Money no object – Remedy 9

For me, money was an object so I got the Remedy 8 –

Drop the front when climbing, then back to 6″ for the descents, easy.

Best things in my new car – DAB for 6music and a USB port for all my tunes.
6music is really good for new tunes.
Just had a listen to Metric and have downloaded one of thier albums just.

I put some work halfords way.
I signed up for the year maintenace plan for 2 bikes. The cover is just 15 quid. If I put a wheel out of true or what minor works doing on either bike then I can just wheel it in.

My LBS does any major work but it is an hour round trip and last time I phoned them up to book my bike in there was a three week wait – not good for a quick repair.

Check the consumer unit. If it is a new type one there may be a seperate way for the fan (it think the new regs require this).
In that case disconnect the heater, as mentioned above and leave the CB off (and put caution tape on it)

PS – get a better painter in next time – they have painted over the spur

The fact you have caused an earth fault via damaging the phase and neutral

    Should read phase and earth

    I agree with lyons

also, i have a feeling your fuseboard is going to be quite out of date… The circuit really should have tripped/ blown after that.

You need to get a sparky in. The fact you have caused an earth fault via damaging the phase and neutral would have tripped the 30mA RCB on a split board v quickly – Its design to prevent you from killing yourself in the event you drill though a cable 🙄

If you want to keep the existing cons unit make sure the earthing and bonding is correct. the operation of old type fuses and CB’s is dependant on the quality of the earth. If it has fuses and you have a poor earth they will not blow and you will have a fire in the end.

The repair is an easy one – the fact that you are thinking of bodging it could risk your house insurance – not worth it

Those regs have got quite strict – good to prevent against cowboys and people who know nothing about electricty.

I now find that even as a qualified electrical engineer, I can commission HV substations upto 132kV feeding entire city areas and even replace house hold cutout fuses – But I need an electrician to come out and sign off any wiring extensions I do in my house?

Oh well if it means not invalidating the insurance…….

I’ve got the red endura flyte – I Don’t recommend it.
Its light and packs down well but its crap at breathing without a vent open – and when ones open you get wet!

Original plan was to do the long – long mynd. Woke up this morning at 6 to full on, road flooding rain and a temp of only 5 degrees.

We poss need to MTFU, but it didn’t stop raining here (burton) until about 4 this afternoon which would have meant a long wet day in the saddle. Instead I had a great time round the local trails – they seem to drain well and the ground was nice and tacky (apart from the roots!!)

waited until 18.30 – rain had gone away and had a good bomb round my local trails for a couple of hours – fun fun fun!!

Well I was going to try it, as the MTB training at the moment is going well. We have a local 15mile on/off road route near burton and i’ve got the time for that down to a hour. (although me and my mate do share the work load)

Thought with less hills and on the road I could average 20miles and hour and do it in around and 1.45 hours – may have to have a re-think. Didn’t want to buy a road bike as I am saving up for a P7.

Thats exactly what I was planning to do. The main bit of the problem is getting through the birmingham traffic at the end of the day without being knocked down or someone stealing my bike from me!

Was planning to go toward Sutton the head through the lanes toward Alwaras. I will get a route off AA and drive the route in to check it out

PS – don’t have a road bike – will be on my hardtail! 🙄

    Thanks for thar MrOvershoot

I will be there for 6pm and be done by 7 should imagine – just a short blast round. Will work out well, didn’t think the centre would be open.

well it is 32 miles from home to work via the A38 which is my most direct route

Hopefully it won’t be too much further by taking quieter roads (or the canel if poss). If it starts to get over 40miles then I might sack it in. An 80+ mile commute and a full days work may just knacker me out abit!

I’m thinking of going – not too far to travel and I enjoy the smaller venue and listening bands that aren’t so well known

Not been before – so can give a review – but its got to be worth a try if you live near by

You too sound like a racist jumping_flea, with your anti-midge rant …..

Thats a bit harsh. I’ve got nothing against the people or scotland itself – just the pets it chooses to keep (sorry that should read pests!)

Scotland = country that is largely glorious, freedom to roam and populated by the kindest, most liberal thinking and welcoming folk in the world. Oh, and we make whisky too.

and it has about 500 billon midges that will ruin a trip at the wrong time of year!

Well I’m not going to bother voting for anyone – they are all a bunch of corrupt tossers, who put themselves first and the people they are suppose to represent second.

Nothing will change no matter who gets in – a few changes to taxes to make use think we are better off and thats about it.

I was wearing headphones when I got knocked off my bike years ago.
wouldn’t have made any difference if I was or not – I heard the motorbike coming anyway, still wasn’t much I could have done about it as he was driving like a ****t

Luckly I’m still here, and he came out worse because his bike was in bits.
Would still wear headphone, that motor vehicle, if driven badly, will hit you anyway – unless you are going to pull over and stop every time you hear something behind you.

I have the 08 Remedy 8 and have to say it is a great bike. It is a litle heavier than the fuel (which one of my mates has), but it still climbs well and you will love it for the downs. – Jacobs ladder a few weeks ago was superb – barely touched the ground on the decent! :P, and the climb up mam tor and the rest of the route were no probs as the rp23 is fine with the pro pedal.

Trust me it is way better than the prophet (I traded a prophet in for the remedy)

Get abit of local trail fitness in and the climbs will be no problems!

I’ve always gone for what feels best, partly due to the fact that I’m tall and don’t want to waste money that doesn’t fit.

If I was going the self build option, how do I know if the bike will be right? I had a load of test rides when looking for my fs and went for the remedy over a number of other bikes. How do I choose just a frame without seeing how it rides?

    jumping_flea

Size will be a factor – I’m 6ft5, so being cramped is not want I want.
My Remdey is an XL frame, and while some people may think of that as a gate, I like it.

My Current hardtail – a 20inch giant XTC, does just fit, but with a longer stem and the seat set back.

The Inbred frames seem a good price, or will I just be following the crowd?

Rock lobster here – now nearly 2 yrs old an d I cannot fault it in any way :

Seen some good deals on the Rocklobster on Merlin Website, looks like a nice bike! Do they do just frames as I quite like the challenge of a self build!

Whats the max travel fork a rocklobster can take? Looking for tough but not excessive – I already have a remedy for the big stuff

    Some people are just grumpy
We had a walker in the peaks take our photo and insist we were on a footpath and shouldn’t be there (and was quite rude about it all). We told him that if he thought this was a footpath then he was clearly lost! (we had map to prove it) 🙂

On the otherhand we did Jacobs ladder route on Sunday and on the final section we waited for some walkers and they kindly told us thay were the last people for a bit and to go for it – nice people 😛

I just say hello to all the people I encounter and find 90% of they say hi back and we all get on with our days

Got to agree with you coffeeking.
I’ve been riding SPD for a few years (after switching from flats) now and never had any problems getting them to release in any type of riding.

I have do have a set of caged shimano ones though as it at least gives me a good amount of contact if there are mud issue or I have had to release for any reason.

Guess you just got to try the two and go with what suits

Weather around Catton/Burton is Summy – has been most of the day.
Not been down to the course – but if any of the local trails are to go by it will be dry(ish). Weather forecast for over night is dry and tomorrow will be ok with some light rain – so not bad

Done the enduro a couple of times solo and in pairs – didn’t want to do it solo again as 6hrs going round and round is a bit boring. So instead I’m off to do jacobs ladder tomoz – yeh!

    Hello there

    That sounds abit worrying
    I’m running a Remedy 8 (08) and am around 100kg+ also.
Not had any problems with it yet and I’ve given it a fair bit of abuse – including drops and general direct riding like yourself (also in the peaks)
The reason I went for the Remedy was that my prophet was going to blow a shock or fork (lefty) if I kept running it the way I was.

I will have to keep an eye on that one
