Well that’s two jokes for the price of pun.

Pure wool is a terrible idea for a jersey. It sags, stretches, gets soaked and will hole up very quickly. The Mrs bought an Alpkit jersey, which is a great example of this. It also shrank.

Good wool mixtures such as you get from Ground Effect or Torm (have both of these) are robust, look good, feel good and last ages. I’ll commute in one of these for most of a week and they stay sweet 👍 My Torm jersey used to get loads of positive comments, which is amazing because I’m a bit of a gooseberry.

They’re both well over 10 years old now and still get used all the time.

Change name by deed poll to Max.

    Buy sharpie.

    Create MAX tyres.

    Win.

    Maximise reliability, minimise faff.

Folding a bike and taking it indoors (while wet, dirty) is faff.

You’ll be wanting something that doesn’t look too flash so you can lock it outside without worrying about it or being too upset when it does get stolen.

    er, so what munrobiker said!

I think it could hinge on what the listing was.

    New
    New – Other

    etc.

each condition will have guidelines. IIRC anything “New” should (IMHO) be complete but “New – Other” may not not in retail packaging or other specified differences.

Buy the hill for mountain bikers?

Certainly plausible. You’ll need a very motivated group to drive it forward though and a landowner who wants to sell.

they’ll still need to purchase the “crop” and clear the dying/diseased trees though.

I have a small share in this:

disassemble the third bike and put the parts in bags, even bin bags are ok. You now have two bikes and some extra luggage.

Because of the extra friction, clutch mechs will feel really stiff when your cables start going stiff. Try new cables if you haven’t replaced them.

Lower Man is a hoot, with a captial HOO. Instead of descending down Keppel Cove, you should stay high and continue onwards towards Sticks Pass.

Descending Keppel Cove would be a heinous waste of height.

There are other cheeky ways down instead of descending Sticks Pass back to the highlighted route, but they are cheeky.

So what mainstream brands have this rounded head shape? I have only tried a few brands and don’t know if I have a round head or a long head or what.

    Blue/Orange.

It’s not too much orange so works well with the small orange flash/stripe on the frame.

That said, surely it’s only another three rides before your frame cracks and you get a warranty replacement in a different colour….

    (sorry)

I’ve not ridden at Kielder for a few years. If GT, Inners & golfie are your usual haunt then Kielder might be a disappintment, it might be great.

There is of course T******n, but I’m not up to date on how contentious the access is and whether the landowners are upset again. Nothing is signposted so you’d need to do your research or blag a guide.

Kidland is no-no, the landowners don’t want people riding there outside of the sanctioned events.

FWIW I’d try exporing elsewhere within the Tweed Valley of you think you’ve done it all. Yair can be more mellow, Thornielee more steep.

    Also, Pentlands?

    best new music

IMO if you don’t know a song, it can be difficult to get the best of a live performance – especially when the performances are so charged up as I saw last night. The ones I saw were generally not playing their most accessible/popular song.

Maybe go to Spotify and listen to the “most played” track from each album to get a between introduction.

I caught a few of the performances – thought Cate Le Bon’s vocals were off. Black Midi were not trying to make them selves accessible, fantastic 😁. Need to go a find this Dave fella, should like he’s got some good stuff to listen to. Laving a message is great, I hope it’s musical too. Really thought Idles were going to get it after that performance though, the crowd were loving it.

Gold, Rhodium etc. have horrible reputation. Avoid.

We sued Budget. The Car was fine and the staff pleasant but Budget use a shared desk/staff with Avis and got punted to the back of the queue every time an Avis customer joined the queue. 😑

We have a chariot (old version), the double is pretty much the same.

The stroller wheels and draw bar (for use as a trailer) both remove and stow on board when not being used. It doesn’t take long to remove them but altogether (including fully collapsing the chariot to leave it at nursery in the buggy store) I stopped using the chariot for nursery drop offs and use a Hamax seat over the back wheel instead.

when we have two at nursery for a short while I will probably use both the Chariot and Hamax or maybe the Hamax and a MacRide. That’ll be interesting. Or we may buy a double chariot for a while.

I did exactly what somafunk suggests – albeit on carbon rather than titanium and with a cheapy demmel copy. No reason why grinding won’t work on Ti, might take longer.

Ooh, interested in this thread. I’m not too bad with a sewing needle and whil eI don’t want to go making trousers or rucsacs, I do want to alter things a bit more tidily & easily (like the massive over-window sunshade I bought for the car).

Molgrips, timidwheeler – I might be interested if it doesn’t work out for you.

Or do I just buy a basic full size? I don’t have a lot of room for more stuff!

Thanks all, the Burgtecs looks a good shout.

joebristol – I had exotic ones before these and they didn’t last very long before the axle fell apart. admittedly they were the thinner model

Northwind – yes I had realised (although you’d be forgiven for assuming I’m stupid). At that price they don’t have to last too long. And while one pedal has cracked, it will probably last quite a while before breaking. And dead pedals can become donors for spare parts, etc.

Thanks again all, I’ve had a good chat with the MiL who is a keen bean gardener with extensive knowledge, I need to consult my documents to see if two trees is a possibility and will maybe post a shortlist, or maybe just post the results next summer.

Apple tree or two going in the back garden anyway :-) maybe a plum also.

Hazel is a good shout that was on our list too. (if you’ll let me hop on a hazel twig, I’ll beckon my friend…)

As for a tree in a pot, I have a tiny little oak that has travelled round many flats with me. It’s maybe only 75 cm tall. It’s a happy little tree, has seen much more of the world than its ancestors.

Befriend them. They’re normally normal folk, you can enjoy their company and might even buy you a coffee when you stop :-)

Weldtite kit has never let me down. I also carry a tube for races and big days out (actually, I never remove it from my bag so it goes everywhere with me).

What’s more useful is a spare valve core. I’ve helped out so many other riders (at least one) who was stuck because their valve core was blocked with sealant.

With my very basic understanding of the GCSE grading system, I believe those are very strong results, right? So could well be looking at a serious science at a top university? At GCSE results, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Had a few ideas and a vague direction but that’s it. She will have to starts making choices soon though, so how to think about it?

I often think of subjects opening and closing doors.

Does Photography A-Level open any doors?
Does not taking F Maths close doors (like Physics or Engineering at Oxbridge)?

You can’t do an AS-Level any more for a year to see how it goes before dropping one? (I did Maths, F. Maths, Phys, Chem & Geography for AS-Level and dropped the Geography after a year).

NorthWind might be able to contribute with more help though, I only have my own experience to fall back on. :-)

They’re dependent on suitable pans mind – they need to be the right material but they also need a very flat base – pans that have warped (or didn’t sit flat to begin with) won’t work well. Its not a bad idea to try different / new pans if theres not a more obvious electrical/mechanical issue.

I’d agree only in part. Flat bases are essential with hobs that work on contact for heat transfer i.e. Ceramic (not sure about halogen). With induction the electromagnetic field will weaken across a larger air gap but I’d not expect a mm to two of warping to make a huge difference (n.b. not an electrical engineer). the pans also need to be ferrous but that’s not an issue here.

LadyGresley – sounds like you do have a problem with not enough power – could be limited by the input/supply or by something going on at the hob. I would not expect it to be cooling related as these are designed to be installed over a drawer or in to a void.

I’d see if you can find the installation instructions in case there is a switch for 13A/plug feed vs wired in feed or chase the wiring and see where it goes.

Who installed it and when? Did they do much re-wiring back to the circuit breaker/RCD?

    Cut on friday, thanks.

    patio is poorly laid

    I’ll give you that one

and where is the fetid sex pond?

In the back garden, duh. I filled it in and now it’s nicely turfed.

Thanks all, lots of good stuff.

I would like a fair sized tree, but yeah, needs to not be huge.

And yeah, I need to check where services might be running across the garden before I plant in a new location.

pH is apparently alkaline-neutral (but I need a better testing kit, I don’t trust mine)

There are lots of Birch, Hazel, & Cherry in nearby front gardens, hey’all safe bets and It’s not a particularly windy area. I think there’s an ash around the corner. We have Rowan, Hazel and a Silver Birch in the back garden, as well as lots of over-mature thorny shrubs that are being removed bit by bit.

We can see some eucalyptus from the back so kind of fancied them as we have fond memories of living in NZ and riding in the gum trees.

Haven’t thought about Acers, mostly because the road is all red and wanted to add some light and greens. We are on ABCD Close and the road on our side is ABCD Walk, which has some car parking spaces for houses and allotments. They do give beautiful colour, but too much red.

Cherries are ace. Spring colour, autumn colour, oh my!

I’ve been told that 70 signs are necessary if there are street lights, because the National Speed Limit would be 30, so 70 has to be signed specifically

For a dual carriageway (i.e. with a central meridian) NSL is 70 mph for a car, 60 for a HGV, etc. (90 for an Audi).

a 70 limit would apply to all vehicles, including HGVs, which I was I understand the reason to be.
