@stgeorge – I want to get one of these for my mate – see Funny Llandela crash post – where did your Mrs get it?

    And your question is????

On my rockhopper, the cables do indeed cross over under the downtube. Never been a problem.

Sorry, I just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly, I’m not very good at maintenance but thought I’d give this a bash and it just seemed counter intuitive.

I will swap them round, if that’s the way they’re mean’t to go.

I did the day with Dirt School at Lee Quarry and found it really beneficial. I was taught how to manual, bunny hop properly, drop offs, table tops etc. Rowan Sorrell was involved but he wasn’t leading my group so can’t comment on his instruction technique but the other guys were really good.

I’m going to La Rosiere at the beginning of April. It’s smaller resort, so quiet nightlife, apparently it’s family friendly. It has a good snow record as it’s a high resort (1850m)in the Tarentaise Valley. It seems a cheaper than other French resorts for equipment hire and lift passes, so might be cheaper for lessons too. It is linked to La Thuile in Italy if you fancy a pizza!

It’s my first ski trip, so have nothing to compare it to. Really hoping it will still have snow by April.

Round of bread always mean’t a slice round my way. I thought it might have had something to do with Milk roll.

Forget South Manchester – Cheetham Hill, Moston, Harpurhey and Blackley are where it’s at.

Masi Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2007 is the nicest Amarone I’ve had.

All depends on personal preference though really. I used to love Rioja but I’ve gone right off it. Grenache, Syrah, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiollo, Tempranillo…all are quite different.

I’ll keep both eyes peeled in Manchester.

Hang it on your wall and gaze lovingly. Periodically put more expensive bits on that won’t improve the bike and continue to admire. Occasionally visit a trail centre car park for a bit of dressage.

    Hi Ian,

I’m a regular visitor to Dubai and wondered about taking my bike, I’ve heard the area around Hatta has some good trails. Are there any regular groups that go out and any special bike requirements?

    Cheers,

    Dean

Warrior – I was sceptical after reading the plot synopsis, but it was surprisingly good. Strong performances from Tom Hardy, Edgerton and especially Nick Nolte made what could’ve been a terrible film in to an enjoyable one – 8/10.

I got the 380mm with 125mm travel. I’m 6,2″ with a large Canyon Nerve and it’s perfect, wouldn’t need it any longer.

Carry a rabbits foot, don’t walk under ladders, smash mirrors or put new shoes on the table and you’ll be alright.

Any recommendations for googles with orange lens?

That looks like it will do the job. A good baselayer is important when it comes to keeping warm, although if you’re on the top of a mountain and it’s -20, you’re going to feel it, whatever you’re wearing.

People dropping litter really winds me up, even more so if they’re near a bin.

Losing on FIFA 12 when I’ve completely dominated possession and created more chances.

People who can’t anticipate the flow of traffic. Unnecessary braking on motorways is annoying.

People who become experts on something because they read a Wikipedia page once.

Looking at La Rosiere. I know that Chambery Airport is closer, but flights are more expensive.

I attempted to become a vegetarian, because I was uncomfortable with the cruelty associated with mass farming. I don’t have anything against eating meat, in fact I believe it’s perfectly natural, although maybe not in the quantity and frequency with which people consume it nowadays.

My intention was to give it a break for a while then eat more ethically sourced meat as a special treat. I lasted 6 months and ate a lot more varied diet and lost a bit of weight too. I eventually returned to my carnivorous ways at the end of a drunken night out, I went to KFC and had two Zinger Tower burgers

I have a Nerve XC 8.0 in Large. It’s more than enough bike for most UK riding. I’m 6,2″ and went for the Large, which is about right.

Looks a real beauty. longer travel than the ASR5 and uses DW-Link which people rave about.

As always though, don’t get fixated on it without making sure it fits you. A bike can have the best bits, greatest suspension platform etc, but if it doesn’t feel right, it won’t matter.

Since the addition of the new section, I’d say Llandegla just edges it for me. It’s a personal thing though, I’m enjoying jumping at the moment and Llandegla has a plenty of opportunities to get airborne.

I’m sure you’ll be grinning whichever one you visit.

I use both. SPD’s are definite skill compensators. Much easier to do bunny hops without proper technique on SPD’s, same with jumps. If you can’t manual and want to learn, it’s a lot easier to practice on flats.

Personally I reckon it’s best to learn your trade on flats then move to SPDs.

You should ride Cavedale, ideally when it’s below freezing or raining. Really good descent to get you started.

I use both depending on what kind of riding I’m doing. Flats are good for practising skills such as manuals and proper technique for bunny hops and give you the advantage of being able to dab. SPDs are like a cheater pedal and should give you an advantage once you’ve learned your trade on flats.

Langsett Loop is a good introduction to Peaks riding, as its not too long or technical. Ladybower classic loop is another good one to try and there are a number of routes that start and finish in Hayfield.

I went on the Sunday, I found it really beneficial, especially the jumps coaching. It was inspiring – and demoralising – to see Nikki, Rob, Rowan and the Dirt School guys on the pump track. Incredible skills, with a bit of practice, hopefully I can be 1/2 as good one day.

Overall a great day run by thoroughly nice blokes who are obviously very skilled on a bike.

I’ve got Bose one’s which don’t require batteries and they do a good job of cancelling unwanted noise. Fold up nice and compact too.
