Where I ride you don’t tend to get really that much use for a dropper. I’ve gone back to a standard post.

TBH I found a dropper is like carrying round a mobile in your pocket- more faff to life.

You soon readapt back. All that bollocks ‘oh I suddenly came to a drop in the trail with my seat post up like an XC bike’.

I found the opposite – sold my Reverb and have really missed it.

It tastes so nice though. As does beer and wine. Just enjoy in moderation as the slogan says.

edward2000, can’t I just send you in on my behalf? How about 5% of any discount you procure?

Only benefit from cash is the processing saving of a card…..unless you are buying it down the pub??

Sorry I should clarify, by cash I meant just not buying it on credit.

It’s for a Stumpjumper Evo and they do seem a bit thin on the ground and I can’t find any discounted online so I don’t rate my chances to highly, but as patriotpro says, I can only ask.

I use snowheads a lot in winter and even went on one of their holidays in April. Really enjoyed it and met some very nice people.

handybendyhendo, haha no, nothing like that!

I suppose it depends how well a particular model is selling whether they’ll be willing to budge.

I had BB30 on my Cannondale road bike and had to take it back to the shop three times because it developed a loud noise. Previous road bike was BB30 and never had an issue so it might have just been a dodgy one or badly installed.

Trying to decide between one of these and a zesty at the moment

I’m also looking at the Ariel but at 6,2″ was concerned the large might be a bit cramped. andysandes did you find the large a tight fit?

Check out rideandslide. I stayed with them when I went skiing and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Lovely chalet, great food and hosts can’t do enough for you.

For next year the Zesty is going to be 29 only .

They’re making a 29er and 27.5 for 2014. The 29er will be 120mm front and back. The 27.5 will be 150mm front and back, which is baffling because the 27.5 Zesty is also 150mm f&r but with larger diameter forks and different geometry.

+1 for BB. Helvellyn is a good ride, down Dollywagon if you’re feeling ninja, Sticks is a bit easier on the arms but still very good.

The options really are 26, 27 and 29 – although none of them are actually 26, 27 or 29

    And look at a 29

Yeah, I should do really. A lot of people say they make sense for tall folk – I’m 6,3″

I mainly ride Peak, Lakes and on holiday in Scotland. Will be going Alps this summer and will be moving to NZ in the future so would need to be suited to this type of terrain.

I have dreams where I can manual over pump tracks. Always get really disappointed when I wake up.

mrmo, I’m pretty baffled, I know choice is good an everything but I was having a tough time deciding as it is. First world problems and all that.

I know that whatever bike I get I’ll love and have fun on but I’d still rather not be riding a betamax if I can help it.

Ride within your comfort zone, don’t think it’s a good time to try anything stupid & wear what you deem comfortable to ride in.

Sage advice. I do like getting air and I’m comfortable doing it but never done anything big, like road gaps. I should clarify, that I won’t be riding everyday as it’s primarily a camping trip but couldn’t resist at least a couple of days while I’m passing

Think I’ll go for knee and elbow pads with my usual lid. Cheers guys.

So many bikes have been stolen from the Greater Manchester area recently (including three of mine). I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

Knowing me, I’ll probably have a bash at a downhill run or try a big jump. Can you rent FF helmets when you’re out there?

No need for a full facer then? I thought that was standard issue for Alpine riding? Suppose ultimately you choose the level of protection you’d like in the event of a fall but I don’t want to end up looking like a knight at a tourney.

Lapierre look like they’ll be ditching 26ers for 2014. The Spicy is moving to 27.5 and they’re selling the Zesty in either 120mm 29er or 150mm 27.5.

Most awesome bike ever – fact!

Was looking at this in Leisure Lakes and it’s an absolute stunner. Unfortunately my budget doesn’t stretch that far so looking at the alloy version instead.

I think Top Gear would be better if they shifted focus to the cars, rather than the presenters performing their usual tired roles in contrived and predicatable features.

I used to really enjoy it, but felt it got a bit repetitive and the presenters became caricatures. I’ll still watch for the new cars though.

I bought those Sombrio ones for £45 from CRC. Yes they are as mingin as everyone has been saying, but they look tough, they’re leather and have a flap covering laces so should be pretty weather proof. They’ll end up covered in mud eventually anyway so who cares what they look like.

No. There will always be parts that are x% stiffer, stonger etc but what they don’t tell you is that your exisiting bits are stiff/strong enough and completely fit for purpose.

****ats. Sorry to hear that mate, my house was burgled a couple of weeks ago and they took three bikes, seems to have been a spate of these in Manchester lately.

Pay regular visits to the local pawn shops, Cash Convertors etc. Keep an eye on the classifieds in Pink Bike, eBay, Gumtree.

http://www.findthatbike.co.uk/ – lists all new bikes advertised for sale on Gumtree and eBay. Set up saved eBay searches on your phone if you’ve got the app or get someone else to.

I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Paceman, I’ve demoed the three I’ve mentioned and liked them all! When I say demoed I rode the Zesty and Norco around Manchester City Centre, down a few steps and along the canal. The Stumpy I rode around the bike shop car park. I need a demo day really.

My home gym consists of: dumbells, press up bars, pull up bar. It’s surprising how much you can do with these things. Like someone else said though, it depends on your fitness objectives.

I will be buying a new full suspension bike in the near future as my previous bike was pinched. Choice is good and everything but I do feel a bit baffled tbh.

I’ve been trying to decide between a Zesty, Stumpy Evo and Norco Sight but the guy in my LBS was singing the praises of 29ers and insists that they’d really make sense for me, because I’m tall.

I’ve been dithering enough as it is and then I find out there’s another size! I’ll probably do what I always do and buy the one that has the nicest paint job :D

I have to say riding my fixie is the perfect cure for the competitive commuter instinct, I have 14 miles to cover each way, my bike has 1 gear and I need function when I get to work, therefore of course the more serious “Contenders” can shoot on past on their composite ego waggons…
My real respect is reserved for one fella who has about the same distance to commute as me I think, but he does it on a steel tourer with double panniers fitted, at a pretty respectable pace. He let me draft him once for about 10 miles and I managed to keep up but he was far fitter than me, and I think my stint on the front was a bit too slow for his liking, he finally dropped me a couple of miles from home.

I sometimes commute on my ego wagon but mainly I’ve been using an old heavy ladies hybrid.

Sorry to hear that. My house was burgled 2 weeks ago, they took all my bikes as well as all my other stuff, so I know how you’re feeling. I’m in Manchester so will my eyes peeled.
