I have also done a DIY inflator.

Powder fire extinguisher: free from tip
Emptying it in to the wheelie bin: priceless
    Valves: free (leftover)
Hose and track pump head: free (cheers ir_bandito)
    Primer & Paint: £9.

This might seem a bit pedantic – but I have an issue with these inflators out there that look like a fire extinguisher but aren’t… 😕

At the very least, wrap it in tape or something.

Original M780 mech and steal the clutch off the XC bike’s M780??

Or figure out why the spare M780 isn’t working as intended. Figure out the limit stops etc. and check the cage for damage/length. Did the original M780 have a RAD cage, goat link or similar?

My old lockring tool was probably about £3 so you get what you pay for I guess.

MY cassette lockring tools that didn’t fit:

    PArk tools cassette lcokring tool
    BBB one
    CRC cheapo toolkit one

The one that did fit a was (IIRC) Icetoolz. I checked this morning but it doesn’t have the mfr printed on it.

I had to buy a new tool from my LBS (my 4th [yes, fourth] such lockring tool) to get the centre lock rotors off my commuter.

Not a bicycle engineer, but I’d consider it as…

depends on the material grades available to you and how hard they are. stainless steel could be anything from 304 to Duplex steels or even something cut from 17-4 P/H bar.
compare this to what you know about existing sprockets and how long they last
how much does the hardening process add to the cost?
is this a worthwhile upgrade to the customer?

No way will you fit 3 + 2 bikes in a Yaris.

ok, tiim says you can, but I used to think it a PITA putting one bike and one person in my Yaris 😆

Honda Jazz would fit the bill easily, £5k would buy a nice one. RHS seat down, 2 bikes in upside-down with wheels off and you could seat 4!

Also maybe an older Impreza station wagon/estate?

The orange Mach 6 has been one of the few bikes to turn my head since I got my own new bike (“new” lol, now 3 years old).

    Enjoy, looks lovely.

camping roll mats? I bought a cheap one from decathlon to use a bike bag padding.

If you need more, some carpet cut off? I wouldn’t use underlay as it’ll tear.

I’ve even seen people driving around in empty campers and vans with a bike on a towball rack FFS – if that isn’t a fashion statement, what is?

erm, because a dirty bike on top of the bed isn’t ideal?

If you look at the ‘ride’ that all those fast riders achieved their quick times on – are they full ride or have they been cropped? Did they use an alternate entrance? Are they definitely riding the same segment as you? Did they hit START 20m in to the trail?

    Re the NZ names –

IIRC you may not register a name in NZ that confers any kind of rank – therefore no Judge, Justice, Prince, etc.

I also think there’s something about it not being offensive but aside from that it’s fair game, hence the legendary Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii.

Some tyres have thin sidewalls and will weep a bit of air and sealant.

My WTB (standard carcass) do this as does the Mrs’ Schwalbe (snakskin carcass).

    Calderdale “death rock”.

My comment was tongue in cheek as I’ve never ridden in Calderdale.

What I tied to say was that the only Fast Rolling Trail Boss I’ve used was not in this country so conditions aren’t exactly comparable to your use.

The regular carcass is nicely supple though.

Stans tape seems to be very thin for its strength and low friction, which would help the tyre seat. With a Stans rim I’ve never had to pack to the rim at all with a thicker tape or multiple layers of tape so I wouldn’t want to use a thicker rim strip.

I’m currently using WTB tape as it’s cheaper and seems to be very similar in function – yellow, thin, and slick.

I’d expect that CRC might refund you the next day delivery if you were polite.

My recent experience was quite positive – I wanted some new tyres urgently so paid the £3 for priority dispatch on a Sunday night. They tyres overtook my Friday night order, were processed and out on Monday morning.

I was a happy chappie even though I never did fit the tyres!

I like them but I normally use the dual compound, paper thin sidewall version (they weep a bit of sealant).

I might have used the Tough Fast rear Trail Boss and I didn’t die, but that was in India so can’t compare it to Calderdale death rock.

    Actually yes!

I worked on some design work for the Pioneering Spirit in my first proper job after graduation – this would have been 2008-2009. It was called the Pieter Schelte back then.

We redesigned the support bogies for the topside lift system.

I did mine in the Hammerite straight on to metal stuff, with a metallic ‘hammered’ finish. Took 2 coats (green on to white) but looks good although it’s tricky to apply it just right so that it’s thick enough to congeal in to the hammered look without running.

I could take a photo when I get home if you’re really interested.

//edit – it’s actually at the bottom of my garden next to the wheelie bins and bike shed, hence the decision for this style of paint. Might not be what you’re after for a normal garage door, but I figured I wouldn’t be able to achieve a finish with normal satin or gloss that I’d be happy with unless I used a spray gun.

Oh aye it was hard. Long days out and tough stages – and that’s from someone who didn’t do practice on Friday.

Not that I wanted to mind, the van broke down on the A590 on Friday morning (the red camper stopped near Lindale if you saw us 👿 )10 hours to get back to Newcastle and we head out in the car on Saturday morning for attempt no. 2.

Having dropped down to non-champs so that I could ride with my mate/s and ill and injured I was taking it pretty steady on race day with plenty of cautious line choice…

That “carnage corner” on Stage 9 didn’t cause me any problems last year but the roots have polished up nicely, I binned it on top of someone in practice and played it safe after that!

Could have done with a bit of practice on Stage 5 so that that right hand corner wouldn’t spook me…

And Stage 7 I’d heard about and was thinking “this isn’t so bad” until you get in to the middle of it and think WTF???

    Golden S / Super Steep…

    Champs only…

Non-champs riders can ride the full 10 stages but only the times for the 7 or 8-stage course will count towards their total.

orena45 – I nearly broke my hand 2 weeks ago. It’s bloomin sore, I’m full of man-flu and coughing up my lungs every 10 minutes at the moment.

    See you there!

p.s. did a quick strava search for the super steep. -29% average gradient. Nice. 😆

Minion DFH/DHR2 here. Got some new Magic Mary’s for a plan B.

The Golden S/ Super Steep must be on the Grizedale forest heading down to Consiton water? I won’t have done it if it wasn’t at last year’s Grizedale PMBA enduro, looking forward to it.

As loath as I am to join the party, a pay rise isn’t even taking a sticking plaster to a gushing wound.

It’ll take several parliamentary terms to undo the damage that Jeremy Hunt has done to the NHS workforce. I’d suppose looking at training numbers (unclusing UCAS applications) would give some foresight..

For those to frothy to read the article, the 20 mm BOOST standard differs from the old 20×110 axles in that they’ve moved the brake mounts outboard by 5 mm so that they can increase the hub flange spacing.

    ….
Not sure how these differ from:
    …..

My campervan was built from a common LWB panel van, so because the V5C defined it as a Light Good Vehicle and Panel Van, it was subject to 50/60/70 mph speed limits.

With a bit of paperwork to the DVLA showing how it is converted to a camper van, it is defined as a MOTOR CARAVAN on the V5C and is now subject to 60/70/70 speed limits.

    HTH.

Before that we had an old Sharan as a bike wagon. Seats come out, loads of space. Seats go back in, 7 person ppl carrier.

Just pull them apart and clean the excess grease away from the transfer port then pump them up again..

    /edit – too late!

/edit the 2nd – I figured pushing anything past seals to be a faintly stupid idea so I opened up the air can on my wife’s Pikes instead. They had loads of grease blocking the wee transfer port.

I was bemused this year when there was no Kidland Enduro on the NDH calendar – this is why!

FYI, the Kidland forest stages are nothing like Ard Rock. They’re steep, steep and pretty hard!
