Trek can supply the rear end only, and crash replacement is often discounted. Trek's warranty guys are usually really good.

Thats good news – going to get onto my LBS tomorrow morning to see what the options are. Again was my fault so don't mind paying, just feel bad binning a bike

As above, I'll never fly ba again, so that's another customer gone.
On a different note, who pays the wages fir the staff that are on strike. I know that I couldn't go without pay for 20 days and still pay the mortgage

I take it someone like the tech guys at pc world would be ok? Or would that be like taking your bike to halfords?

Having been on the other side of the wall as a neighbour I can say that it is a massive pain in the arse. Our neighbour started at 14 – hes now 19 and quite good.

We put up with it for a bit, but as the missus works nights it was getting a bit of a problem. We did speak to his parents and they made sure he played it when we were out.

It all came to a head when they asked if they could have a band practice one friday night – we arranged to be out, but they were so loud that someone from another street came round and asked them to be quiet (think the police were called also!).

Since then they use a rehearsal room and the band have got quite good (gigs all over the place). He only plays his acoustic at home now and we hardly hear it. If he wants to get good – rehersal room for electric and band, acoustic for technique at home

Was at cannock yesterday evening – it was very busy!!
Past a few people and said hello to them all – so hopefully it wasn't me

Think the climbing on the trail has caught a few people out who are just used to pottering round the dog – there was alot of people off pushing

Good work to the trail builders – just need some no skidding signs – got behind a chap that locked up before every corner/potential jump – knackering the trail up and covering me with dust – still didn't bother me too much (although I didn't say hi tho him after I passed) 😉

Just back from the Monkey trail this evening.
First time I've riden it, and it is v good. Some proper climbs, some flowing descents and the black rock garden section is good – but more of it would be nice 😉

Agree about some of the surface breaking up – but its gonna be popular, so I'd be up to help chase trails maintain it on the odd sunday – they have done a great job

Big crash near the BV visitors centre on the last section – Paramedics were on site, hopefully the guy will be ok and be back riding soon – well done to his mates, then closed off the section and were making sure he was ok.

I've had a look at a few of the closed sections and look forward to riding them – they are looking good (especially the section near Stile Cop – M8 section)

We're giving this weekend the miss – as it will be rammed. Going to go Wed evening instead

    Amazed that nobody's posted this.

It's fairly easy, just follow the colour coding:
    Red to red,
    Black to black,
    Blue to bits.

Thats part of the problem – the colours have changed

    Old Colour New Colour
    Red = Brown (or L1)
    Yellow = Black (or L2)
    Blue = Grey (or L3)
    Black (N) = Blue (still N)
    Earth is still green/yellow

Yes – blue to bits is prob what will happen 😆

Build him a hardtail with an on-one 456 summer season frame – its £145 for the frame.
Slack angles for downs – and he's young and not on the beer, so fitness will get him up the hills

I love Ladybower – but wouldn't go on a bank holiday due to the amount of traffic – cars on the way there and walkers about.

As mentioned above when we do go we go early and get back before midday.
However you do meet some strange people who want to park as close as possible. We got back after a ride, as we were loading our bikes up a bloke blocked the road waiting for us to go, then tooted his horn at us.
When I walked over to him and explained we were going to get a drink and a snack and weren't going he gave me a load of f's – cock

Thats my problem – Being a bank holiday (and with today being a wash out) there will be tons of walkers about. Thats why I was thinking a trail centre or similar – at least we're all going in the same direction 😀

BA is at the mercy of market forces no?

Agree. While I feel sorry that the staff are facing the prospect of change, they need make the company still attractive to customers to keep the company in business.

No business = No jobs. Its happened to other UK companies, and the governement has already showed that its doesn't care about UK based companies going to the dog (Rover)

I am one person that can't trust what will happen at BA in the future and have taken my money elsewhere for my flights to New Zealand.
My company has also issued instructions to use alternative airlines for its business travel – may only be a small number of BA's customers, but if other companies are going this way………

    Agree – Great thread

This is one of our older Substation building
It is in Selly Oak and used to be a pumping station. It now houses 2 sections of GEC 11kV switchgear

There is still an air raid siren in the roof space

I like Clay Mills pumping station in Burton
One of the 2 engine houses has been restored and steams certain times in the year – (next steaming is 4th and 5th april)

Also – working in the electricty industry, we have some great building/former power stations that are great to have a look round

EDIT – if the picture link doesn't work, check out thier website

That must have been a nasty crash to dint the top tub like that. Got a remedy myself – will keep it as far away from trees as possible 😉

edit – hope you get some luck on the insurance claim

2nd edit – replace it with a spicy?

I'm currently using an combo of 2 561's and 2 591's on top of my car.
I also have a Remedy (xl in size) and have had no probs mounting the bike to either carrier.

The one problem is by turning the quick release fork mount into a 20mm mount you lose the locking facility, so buy a seperate lock if going down this route.
The second prob is that it isn't quick to swap the 20mm mount back after it is changed. CRC do one of these –

    Fork up

but no idea if it is any good.
Also not tried the Pendle carrier, so I can't comment on it.

Well its made by Cane Creek.
I've had a look on their website and found the bottom half of the headset, but it looks like their shop is in the US.

Have copied the description (1.5" ZeroStack)into google, with not much luck.
I have seen this on chainreaction, but not sure it will be ok –

    chain reaction linky

    Yep

I wasn't impressed by them. They were washed in machine without detergent but never seem very good after about a month of use. Now gone at the seems

Now trying some Endura superlights as a replacement

    Got a 09 Titanium x that has done 26k
Been the best car I have owned so far. Apart from a couple of trim issues (there is a spot weld mod in the B pillar that is covered by a non recall warranty fix)

I tested a mazda 6 and I went for the Mondeo because I got more kit as Standard.
The Zetec is a sound choice – I'm still alittle sceptical of the keyless ignition and locking – a few work college have had probles with the fob not being recognised.

One thing – fuel consuption is not as good as m previous car – Got around 48mpg from a cdti vectra – same journeys in the mondeo come in at around 42mpg

edit – also great for biking – 4 6ft plus blokes, 4 bikes on the roof and all our stuff in the boot and there is still loads of room

Unfortunately, this is the reason that the rest of us have to mess around with getting Part P certification when we do anything to our own properties despite being more than adequately qualified (ie electrical engineers who have to pay an electrician to put a shower in).

Very true quote – but rules are rules I suppose.
I am and electrical engineer and have recently re-commissioned 2 132kV -11kV grid transformers and I am currently testing most of the protection on the 11KV ccts feeding B'ham city centre – yet after I replaced my wylex fuse board for an RCB prtected one – I need a spark to check out what I done 😉

Bit too late on this thread – but as 49er says

DO this properly – As mentioned above, a melted cable, if not properly protected at the consumer unit could lead to a fire – which insurance will prob not cover.

especially since there arent many in car options, and new cars dont come with DAB either. the goverment is looking at making it mandatory for them to install a DAB radio in new cars.

My Ford Mondeo came with DAB

Most new cars today only come with a DAB radio as an expensive extra

Again it was standard on the spec Mondeo I got – just upgraded to have a USB port in the glove box.

Had a hire car without DAB and USB and drove round with no radio on at all – No other stations worth listening to and most of my music on on my Ipod

    I agree with freddyg

I have a DAB radio in my car and 6music is the only station I listen to. The same can be said at home.

I have lost count of the number of new bands/artists whos music I have bought from listening to them on 6music. Yes Zane Lowe's show on R1 is good and certain stuff on R2 is ok – but the majority of the music caters for either 16year old(R1) or 50 year olds(R2) until the evening time.

Not sure what I listen to now – local radio is pish – glad I got a usb Ipod connection in the car

    Hi – 6ft 4ins

    Currently riding –

    XL (21.5") Trek Remedy 8
    20.5" Genesis Altitude 10

Both bikes look big to the small people, but feel just right when I'm riding them!
PS – both have proper wheels 😉

Well there is only one Vulcan left flying and no Victors to re-fuel them.
My Uncle was part of the re-fueling team during the build up to, and during the war. The effort that went into getting them over there was massive.
Just done as a PR stunt, and a "look what we can do" to the argies.

(Until one landed in Rio with an American weapon attached to one of the external pods – then they just looked slightly embarrassed)

Lets just park one of our subs off the coast – that will scare them! 😉

    Do it your self?

Just done mine today – ordered some bearings from simply bearings.co.uk – £5 delivered.
Took me under an hour to strip down, clean, re-grease and put it back together.

+1 for the best winter gloves I've owned
Sadly they died on todays snowy ride – had them for 3years now so mustn't grumble!!

When are they going to be selling them again?
