Councills have intervention standards. When a defect is above a certain limit they act. Ask your Council. Plus a little used piece of legislation in s56 Highways Act. You can serve notice on the highway authority. They then accept that the road is theirs to maintain and state whether it is out of repair or not. If it is they should repair. If they say not you can take them to the magistrates. Cheaper to repair

Its a bridleway to the sewage works which cuts back to the main road. Rest is footpath, not known anyone that’s used them. Back of Bagden is longer but better

I do a similar commute with laptop, etc. Tried rucksack but now use panniers all the time. Its quite a weight on your back

Head towards Hopton Woods, Briestfield, Whitley – quite an extensive network of off road stuff to get lost in for a couple of hours

Disappointing. I am thinking of replacing my 16yo P7 with a Pure7 next year through cycle to work. Might hang fire on selling now.

I have a Croix de Fer and love it for commuting and mixing on/off road. Specifically chose it for putting racks/guards on. Not raced cx so cant really comment. It is on the heavy side but I dont really notice as its such a good ride. Tried a Boardman and also found it too long.

I was thinking the same thing last night. Done many bothy trips with my young son, carrying coal, on top of the rack, full set of panniers and a 75l rucksack. Not ultralight but started going with my son when he was 5. Cant really understand the advantages with frame bags etc. Am I missing something

I broke my kneecap about 15 years ago and its constantly swollen. When I started cycling again ignored stretching and paid the price. My muscles in the leg with the bad knee went all out of alignment. Because one leg was stronger than the other the strong leg compensated for the weak. A visit to a physio sorted it. As for exercises – squats, step ups, lie on your bed on your front, with your legs hanging off the end horizontal from the hip and raise them one at a time, and lie on your side with your bad knee on top; bend both legs at the hips and knees and then imagine your knees strapped together; raise and lower your foot. One final piece of advice from my doctor – keep riding – it’ll lengthen your life, your knee may hurt though

Excellent. I’ve used one off and on road. Even when fully loaded off road touring

Thanks. Choice would be cx or 15 year old P7 with pace, very short travel forks. Thought of a long ride on a new bike might be too tempting
