegas. You can camp at Waikite Valley hot springs for only a couple fo dollars more than day entry to the pools. You get access for both days and exclusive early access on the morning you wake up.

    Coromandel is kinda pretty.

We’re talking the big hex on the top, right? To put the tokens in. Its really shallow, I doubt you’d get it off with a standard socket. If you’re careful and have a good spanner I see no problem with this.

Sure, a cone spanner would be better though.

    Just use an adjustable spanner.

Dunno what’s up with you lot. I just idly look at bikes on the internet or talk to mates about racing and she then tells me I should go buy a bike.

Isn’t that what’s supposed to happen?

Now, what was your point again?.

That the Sunday is more relaxed and less competitive. I totally understand wanting to ride the route a second time, it ought to be worth it 🙂

If the Sport Enduro was Sat and the Race Enduro, Saturday would be full of folk using it as a practice day and fewer people (total) would get to ride one day or the other!

    Kahurangi
    Full Member

so the proper racing is saturday as that’s the only day when there is control over when people enter stages, but then you can just ride it as a loop on sunday. Is that right?

It’s been explained to me by folks more literate than I, than the stages on sunday are still timed, but with a more relaxed approach to the 15 second gap between riders.

why not make the saturday bimble \ practice day and sunday proper race conditions?

Presumably because there was so much demand they thought it better to have twice as many racers spread over 2 days.

I think people racing on both days may have missed the point.
