Some mountain bike bibs are tougher – reinforced sections to deal with more scrapes.

I wear dhb bib longs on my mountain bike and there is no noticeable difference compared with dedicated mountain bike gear.

Never again will I buy a bike from MHW Bike House. What a nightmare!

I will let you know if they put it right for me. In the mean time I have a brand new bike I cannot ride.

At least I’m enjoying my other bikes at the moment and my Team New Zealand cycling jersey has arrived 🙂

Rode the 29 Reaction GTC SL again last night and the chain slipped off the granny ring and has scratched the frame near the bottom bracket.

My 26 Reaction GTC has a stainless guard attached to the frame to prevent the chain from damaging the frame.

Is my 29 GTC the only frame without this guard?

The guidelines are: if you have been involved in a crash, replace the helmet (especially if it is a couple of years old).

@druidh – No. It’s about the angle. Shifting is fine.

First ride today – just a pootle with my gf. Man, that bike is fast!

Did a couple of sprints and missed a Strava KOM by a second on a really popular climb. Can’t wait to take it out on my usual loop. Needs to dry out a bit more before that happens. Those Ron/Ralphs aren’t mud tyres.

Great. Good prices. No import duty – EU. Have refunded returned items and covered the cost of postage. Great customer service.

Racing Ralphs from On One are pretty cheap.

appy – my 2010 GTC PRO cracked on the seat tube. MHW in Germany replaced it free of charge. That replacement cracked when a rock kicked up from the front wheel and (I kid you not) smashed into the bottom bracket. MHW gave me a crash replacement titanium HPT frame at a very competitive price. Hope this helps.

The cable housing was too long and is vulnerable to being caught and ripped out. Removed the cable, trimmed the housing and replaced the cable. The routing through the bottom bracket was a right pain in the ar*e.

If anyone has any tips on how to route internal cables on the 29 GTC I would love to hear from them. Will probably use dental floss next time.

Interesting how different bits of the truth come together to change the meaning completely.

First impression was that they guy didn’t look like most cyclists. Next questions were who was filming it and why? And, where did she come from?

Now it all makes sense. Can’t help thinking there have been a few clashes between the fox hunting and animal rights groups which we will never see -a good thing!

All I need now is a venomous female ninja button to sort out the rude and aggressive drivers.

My 29er is ready to go, albeit with brakes which need bleeding and topping up with fluid.

This is how they set up the front gear cable. Rough!

I use KMC missing links on my 10 speed chains. You can reuse them.

They can be a bit tight to begin with so also have the pliers to remove them.

Have dropped mine to 28psi. Feel pretty firm compared with my 26. Waiting for things to dry out a little before riding on the moor. Still need mud tyres and the Rocket Ron / Racing Ralph combo isn’t great in the mud.

Suggest the simple point that there are a lot of riders who could improve their skills. Same with uk drivers.

None of use are perfect but more respect and consideration would help solve 99% of bad behaviour.

Very happy with mine too. Haven’t properly ridden it yet. MHW have offered to pay to have the niggles sorted out by my lbs.

Really looking forward to seeing how it compares with the 26er of a similar spec (Cube Reaction Pro with HPT frame).

Will check it out. Helicopter tape?

It does use an Allen key. Fits up inside the nut. Can be reasonably tight. I think there is a recommended torque rating. Saddle and seat post is fine – good quality.

Yeah, you’re right. I thought UK shops were saying they couldn’t get hold of the SL 29er.

MHW have offered to pay to get the problems solved at my LBS. Have replaced and shortened the housing on the front derailleur cable myself. Very fiddly.

Anyway, good on you for getting a reduced price.I bought the 2010 PRO which I loved. Now has an HPT frame, Hope XC3 wheels and XT all round.

Where did you get it from by the way.

gsp1984 – just realised yours is a 26 which is why you got it for £1630.

The 29 GTC PRO SL retails at £1800 in the UK.

I have an Elite HPT – the 26 titanium bike which Cube stopped making this year. I think the geometry is also different – a steeper head tube which makes the bike more twitchy.

    Thanks gsp1984.

No, the right side was applied. They forgot the left. What chainstay protector (size?) are you using I have an old Cube hardtail one but it is far too tight.

Has anyone replaced the cables yet?

I had to replace the front gear cable yesterday (to sort out the poorly sorted outer).

The internal routing on my 26 GTC Pro was a little tricky so I used a capillary tube to guide the new cable. On the 29 the exit holes are too narrow.

Does the internal routing on the 29 have guides? I managed to get the cable through the down tube with very little problems but the routing through the bottom bracket was a tricky. Will use dental floss next time.

For the 29 GTC SL. Warranty won’t be an issue as I have bought from them before and sorted out all concerns. My LBS couldn’t get the bike and have never been flexible on price. When I bought my GTC Pro 26 not a single UK company would budge on price. MHW saved me around £200 on that one.

Helicopter patches should be on both sides of the steerer tube because over time the cables can damage the resin.

These are minor problems but had very high expectations from the German company as they have been brilliant in the past.

    Will keep you updated.

By the way, Rocket Rons and Racing Ralphs are definitely summer tyres. My SL 29er is going to be a dry weather machine.

Re the jam nuts. Good point – do you really need them? I always assumed that if you didn’t they wouldn’t be supplied.

Well my bike has finally arrived today. A lot of hassle and pour communication from MHW. Cost £1585 including shipping but it has arrived with a few problems. The front gear cable wasn’t set up right – massive overhand under the bottom bracket. Spent hours trying to replace it today. If anyone has some tricks on how to change the cables, please let me know.

Other (minor) problems include no chain stay protector, missing helicopter tape on the left side of the steerer tube, no jam nuts on the inner tube valves and poorly set up brakes – the bite point is too late and the adjuster barrels are screwed as far in as possible.

Nightmare! Pretty pissed with the whole thing. Have emailed them asking for compensation so I can sort it out at my LBS.

Think you need a special tool.

On the moors where I ride, the heavy rain has cleared away the soil in parts forming little drainage channels.

The moor is made up of all sorts of material – peat, clay, gravel even the odd bit of slag and shale from historic mining and smelting.

All these different materials hold and drain water at different rates so you can have dry sections almost immediately after a long down pour and boggy sections after weeks of dry (and windy) weather.

I must be completely dim because I couldn’t get it to work on my android at all. Found the satellite but didn’t start to track.

Can someone give me a dummies guide to running it on Android?

My 26 Rocket Rons / Racing Ralphs aren’t great in the wet – especially on roots and rocks. Light and fast but not a mud tyre!

Hoping things will dry out a bit and I will ride the standard tyres (when the bike finally arrives!) until autumn.

Hear Mud X’s are good in 29.

I have a good root if people are keen. Starts Saltaire, short ride along the canal to warm up, back along the river and up to Higher Coach Road, through the woods to Sheriff / Lode Pit Lanes, across Shipley Glen and up the hill past Dobrudden farm….around Baildon Moor to the far side on the other side of the golf course, back to Saltaire via Shipley Glen and the woods….

Message me if any of you want to go riding – weekends probably best for me but often out after work too. Email address now on my profile.

Loads of great riding around this area – Shipley Glen, Hirst Wood and Baildon Moor. This is my weekly stomping ground so it’s encouraging that mountain biking has been formally sanctioned by the Council.

Quite a bit of ‘enhancement’ has taken place in all of these areas and I often ride the bit below Dobrudden Farm and see the downhill crew hanging out at the top of the run.

If anyone wants to get together for a ride, I’m up for it.

Altura Attack here too. No problems, pretty tough. Not particularly waterproof after 6 months of use tho. Suspect they need reproofing.

Depends on the type of riding you are doing.

I’m pretty light physically and I like climbing and covering flat ground quickly so think weight makes a big difference.

The law of diminishing returns definitely applies in terms of money spent to benefit and some of the lighter stuff isn’t as robust.

Tyres / tubes / tubeless are a good place to start and wheels too as they involve spinning weight as well as dead weight.

Estimated frame calculator here[/url]. A number of others on the web.

Probably not helpful but recommend at least sitting on the bike on a turbo trainer or better still ride the bike.

Ideally you want a bike fit as it’s more critical to have the correct size in a road bike due to longer periods spent in a single seated position.
