    Mine came without the hoses attached to the hoods, only being attached to the calipers. Assuming this is to enable internal cable routing…

    Make sure the internal olive hasn’t rotated during transportation, and that you have a 8mm spanner for doing up the compression bolt thing.

    The distant sound of the morning commute on a dual carriageway, as you whizz down a bridleway.

    @endomick Get yourself a Starling Bank account, their conversion rates are waaaay better. I was going to pay with PayPal for some wheels, but it was tens of pounds cheaper paying with the bank card.

    I’m currently running Conti Terra Trail 700c x 40mm, which are only two rides old. Given what I’ve read though, that kind of tyre is ideal for actual gravel roads. It’s not proving so ideal for the local slop…

    @crimsondynamo I get the reasoning, and thinking about it critically, it’s a good fall back to have. Was just planning on finishing, jumping in the cart and driving a couple of hours to my brothers and kipping there. I suppose this gives me the option of just crashing if I’m totally wasted.

    I have a Topeak Ratchet Rocket, it’s got me out of trouble on multiple occasions. I like the fact that I don’t need to carry a separate chain tool anymore, but can’t comment of the tyre levers, as I’ve never used them. I also use it when doing maintenance at home, so consider it more than just a trail-side tool. Yes, you can just use allen keys, but I like the ratchet, especially if I’m just using one hand.

    I’m considering an upgrade to the Ratchet Rocket Lite NTX+, as a replacement for my current Ratchet Rocket and 5Nm TorqSocket combo.

    Was planning on getting lights and batteries from there next year. I just need a battery to get me there…

    Out this morning for another bimble to check yesterdays fettling. Further fettling was required once I got home. Crisp and frosty out, and I had to wait until it got light, as the cheapo battery is borked and wont power the lights for longer than 15 minutes or so…

    A forsty shake down...

    No frost today in South Cambs, just loads of slop. Took the RAG+ out for a shake down, it would appear that I’ve traded a Hummer (fat bike), for a Lancia Stratos 😨. Spent most of the time on the bridleways and byways wondering if I’d made the right decision to get a gravel bike, but then when I hit the road I knew it was correct. It’ll be a flipping rocket ship when it stop raining and drys out.

    Clarty sector #1

    A shake down ride wouldn’t be a shake down ride, without a bit of mid-ride adjustment.
    Fettling...

    Fat bike, or gravel bike, the local slop remains the same.
    The slop ramains the same...

    First proper outside ride since May, the heart and lungs wanted to get out of second gear, but the legs were screaming for mercy. Time to knuckle down and get the miles in, otherwise the Dirty Reiver 200 will be a death march.
    Nearly home...

    Had some breakfast, took my daughter to stage school, then watched a video on the DT Swiss website. It went back together without any issues. I might have been calmer if there hadn’t been so many small niggling problems with this bike build, hopefully we’re all sorted for a shake down ride tomorrow.

    @ta11pau1
    I appreciate that freehub need to come off, but I don’t think I’m being that out there by expecting them to stay on, unless your acctualy trying to take them off…

    Thanks for the picture @bigyan that would’ve saved my watching a video…

    Took all the cables off, put them all back on, following the instructions. It works. No idea what was going on last night. Now going to ride up and down the High Street and grin like a loon.

    @rOcKeTdOg it sometimes clicks once, very occasionally it clicks three times. The cable doesnae move either way. I’ll have a look in the morning and make sure the hood is back on properly.

    @scotroutes
    I followed the instructions off the Shimano techdocs website…

    So LBS had the flat-flat front adapter, not the flat-flat rear adapter… 🤬

    I’d quite like to do a shake down ride before the weekend, so does anyone know of any online shops with the adapter, who do next day delivery? Everyone seems to be able to get me one by the weekend, which is carp.

    Took the bottom off, then unscrewed the top. Looks like the plunger o-ring is M.I.A. I can’t see if it’s wedged at the bottom of the tube or not. Hopefully a new o-ring and it’ll at least keep trucking for a bit longer… 🤷‍♂️

    Phoned a few of the LBS’s until I found one that had an adapter in stock (the Aztec one). Will pop in tomorrow and pick it up, along with a load of outer gear cable housing.

    @Mister-P you sure about that…? From memory, Thornbridge Jaipur was ~275 calories for a 500ml bottle and they’re about the same ABV.

    @Onzadog no idea, I run custom footbeds in mine to provide proper arch support, so have never used the original footbeds.

    Thanks @wheel, I tried to screw it in, but I think the damage had been done by that point. I put a tyre on it last night anyway and it popped up nicely with just a track pump. I’ll find out this evening if it’s still up or not.

    Lake maybe expensive, but if you actually have wide feet, they are the dogs dangley bits.

    @slamman69

    Hi, if you want it in aluminium, not for a while, if you can stretch to titanium we make one now. Our BowTi frame comes in both axle sizes.

    Thanks for the reply, I was mainly looking for a cheap aluminum frame, so missed that the Ti one came with different rear axle spacing. It’s a bit out of my price range at the moment, maybe one day…

    Bit of a thread hijack, but all those DT Swiss videos show the end caps being removed in a vice. How do you remove them if you don’t have access to a vice…?

    Going to try bike packing. Starting along the Icknield Way riders route to Thetford and back, then extending that to include the Peddars Way to Hunstanton and back. Might look at doing the South Downs Way too.

    I also fancied doing the Dirty Reiver 200, but it clashes with my big goal for next year, the Guildford 12 (swim a mile, once an hour, every hour, for 12 hours).

    I stripped my Calibre Dune last weekend. Can’t quite bring myself to take the cracked frame to the tip. Must buy another frame of some sort…

    @slamman69
    any plans to do a fattie frame with 197mm rear spacing…?

    I was going to suggest Conti Terra Trail, but they only do them in 40mm. Have a look at:

    See there’s anything there that takes your fancy.

    Just found a new Norbar TTi50 for £55 on eBay, so I bought it. If I’m going to build this bike, I’m damn well going to do it properly! For a change… 🙄
