The Godfather a fair few times. On my 2nd sitting of Game of Thrones books at the moment.

I fell off a 29er on my first go. In fact, I’ve fallen off every wheel size.

At 6,2″ I’d have thought a 54cm will be way too small. Depends on other factors such as top tube length, but a 58cm sounds more suitable.

That’s lovely, I really like green bikes. What frame is that?

There are some truly disgusting excuses for human beings in my area but very fortunately my immediate neighbours are lovely people. I sympathise with anyone who has to live with a nuisance scrote next door.

I emailed Giant and they said their new range is likely to be out late September

I’ve lost a few lbs since reducing my bread intake, the reduction in butter might also have something to do with it.

I’ve not been eating that much less really. I’ve replaced toast and butter for breakfast with porridge and an omelette. The porridge and omelette fills me up for longer.

Anybody who wears lycra shorts UNDER baggies is a no-hoper

You should try a lacy thong, it makes one feel very sexy

Endura Spray MT500 shorts are waterproof at the back which is good for wet trails but because the front isn’t waterproof they aren’t much cop in a downpour.

Gore Path jacket has been great for me

Socks, seal skins will add a bit of extra waterproofing if your shoes are breached.

I had a set of Havens and was really impressed. Light, good width gives a nice tyre profile, tubeless set up was really easy, hubs look amazing, I bashed em around a bit and they stayed true, despite my 6,2″ 90kg bulk. I never had any hub problems (had to adjust the preload once) but then I only had them for about a year before my bike was nicked. I’d definitely get another set.

I’d be asking the LBS now. Rather than posting on here.

You’re absolutely right. I’m prone to utterly pointless posts. Will give them a bell.

Next question – arse wiping…front to back or back to front?

AlexSimon, aye, why do I post this cr@p? I’ll ask them.

The Trance looks very nice indeed, in fact I’m seriously thinking of cancelling my order for the new Trek Fuel until I’ve had a go.

Is cancelling a bike you’ve asked your LBS to order from the distributor bad form? I’d still be buying the Giant from them.

German shops are always worth a look. Try:

    Hibike
    Bike Discount.de
    Bike Component.de
    Tretwerk
    Actionsports

I ordered a Reverb Stealth in 31.6 125mm drop for £240 including bleed kit. It was delivered in 5 days.

Not the lightest but it’s very smooth and easy to rack up miles on

All stock parts (Sora) apart from RS80 wheelset.

I was there on Saturday and really enjoyed it – lovely views, some fun singletrack and really quiet. Loads of fire road but doesn’t bother me too much.

My mate was on a hardtail and I was demo-ing the new Trek Fuel 29er which was fun :D

Still managed a comedy over the bars crash on the most innocuous non tech bit of trail, my own fault for not paying attention.

I once got home from a shopping trip, place my bags on the counter and eggs started popping out of their shells and began frying on my kitchen counter. My refrigerator was making a strange noise and emitting a very bright light. When I looked inside I saw an otherworldly mythic pyramid-shaped temple in front of which laid a Terror Dog who suddenly glared at me and roared the word “Zooool!”

    Weird

Mr Snyder, could you film Superman being thrown through a building again please? I don’t think I caught it the first 600 times…

Exactly how I felt. I ended up wishing it would end, it started promisingly as well.

I promised myself no more big Hollywood Blockbusters after Man of Steel, Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus. I think I’ve just got old because once upon a time I would’ve enjoyed those films. Still tempted to watch this though, the trailers always get me – maybe I should just stick to trailers.

Yeah why is it half of south manchester ride to work whereas all the lardarses to the north all drive in?

I’ve noticed this too. I’m in Northern Manchester and hardly see anyone on my commute, but when riding my extended route via South Manchester there are loads more riders. I’m from Withington originally so maybe it there’s something in it.

I intended to have a nice relaxing pootle in this morning, but then a hybrid rider decided to overtake and stop in front of me at the lights…

Don’t they come up fairly short in the top tube? I’m similar height and when I was looking at one, the large seemed a bit cramped. A lot depends on how/where/how long you ride and proportions though I suppose.

SC Blur or Yeti ASR sound like they’d fit the bill if you want to retain the feel of a hard tail.

I got one last year and it’s been great after a modification. The clamp was rotating when gripped by the seat tube, so I drilled a hole through and put a bolt through to secure it. It’s been great ever since.

I commute from Cheetham Hill to Gorton on my road bike but I don’t wear lycra so it can’t have been me you’re on about. I have seen quite a few new decked out roadies lately though, some even have the cheek to overtake.

I was also in the market for a Zesty (314) and found a 2013 one at my LBS (Cookson’s, Bury), for £1800! I went in to buy it but they’d sold it only the day before…gutted.

I reckon they’ll be some big discounts on 2013 Zestys given that the 650b version is on the way.
