Last time I had earth bonding carried out the cable was 6mm2 which provides mechanical strength to the stake.

Main Earth should be – 16mm
Earth connection to gas and water – 10mm
    Supp bond – 4mm

RCD's are sensitive though to small earth leakage so will trip before needing to carry anything heavy

    True –
This is why electricty company's insist that if they don't provide thier own earth then the customer must use an RCD to prevent the chance of a non trip even under fault conditions. (The new 17th ed require RCD protection for all cct's anyway – safe, safe safe!!)

I was just saying to the op that if they have any doubt about their system then get it checked by a qualified sparky – its better not to take the risk

TBH – if you are just concerned about building the PC – attach the anti static mat to the copper work (assuming it is connected into the consumer unit) and you will be at the same earth potential as the rest of the house.

If you feel that there are further concerns please do consult and electrician. An bad earth is the fastest way to a house fire – more amps to operate the protection = more chance of an heating effect on the faulty cable and the surrounding surfaces

Earth rod is copper – The green verdigris round the top connection gives is away due to oxidation of the copper.

The RCD (if there is one) will have a test button, but if you are concerned get a sparky to test it – he will initate a trip via your system as the test button is just a test of the RCD operation, not it's ability to see a fault

This type of earthing is used when it is a non PME system. (Seperate earth spike and (there should be) and RCD

You prob still need to get a sparky round to carry out a test on the earth system to check that you have good enough earth to allow the protection within the consumer unit to operate as it is supposed to.

Better the earthing system = safer the installation.

PS – im not a sparky so not up on the 17th edition – but I do work for an electricity company so do have some earthing knowledge

Mine is the bar mount version and took about 3 weeks to arrive.

Light is great for 50quid!!! Using a tesco torch on my helmet and the two provide loads of light – well pleased

Getting a DAB radio in the car was the best move ever.

Moyles just got sooo bad. I have an hour journey in the morning and can't have heard more than 4 songs.

Radio 6 is great. Shaun Keaveny is superb and I have even started to like George lamb – at least he plays some good music when he is not talking.
The only bad thing is Dave Pearce seems to have found his way on the station??

This topic has been great reading – 9/10
But I'm off for a night ride – hopefully get back into this in an hour and a half to catch up on the goings on.

Hopefully everyone will have had a beer and we will all be friends – just not with Lester

Got my two bikes in a shed.
Its one of those windowless ones with double locking and an alarm.

On the inside I'm using a dead weight (in this case a neutral CT from a 132kV transformer – small but very heavy – bout 70kgs) and expensive chain and lock to secure them.

It seems like if these thiefs want the bikes then they will get hold of them what ever. If they are carrying cutters that can get through expensive locks and chains and they have vans waiting then what can u do? Mine are insured so at least I can get a replacement if nicked.

Would be hesitant about storing in the house – if thiefs know I have a few grands worth of bikes to nick then I don't want them to attempt to break into my house when I'm out – or worse still when I'm out and the missus is in!

I remeber whem my dad was taken into hospital for tests and a biopsy on his kidney and the feeling was crap. He was lucky and given the all clear – I can't imagine what you guys must be feeling after the news

I would have to say Penmanchno

Did it for the first time on sunday, and was really impressed.
Less fire road climbs than CYB. Trail reminded me more of Afan – less compacted than CYB and llandegla more natural. Last 2 decents are wicked

No trail centre – just a car park (and donation box) but this is a good thing as the trail was way quieter than others

I can't believe that Squash didn't get in and that golf and rugby 7's did.

I've been playing squash for years and seen it slowly decline in the uk – even though we have some of the best players in the world. It is a sport like this that can appeal to everyone that surely should have got the vote.

This would have injected some cash/life blood into the game towards 2016. There are way too many niche sports in the olympics now and sports with loads of different categories that have pushed the likes of squash out.

    ffs – pistol shooting etc???

Local trails round Burton area where I ride have suffered alot from the weather. Although these are also used by horses and they have mashed up the ground to a bog in certain areas

Not seen the condition of the trails round catton pk – but they will have had the same amount of rain on them.
The local forcast is for good weather all weekend, but as it is SITS it is bound to rain at some point 😛

I have encountered walkers on Follow the dog at Cannock and the last section of the Black at llandegla (the section just after the bridge)

I only spoke to the ones at llandegla as I near wiped myself and thier dog out as I was coming over on of the jumps. – At the time was well p***ed off as it could have been a bad accident. They were not aware that it was an MTB trail.

As you mention above – they do have a right to way where ever they want to. The only thing that would say is that they are putting themselves and riders at risk of an accident.

Nothing saturday as the weather looks crap

Tarw trail is mostly the old Red Bull trail. Starts at the new centre then under the road and past the old centre.
The Beast starts at the new centre and has parts of the old Karrimor, if not all of it. It also follows the Dragons Back trail for some of the sections.

Tarw is about 20kms so should be good to get the legs warm before the Beast.
If the weather is crap or you don't fancy the long fireroad climb on the beast – as others have said – stay on the road after the cafe to the start of the singletrack.

Do the Tarw trail as a warm up then back to the centre, top up with water and then do the beast. 60kms for the day – worth the trip then

The trails over the old side are still like the ones you would remember years ago. The trails on the Beast have changed abit from the old Karrimor – some would say sanitised, others would say made more flowing/resistant to errosion – you decide.

They can't make you car share, but as the government is taxing companies on car prking space, they could cut the number of spaces by half.

Another scheme that our company has introduced is discount car parking off site and a free shuttle bus to work. It won't work in rural cheshire but it has cut the number of people choosing to drive to the office.

I would car share but I work from home, straight to site, and I'm on call – so the person in the car would have to be flexible on where they ended up in the morning 😀

I'm currently using the 20mm thule adaptor (yes it is just a ali tube) with my rs lyriks. I've had no probs getting the maxle through and it is very secure

However the ali tube has scratched loads of paint off the forks around where they mount.
I was thinking of getting one of those fork up devices – as once the 20mm tube is fitted to the carrier it is a pain to change it back to the standard qr for my hardtail.

I think I’m going to invest in some impact type shorts – did the same in March this year. Came off a rail straight onto my hip – it still gives me some grief in the mornings 3/4months on.

Helmets – also going to invest in one this year. I think its the biking, but after 20 years of snow holidays with no problems (skiing and snowboarding – snowparks included) I just don’t want to risk it any more.

    no holidays booked yet.
me and the missus are in not in agreement over another Ibiza trip (aparently I’m too old for it now!!!!)

Couple of biking weekend on the cards but nothing firm yet – mates partners (and mine) are all moaning about how much time we are out biking
