We can ride up the Fremington Edge byway as many times as we like though 😆

As much as I can fit in the frame.

I have a 150 mm drop post and sometimes for long runs of steeeep* stuff (some Lakes, Golfie) I’ll drop the extra 20 mm with the quick release too.

*when you grate your bum on the tyre steep.

/edit -this is on an Enduro-Sled (Gnarpoon). The HT singlespeed just has the seatpost down manually all the time.

Why does this news story get so much coverage?

I’ve been following this story for a couple of weeks now. Numerous articles in the media about it.

You’re aware of it, you’re looking for it, you’re finding it.

Why is it in the news? It’s unusual, they’re probably getting in touch with the media who agree that it’s unusual and newsworthy. They’ll be advertising it as far and wide as possible in the hope that someone in power will ‘step-in’ and sort them out.

I’m going Advantage (Tough, Grip) front, Trail Boss (Tough Fast) rear. I have some very worn MM SuperGravity as backups.

The Mrs. will have MM (Trailstar Snakeskin) front, Trail Boss (Tough Fast) rear

The HD is a bit of a mincey tyre really, lean it over and you’ll tear the shoulders off. The front has much less of an effect on rolling speed and it an enduro, just get off the brakes a bit more to make up for it.

Topeak do saddle bags that clip on to the saddle rails but you won’t get the pump in there.

10 speed, so cheap (replaced the entire drivetrain this year for less than £70, brand new).

1 chain, run it til the whole lot is shagged, replace. Approx 1 year at current rates.

I’ve not had any similar issues with mine, sorry.

Give it a really good close look from behind and see if there’s any bend of out-of-straightness of the sprockets concerned.

check for any burrs or damage.

check the chain and jockey wheel for any still links or crud.

see if moving the chain really slowly (a workstand will help) you can replicate the *chk* or noises…

alternatively make sure it’s well lubed and go ride it in.

I’ve always flown with my bike. Much much cheaper like that (so long as you’re already taking a trip, natch).

IIRC from others experiences it can cost about £250 (was $500, now probably more like $450) to ship a bike.

I think you need to re-stack EVERYTHING in the cupboards upside down to prevent the sudden and unwanted ingress of arachnids.

    You#ll either

    1. end up a quivering wreck on the floor, victim to the latest chock-hold-pinch-uppercut then be made to put them all back the way they were before
    or

    2. make her realis that unless applied to everything in life, her reasoning falls down and you will, unexpectedly win

euain – must have popped out for dinner at that point – glad you had a good weekend.

Nice to chat to NW while I was having a fab time smashing out some trails on Saturday morning. The damp greasy Sunday riding brought me back down to earth a little bit 😳

The email went out last night and I snuck a peek this morning – it’s Old School, Repeat Offender and Flat White.

euain – If I spot you I will do – look out for My blue Mach 6 and Ella on her XS Mach 5.7 in Black n Blue 8)

You’ll also spot our STW Standard Issue Red Camper 😆

I understand your sentiments but you still have backup from and are giving your support to the shop.

Perhaps the knew you;d want it quick, so it’s cheaper for them to order from CRC than to pay the distributor’s price and pay for next day postage. Perhaps the disty were out of stock. Who knows. Ask them.

And as for your second point – yeah probably lots of people who want something for nothing!

Stealing a quick peek at the Mrs’ emails, route should be out this evening, with 3 stages. IIRC, there’s at least one stage from the top.

I’m still at the stage of exploring the Golfie trails, there’s only a handful I’ve ridden several times and still a handful I haven’t ridden at all so I can’t really give you much advice.

Amazingly no comment on you being wrong

Stop it. This could have been an interesting discussion, but it’s going to turn in to 50% discussion and 50% big hitter point scoring, I’m going to bugger off back to work.

Insure it as a converted camper van

Most policies will require the V5C to be re-registered as a “MOTOR CARAVAN”, some don’t.

I put details in to an insurance search engine and was called by one of the brokers who guessed and asked “is this a camper? we can insure it as such, we don’t mind if it doesn’t say so on the V5C”

but anyway, when you say “day van” does it have anything that marks it out as a camper or it is actually a panel van with a couple of seats and windows?? so it could be a nearly a caravelle (and therefore try and get it registered as a “CAR”)??

If you’re not riding with Mike at MTB Kerala, you should.

Obviously it’s all about the two-week long tours, but I’m sure he’d take you out for a day or two if that’s all you want and the hire bikes aren’t too shabby either (Nukeproof Megas)!

even when the product is good enough that there is not a clear choice ?

That was kind of my tongue-in-cheek and very lazily point. The two products are similar with a few differences, close price point and both highly regarded.

Buy the one that’s local or the one that’s not?

siwhite- the Aldi clothes I’ve bought in the past are loose around the body, a bit short, tight arms and too short on the sleeves. I don’t bother any more as I’m obviously a bit on the lanky side for them!

Me and the Mrs doing Saturday (assuming she’s not rota’d to work the weekend…). Probably pitching up late on Friday and shooting off on Saturday after we ride.

p.s. have we been given an opportunity to choose our preferred start time /early/middle/late this year? I don’t remember receiving anything!

Sony Experia Z1C. I tried to get my fingernail underneath the screen protector (to peel it off and change it). Little bit of downward pressure. Crack.

    Get that…

Cracked the screen while attempting to change the screen protector.

    Make you feel any better?
