you don’t get the reference of what he’s taking the piss out of then

At least there is some purpose to it then!

Are you willing to educate me or shall I continue to listen and suffer, knowing that my ears are not worthy to experience the aural circlejerk that is 6Music?

    /edit – sorry, i forgot this ;-)

    is Marc Riley OK?

Good God, would they take his microphone away from his bloody evening interviews. It’s pretty much the only thing that makes me switch the radio off. I’ll be enjoying my dinner and then next minute

WHAT WAS THE FIRST GIG YOU EVER WENT TOOo

    GTFO.

I used to normally schedule my riding similarly, the guys I ride with all met at the corner next to NatWest at 8.

I’d eat a small dinner as soon as I got in from work, certainly wouldn’t wait to eat at a grown-up time. Then pudding, a bowl of cereal or something decent when I got home.

Agreed. My ancient Lev has a significant amount of play now. The only time I notice it is when I hold the saddle and wobble it…

I don’t think they bothered having photos for the Marathon

The photographers are there for themselves. If you’re hoping to make a couple of quid, where do you shoot? On the Enduro course taking 1000+ riders per day on exciting terrain or on the Marathon, with what?

IF they clamp on to the tyres, then your tyre deflates, are you in trouble?

I’d be interested in the Scorpion rack (i.e. a North Shore style rack) if I needed a bike rack.

If the heli tape is scruffy, the sure pull that off – doesn’t cost you anything.

Maybe take tatty stickers off, replacement decals are £10 ish, so not free.

Definitely wouldn’t put new tyres on – decent tyres are £at least £30 a pop new! Though you might grab a bargain 26″ tyre for not much, which could help.

MM front and rear is a noticeable amount of drag, I usually run DHF & DHR as a slightly faster pair for all-season use. I break out the MM pair for when I’m racing on something steep and nasty.

I think grape scissors are the ones with short and stocky blades for doing a short, powerful cut through a grape stalk.

They live next to the herb shears in the 3rd drawer from the sink.

Magic Marys with the Gravity casing would solve that, but they are a pig to get on!

No reason to not mix brands except that folk will point and laugh at you.

Sunrace for me on my Pro2 hubs as the larger cogs are on carriers so won’t damage the Aluminium freehub.

    Also, weight and blackness FTW.

Got stuck behind someone using apple pay in the supermarket yesterday

I use android pay on my phone as much as I use my cards, it’s much quicker for me. Phone is always in my pocket, wallet is often in my bag. You don’t need to open an app, just phone out, unlock with fingerprint and bosh it on to the terminal. Job jobbed.

(Last year) the demo bike loop was not the race stages. You’re supposed to have a race number on your bike before you practice (I suppose to stop people who haven’t paid to race just turning up and riding).

I’ve also used a Trail Boss/Vigilant combo with some (decided average) success. No punctures, Tough/Grippy on the front and Tough/Fast on the rear FTW.

Have a used set going spare if anyone wants ;-) collection from Newcastle

3rd post down. She’s 16 months. I’m sticking with the plastic stuff thanks.

I wouldn’t go near the green bosch stuff, that’s for B&Q and the likes

I’m holding our for some DeWalt..

I’ve also had some customer service emails to Alpkit disappear in to the ether, but I got hold of them quickly on the phone and sorted it all out. They’re always sorted me out in the end, every time.

Depends how much HAB you expect

FWIW, on our trip we did several side trips, which might have had up to 4 hrs pushing/riding. you;re getting higher and pushing your limits so gradients you’d normally spin up have you pushing.

The day getting over the pass began with breakfast at 4 am and had 6-7 hours pushing/carrying to the pass.

You probably won’t have the luxury of taking separate shoes over the pass as your sherpa/transport might not come over the pass with you. We spent ~ a week warming up riding from Pokhara, working our way up the Lower Mustang with plenty of side trips to get high and some cracking riding coming down. After the pass we smashed out some epic 80 km days getting back to our rendezvous at Besi Sahar.

    I always ride spd

    Then ride with SPD.

acclimitisation hikes planned and hike a bike

The  get some SPDs with a decent sole that you can hike in.

Shimano MT91 or whatever is the latest? There might be snow higher up. You might be fine in anything (we had 5:10 freeriders).

It’s at times like this… that I really wish I’d listened to what my mother told me when I was little.

Wickes “Trade” acrylic white was awful and required five coats to successfully turn white in to a slightly different shade of white.

I was also slightly surprised when I saw they had opted for a pushfit BB

Pivot/Chris Cocalis developed PF92 with Shimano. They would be among the last to drop it.

FWIW my Pivot’s pressfit BB has been fine. No problems, no creaking. HT2 was easier to change though.

I have used GffGaff (use O2 network) and currently on Plusnet (use EE network),  no problems with either.

If you want a deal with a mainstream dealer then walk past your local Virgin or 3 shops, they always seem to have some pretty sharp deals on a board outside when I walk past.

Thanks everyone for the experiences and anecdotes, all v helpful.

Get solid wood.  You know you want to.

Actually, it’s a definite no for wood. We’re much more likely to save some pennies and get a cheaper vinyl than “upgrade” to any kind of wood. We had wood floors in our last house.

+1 for the £6 weldtite kit, no idea why you’d want to spend 7 x as much on a shiny* dynaplug one…

-1 for the panaracer kits, I’ve had them fail on me when the rubber strips weren’t bulky enough.

    * well actually, there is the shiny to consider

    Thanks for that folks.

Worth adding that our floor is suspended on joists. It’s very bouncy at the moment so will be getting some work to stiffen it up a touch while we have the kitchen out and having walls taken down & put up. So there is a bit of give there but that fact that it is slightly soft to touch is a plus in my view. Nicer to be on barefoot.

By “engineered” wood floor or laminates, (AIUI) they are a 3 mm think wood layer on top of MDF or similar backing material. So cheaper and easier to install than solid wood.

Night don’t apply to cyclists, it’s up to the individual to judge what is the safe thing to do. Sometimes that means ignoring the lights and setting off. Look after no.1, sheeple.

If it’s mostly in the smallest sprocket, is the chain too slack at that point? Maybe remove some links.

Is i that the daily rate has to be multiplied up and communicated as an equivalent APR? the fact that the ultimate value is capped doesn’t change that calculation?

(IANA Loan Shark, this is just a guess)

Do SRAM cranks all use the wavey washers that fit on the axle between the BB and the chainset? They take up maybe 1.5 or 2 mm, could be missing one of those?

opened from inside by a burglar to secure their escape route

Would be the least of my worries. Have you even stayed at someone else’s house and been locked in with no idea how you’d escape in the event of a fire?

Anyway, I need to edjumacate myself about these things for some new doors.

Is anyone having trouble getting spares for five year old bikes, let alone one year?

Kind of. 2013/14 bike here. If I want brand new forks, I’d quite likely need a new front wheel/hub as well. Thanks, Boost. You could probably buy a non-Boost bike 12 months ago. Who knows what the next pointless anti-consumer “improvement” will be?
