If you have a booking with Budget and you’re queueing with the kids at the Avis/Budget desk at a Spanish airport and they keep on sorting out the Avis customers first and keep pushing you to the back of the queue, you’ll wish you’d have used Avis and will use neither of them ever again.

Have done this with Google Photos. You’ll think you’ve set the permissions correct but you’ll still need to tweak them before all and sundry can add their photos. It does work well but I wish there was some automatic AI that told the sister in law “You have added fifty photos, all of your dogs and they are nearly identical. Three have been saved. “

Do any heli tape before you start with test loops of hose or cable (invisiframe may be overkill but it’s always worth protecting any rub points).

Your brake hoses are probably too short, have replacements ready.

    Clean everything on the way.

I just read the OP’s most recent message… My youngest also just turned four and is not tall for her age but she’s on our 16″ Early Rider now, the 14″ is too small for when she’s going fast – the 16″ is much more stable. Seriously consider a bigger bike before you invest in tyres for the next two rides! But good work getting them riding do far – we haven’t ridden more than 5 or 6km in a singe “ride”.

The French one is it’s own document Manual_FR with it’s own document revision. Sure it started life as a translation of Manual-EN rev A03 but it now has its own life and will have revisions separate to the master. If the EN is revised the FR should follow and this could be mentioned in the version history “doc updated with changes to specific blah blah, synchronised with doc_EN rev A07”

OK, much bigger job to fit a replacement pump than I thought, maybe a better strategy is for a secondary system for while you await a repair?

You can get a chemical camping toilet for £50-£100. Or a bucket toilet for less.

Showers? Anything at work, local Leisure centre or do you need something at home?

We did this recently but based on a reasonable guess of the materials you can expect the steel chain rings to last at least twice as long as alu.

And twice the weight is equivalent to how many Snickers bars?

Steel vs. aluminium direct mount chainrings, wear rate

Could you cut a new grommet from a sheet of rubber? If you know the thickness you need I reckon someone may be able to scavenge you an off cut?

If the sewage pump is now known to be that critical you should make sure you have a spare for the future! Good luck!

Don’t have an exact comparison but pretty sure that’s not right – it won’t be able to index with that much wobble!?

Thanks all. We’re staying with family, friends and mooching around when we get there – no hotels to bother about – it’s just the flights.

Trailfinders etc. haven’t been able to match the Emirates price but booking.com has the cheaper price.

Emirates seem keen to steer you away from credit cards (they keep on mentioning Emirates Pay!) and booking.com also claim to have a protection deal with Visa.. But yes Travel Insurance will be bought immediately after the flights.

Has anyone using either Emirates or booking.com been able to split payment between cards or is it really only over the phone they’ve facilitated that? We’ve tried several agents on the phone and they’ve all been more than direct!

    Cheers

even mild steel has a hardness and strength which significantly (>15% at minimum) exceeds 7075-t6 and 2014-t6. Carbon steel even more so and stainless more than even that.

Yeah thanks for correcting me on that, the yield is much more what I’m thinking of. Anything better than S235 is going to be harder than alu 7075 T6!

Depends entirely on the grade of materials that they’re using and if they’re not telling it’s difficult to make an informed choice!

Machined alu parts are often 7075 but could even be 2014 – which are harder and stronger than many grades of steel.

We find that we get great results with Lavazza especially the gold or espresso varieties (Lavazza is a finer grind than cafetiere grind) and water straight out the kettle. Paper filters can be reused with care – the stainless filter we were gifted let a lot of yuk through so have stuck with paper.

Packaging is a big issue when everyone wants space in the frame for a bottle mount and/or storage locker.

I’ve seen some adverts and looked like cheap shit I don’t need. I opened this thread to check and it does indeed look like cheap shit I don’t need. 🙄

    Climate crisis? What climate crisis?

We had a 1994 Delica, bought off my BiL who’d done a simple camper bed frame inside. But not space for much else. Bikes on a rack on the tow bar. For a half-width bed there would be plenty of space for the bike inside. Moderately popular in NZ as they are seriously capable off road, which is great for shuttling dodgy roads for epic mtb shenanigans and ski fields.

4 gears, and thirsty, no idea what newer ones are like.

Man HX60? 😂 Not going to be better on the country lanes than a coach built motor home. They’re thirsty. There are only two real seats – the middle seat is not sprung. There isn’t a way to access any camping space at the back from the cab.

There are load of them available (in various shades of green or tan) in mileage to suit any budget and then you can take it on safari afterwards.

Valve core removal tool. Saved some guys ride in Bellingham, whose shock was losing pressure.

Toilet paper and hand sanitizer, also used that but only on myself.

The thread has gone off on to a massive tangent where folk are listing their annoyances.

There have been plenty of helpful answers but they are a bit lost amongst the noise!

The only old standard to avoid would be straight steerer tube – and they’ve been long gone. The op will be able to get non-boost hubs and 31.8 handlebars for a long time to come, even if just 2nd hand kit.

Superboost was a 2 fingers up at the pointless exercise that was boost spacing but it never took hold so became the exact thing it sought to destroy. Therefore spares are limited and should be avoided – but you’ll have a hard time stumbling in to that one.

Press fit BBs can be fine (we’ve had 2 for 8 years plus) but check reviews as some manufacturers seem to get them wrong.

Buy a good bike that you like the look of and go have fun. Check reviews for obvious shortcomings and crack on.

When we ever used the drier everything was massively creased. So we actually just used (and still use in the winter) a clothes airer and dehumidifier.

Looks like one half of the actuator lever arm has snapped off – at least KS are good with spares (IME).

Perhaps when moving the bike around, turning it upside down, the remote lever was caught and put a large load through the remote lever and pulled the cable, snapping the actuator lever.

We had two and knew they would be small for age (though the eldest was bang on average by 3) and they got a lot of use out of their 14″ wheel bike. Youngest is still on it.

The eldest used it without pedals first but the youngest not so much – she was older by the time it would fit her so was starting to pedal.

There’s heaps in Chopwell, explore, find some Strava segments of heat maps where to look. It’s not big but there’s probably 1000m of descending packed in to a 20km loop of you try.

It’s covered in dog shit though.

A few years back there was a (German?) company who had something very useful – it was basically an extendable handle that went down the back of your bag and a receptacle that went on the bike so that you could lift in to position and the bag took the weight.

I’ll see if I can find it.

Found it. Called the Peak Rider https://bikerumor.com/peakrider-hangs-mountain-bike-hydration-pack-can-hike-bike-hands-free/

Ah but the value is knowing (or guessing) that the thing is called a “locking collar” and not a “jammy widget” or a “round nut axial grubber”

I got some Maxxis Maxx Daddy (2.0?) in a Beinn 20S. You’ll have to remove the mudguards of course. Used once before we then got her a proper MTB!

I think it’s basically as you said – but with big clamps or straps to hold it all in place while it cures. Then you’ll spend the rest of your time with the van critical of how in-line you got the new window.

The manitou forks on our little one’s Orbea are great and proper volume Rocket Ron’s. We did consider the +size Vitus as brilliant VFM but a good Orbea came up 2nd hand! The dropper is pointless as she’s too light to put it down.

We previously bought a Nukeproof Cub Scout 20 but it was damaged out of the box – but having had it in hand we found the Box shifters were too bug for small hands.

We camped (van in the car park) last June and the midges weren’t really an issue. They seemed to be absent from anywhere last year anyway. Probably a bit cold for them so far this year.

Yeah Kielder was fun for a couple of short days with the kids – the Mrs and I could tag-team and we saw ospreys nesting. The Deadwater red trail is good fun. Stay off the race-only trails. They’re obvious but you wouldn’t want to jeopardise future events now would you.

I’ve used a Steri-Pen that was USB chargeable for 3 months in Nepal and stayed well. Mostly drinking from tap water though, the steri pen does nothing for suspended particles.
