Big fan of the 100% Brisker here, I have a couple of pairs. The newer ones (fluoro orange for commuting) are quite a bit bigger than the very old ones and the logos have stuck on much longer. My old ones have seen a lot of use and despite the logos falling off pretty quick are still holding together structurally, very well.

Thin but tough palm with no padding is ideal for pissing around in the woods techy riding, where you need to feel the bars as opposed to churning out big miles where you might need some padding.

Doesn’t matter. In 2021 we’ll be back to bartering.

Lots of 2m barriers round here and lots of Transporters getting used as work vans. I’d reckon over half liveried vans round here seem to be T5’s.

The folding seats in a Transit are apparently the business though and can add a lot of versatility to a SWB bike carrying van.

Also a tailgate gives a little instant sheltee for getting changed underneath. Barn doors give a bit of instant cover for….

Last Hermes delivery I had, the driver took a photo of it just inside the threshold with the door open. Perfect.

I don’t really see what the truss arrangement on the seatstay brings

I’m gonna reckon that he’s gained area to create a yoke of some sort between the LH and RH seat stays that isn’t totally noodly.

That sounds a bit shit, I’ll ask the Mrs what she’d do. Maybe you could call your gp to get referred directly, but would you end up back where you are now?

I must have had the older Strike, or may have been the Strike 2, dunno.

Not the warmest, not the most waterproof but a really good compromise leaving your hands remarkably dextrous… because they’re not that bulky. I used to use them for Winter MTB and commuting. They were great for MTB when IME your hands don’t get so cold. For commuting not so brilliant but still OK down to -3.

Maybe a bit punishing for a week of DH true, but you could hire a DH bike for the one week a year trip?

For Hamsterley, the Spectral is spot on for most of the trails, though the features at Descend have been getting steadily bugger the last couple of years.

It’s not about being comfortable, it’s about doing the right thing.

We have most of the Oi! books, but we have had Oi Duckbilled Platypus and Oi Puppies form the library (remember that place???).

I’ve also been studiously collecting the Hair Maclary (and Slinki Mailinki) books, I don’t think we’re missing many 😊

And I think we have the full set of What the Ladybird Heard books, including the latest one signed by JD

I remember the Katie Morag books from being little – I think my mum was very keen, what with us growing up on a wee island.

A first book of Nature looks superb and has gone on the list.

Rabbit and Bear looks nice, but I’m looking to stretch her to some more wordy stuff

I don’t know the Oliver Pig books, I’ll have a look at them.

    Thanks all

The accessible parts are busy – and covered in shit and rubbish. Walk for a couple of hours and you’ll be fine.

(Maybe no more busy than normal but whereas I used to mostly haunt the high fells, I’m now doing much more simple stuff with the kiddos)

I thought I’d allow my supplier to fit them so that I could stop manually taking readings every month or two (we’ve had someone visit to take readings… once or never).

Instead the installer cocked up the paperwork so the gas meter never got swapped properly so I’ve been on estimated readings since September.

Also, the display unit won’t talk to the smart bit of the meter, apparently its a well known issue and is waiting for a software fix.

    So nah. Bollox to that.

I still use tubes on the commuter, buggy, chariot, lots of places…

Repaired tubes go straight back on so that I can verify that the repair will hold!

(for hub geared bikes I can normally avoid removing the rear wheel too)

Cargo bike – it’s less than a mile to nursery and another 6 to work, so I’m dead keen to keep it on my purpose built commuter bike, but the idea had passed my mind.

Chariot – would be ideal but I’m not sure I’d leave it locked up or not outside nursery for a year.

Facebook – I’ve not found anything yet (NE).

Helmets – yes, we put helmets on both of ours but even in the Chariot proper we found that the helmets would get pushed forwards like bri-72 described.

OK, so my problem was a bit constrained, which led me towards my solution – which might be more effort than is necessary for you.

My fence was made with old school posts (68mm??) so set in to massive chunks of concrete. The wood inside the square hole was well rotten so the repair buddy etc. wouldn’t work.

I tried excavating the hole in the concrete but it was too small to bash a 70mm (B&Q) post in to.

The repair spurs like this, that fit 700 mm posts nearly worked but were too wide at the top an wouldn’t be very stable anyway due to the hole being rotted out.

What did work was removing the rotten fence post, excavating he hole and setting one of these in to the hole (with the fence post already hammered in).
    https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Concrete-Fence-Post-Support-for-Posts—75-x-75mm/p/540561

I did these one by one around the garden and the fence stayed up. Took a while but I didn’t ever sacrifice an entire weekend to it at any point either….

I replaced one two rotten fence rails as I worked my way round, which considering that all the original posts had rotten away, was pretty good.

I’ve done a relevant repair to a out 10 fence posts so far on my 35 year old fence so will post more later. Send me a PM if I forget!

Rich/tdog, cheers. That sort of frame although 16″ does have plenty of standover. I’d need to make sure the reach was similar too, but it does look short.

It also uses thru axles and tapered headset, which don’t work with my stash of old kit 🤦‍♂️

And due to wanting to use old kit, I’m keen to keep it 2nd hand.

People keep on asking me whether my work will be turning over to making ventilators and PPE and I have to say no – my work place are actually more of a design and assembly shop – all our fabricating is outsourced or bought-in. Even our related companies are all steel, aluminium, welding and machining. We’ve been told today though they they will be starting machining of plastic components for ventilators though, which warms my cockles. It will be inefficient but it will be something!

2 years is not a lifetime! I’ve had head colds that last longer than that! Kick up a stink on social media if you can be bothered (this is a good start).

I’m often in our local big 24hr ASDA between around 22:00 (with the wee one in a sling) and they’ve just blocking the aisles with crates of stuff! I think I’d have to be there around 03:00 to find the shelves refilled.

the green roasting tin, Does it include gluten in every recipe?

I can’t think of many (any?) meals from the book that include anything containing gluten as a core component. Lots of them will “serve with flatbread and yogurt” or something but it’s easy enough to work around. Some use bulgar wheat, some use couscous or polenta, could be substituted.

    Get it straight by eye.
Dial the pads in/out using the adjusters either side on the caliper
    Sorted

Top tip – use a stiff outer on the rear.

Has anyone genuinely started panic buying yet

No, absolutely not. There are no shortages because of lack of production, only because of people.

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it

I kind of figure if something is “fixed” and will be included in the sale it’s absolutely acceptable to open it and have a look. So fitted furniture, storage cupboards, fitted appliances are fair game. If the viewing is with the owner I’d always ask before I opened anything though.

This is what my thoughts are.

If a vendor doesn’t want you looking in the fitted wardrobes, then you probably don’t want to be doing business with them either.

So then 6Music must be for people who were into indie music 20+ years ago and prefer hearing their old faves repeated back to them by ex Radio1 DJs

    No, that’s Radio X.

FWIW, I’m really enjoying listening to Kate Tempest.

The first time I heard Firestorm on the radio, I thought “what’s this rubbish, it’s not music, I don’t want to listen to poetry”.
The second time, I thought “this is ok actually there’s some nice wordplay”
The third time, I thought “I’ve never met this girl in the song but I think I love her too”

We’re eating more and more plant-based. Harder to ditch the dairy but we consume about 3/4 oat milk and 1/4 dairy milk at home now, which is much better. Cook meat once or twice a week. Not perfect, but better.

We were making the change not so much for health, or cost, mostly for sustainability.

The sweep of plant-based products and Veganuary, etc. have made it much easier, too.

Big love for this book –

Definitely worth a try – warranty or repair. I have some seven year old Freerider Element VXi’s that keep getting glued back together! I’d also recommend Freesole (it now has a different name but is a polyurethane glue) over Shoe Goo – much better.

I got a big tub of something (from Wickes but can’t find it on the website at the mo).

Advantages over polyfilla – smoother and easier to apply, softer so easier to sand smooth.
Disadvantages against polyfilla – shrinks more so imperfections over 5mm deep may need a 2nd pass, takes longer to dry (esp. compared to the 10min quick drying stuff).

If I remember, I’ll have a look at what I used, later.

Agree with most of the above, be sure to match or better the CCA rating. I assume the 760A vs. 870Z is the CCA rating (seems about tight?) so you’ll be good. Form factor/shape/szie needs to be close enough, too.

I like the idea of the Helmetor – not for the lockability, but because it hangs them sweaty-side out. At £10 that’s pricey but not ridiculous. Looking at nearly a ton too mount the entire household like that though! I might try a few hooks I have lying around first.
