I wouldn’t recommend the Disco sport unless you like visiting the dealers on a regular basis.
Had mine 7 months (HSE auto with 2.0d inginum) and it has been in 6 times. for the following problems –
– Rear electric window stopped working
– Rattle from the engine bay which turned out to be broken plastic clips that held something in place
– Faulty rear tail light
– Internal B pillar rattle which had to go to a body shop to have the roof lining removed and the B pillar re-welded.
– Engine vibration at 1600rpm. This required the exhaust system to be removed and damper fitted. On top of the following problems the auto box is slow to respond, it has had 2 software updates.
When its not in the garage its a nice place to sit, and its ok to drive. Fuel economy has been acceptable for a 4wd. I get about 45-50 on the motorway, but it drops drastically round town to 30mpg.
I have it for another 18 months, as it is a company car. I won’t be getting another one.

jumping_fleaFree MemberWyndley Leisure centre in Sutton Coldfield is good. Bit out of the centre of Brum, but no further than Solihull. Has 2 x 25m pools. One is a leisure pool the other is split into 6 lanes. I used to go as it opened at 6.30am, so could get a good swim and be in B’ham centre for 8am
jumping_fleaFree MemberNot a bulb replacement, but I’m currently replacing my Halogen spots for LED’s.
I’m using these –
3w ones in the bathroom and 6 watt ones in the kitchen. Will save electricity on the 20 50watt halogens I currently have
jumping_fleaFree MemberOn a second look at the picture, it looks like they have looped next doors supply out of your cut out. Standard practice a few years ago, but may be a point to make to get a discount.

That would be chargeable to move. The dno cutout (black thing at the bottem) would need repositioning, so would require a hole outside, and a sub service straight joint with a new piece of plastic cable to a new cutout at the meter position.
Good idea getting it re wired as it looks a mess – but then I’ve seen much worse. As for safety/position you could try to get some cost deducted, but it’s doubtful.
Tom
jumping_fleaFree MemberHow do you expect them to move the meter without doing anything to the ‘inlet’ cable?
The incoming cable will have a cutout on the end of it. This is the end of the DNO’s equipment. From the cut out there will be tails to the meter (or an isolator then the meter). If its just a meter move then the meter fixer will isolate via the cut out fuse and extend the tails to the new position.
FYI I design similar things to this but for gas. If I understand what you’re saying correctly, then we’d normally have a small standard charge for moving your meter and then carry out the other work required at our cost.
Agreed – same in the electricity industry, except if the move is significant or the supply is to be upgraded at the request of the customer.
Or,if there are no seals on the cutout, maybe it could be done without any supplier involvement, then tell them afterwards that there isnt a seal on your cutout. Completely against the suppliers rules, but it happens every day.
Yep, most sparkies will do this.
jumping_fleaFree MemberYes, if e.on are your appointed supplier speak to them.
If you explain it’s a small move, they should just quote a set fee and send someone round once they receive payment. If you start to tell them it’s vomplicated they may send someone round to check first.
Stick with simple move – should get sorted
jumping_fleaFree MemberTwo flats can easily share the same phase. loads of propeties currently fed in these arrangement especially as you have mentioned you have a gas supply as well. Slightly different if you have electric heating
jumping_fleaFree MemberIs there a cut out on the meter board?
It’s worth talking to the meter supplier. It sounds like the main incomes does not need moving and the meter supplier can just extend the tails for a set fee. However, if there is a sub main then the DNO will need to get involved.
As for the need to dig up the road and uprate the existing supply ( disclaimer -I havnt sent he whole job) then I would say that this is not required. If the DNO need to uprate this (to bring it up to current design spec) then they should pick up the cost and you just pay for the sub main to be moved
Again -not seeing the whole job, it’s difficult explaining – just don’t pay what they are asking until you have asked the meter operator
jumping_fleaFree MemberCan you take a picture of the installation and put in on here?
Prices based on the description seem right if that’s the work that is required. If they are upgrading the supply to 3ph due to it not meeting their current design spec then you could ask them to pick up the network improvement cost and you just pay for the repositioning. Need a picture to judge.
You can get other companies to quote for the constable works. All the works can be done by another company except for the final connection to the LV main. However, in my experience this rarely works out cheaper unless, for example, you live in the countryside and can dig the cable trench yourself (as long as it’s in private ground).
There are deals to be done if you push them
jumping_fleaFree MemberThere should be one cable coming out of the wall
It should contain a Brown core (Live) a Blue core with a Brown tube (switched live) and a bare earth that requires some yellow/green sleeve.
The only exception is where the fitting is looped (in a ceiling rose)
Get someone in
EDIT – seen your updated photo – that is not right at all – get a proper sparky in
jumping_fleaFree MemberWhen we brought our first home (1900 semi) the survey missed lots of obvious stuff. (we also found some hidden horrors whilst doing the place up)
Next house purchase we still had a home buyers survey, but we had spotted all of the stuff that was highlighted anyway – we just had a bit more experience and spent less time falling in love with the property and more time checking every area of the house
jumping_fleaFree MemberThe home buyer survey? Only if it was totally obvious – its just a non intrusive look round by a bloke with a tick list in my experience
jumping_fleaFree MemberMight be a bit expensive, but I’ve been getting my lads these to replace some old dewalt stuff –
jumping_fleaFree MemberI live locally and use it for night riding and winter rides when the local trails are all mushed up.
It is badged as a blue trail, but it is just a family orientated route, with some switchbacks and small table tops in places. as mentioned above the surface is gravel all weather – last timer I was there I rode it on my cross bike.
If you are not too far away and want to bring the family they do bike hire and the cafe has great food. Sue makes the best cakes!
jumping_fleaFree MemberIm 6ft 3 and ride a large. Long seat post but like it that way.
With regard to if anything goes wrong, yes it can be a pain dealing with a service centre, but I had a cracked Trek Remedy frame that took 6 weeks to sort through an LBS, so you take your chances I suppose. Luckily I’ve not had any issues that I couldn’t sort myself (just replaced bearings)
jumping_fleaFree MemberI have recently changed all the bearings in my suspension of my Nerve XC9. All the bearings were standard sealed radial bearings that I matched from the stamped code.
The main “Radial Pivot” bearing (as advertised on canyon website) was a spherical type bearing – again just matched the code stamped on the bearing.
I did contact Canyon before removing the spherical type bearing, just incase they were a special order and they were quick to reply and offered to supply the bearings, so can’t really fault them.
Not changed headset yet, but ask for cost as see what they say. I would be suprised if you can’t get the LBS to remove it and fit something similar, can’t be that far away from standard
jumping_fleaFree MemberAs mentioned above get a sparky in to look at this.
He will look at anticipated load, cable length and earthing and work out your requirements from there. You will be looking at installing an underground SWA cable. CSA will be determined by volt drop over cable run and your spark will advise. To keep cost down you can buy the recommended cable and install it and the spark will do final connection/tesing/cert.
Only safe recommendation IMHO
jumping_fleaFree MemberVW are currently rubbish on build times –
Ordered a Passat Estate Sport in Jan and I am still waiting delivery at the moment. Have been told it is built and on the way to the UK, should be here first week in June. However I was told at order it would be ready in March, then it moved to April, then May…
Had I know this I would have gone for the XC60 I was tempted by, couple of work mates have got there’s already. Crap
jumping_fleaFree MemberGiant TCR here. I’m 6ft4 and ride a large. Feels nice, the XL was too long for my liking.
jumping_fleaFree MemberNot ridden there, but live local.
The local trails round here are very very muddy (ie pedal downhill just to move muddy). Catton will be no different.
I’ve mainly been on the road bike of late, but I am riding Solo on Sun. Will ride down on sat to see what its like.
jumping_fleaFree MemberIt’s an expensive Chinese version of a Ford. Hmmm. Great.
Well, the Passat is still in the running, just thought it looked a different alternative.
Expensive – yes, but they must be offering the lease company good deals, as they would normally be out of my price range.
you might get laughed at when stuck in the snow in a 2wd version of a 4×4
Very true – but the 4wd puts it in audi a6 estate price range, and I would go for the a6
jumping_fleaFree MemberVampires seem to like them.
Vampires?? Does that mean I’ll be safe in one?
jumping_fleaFree Member@boblo – yep its the new Passat. I quite like it (hence the order). Couldn’t fault the mondeo thats on its way back, just fancied a change and the fuel economy from the 2.0l 140hp diesel will save me a few quid. Similar models take a step down to a 1.6d to get close fuel consumption
jumping_fleaFree MemberI’ve just ordered one of these to replace my Mondeo
I was looking at the VW 4×4 pick up but the fuel costs for 600 miles a week put me off
jumping_fleaFree Member32 days + All public/bank holidays with the option to take TOIL instead of paid overtime if i want more, which I don’t.
jumping_fleaFree MemberI’ve had a new frame under the accidental damage cover on my insurance. As above, whats the point in insurance if you don’t use it?
jumping_fleaFree MemberLloyds Cycles in Swadlincote for my vote.
They organise rides, get new people involved and will sort out your bike out ASAP at very good prices.jumping_fleaFree MemberElbow at Terminal 5 in NYC! We’re over there for our 1st wedding aniversary
jumping_fleaFree MemberMy Remedy 8 in Scotland. However it has not been ridden since I got my Canyon XC9. Unless I get an Alps trip sorted I think it may go into the classified section
jumping_fleaFree MemberOh and remember to get bikes IN to NZ they have to be spotlessly clean, not a hint of mud/dirt, basically showroom condition or you will never get past customs!
Very true – they need to seem like new.
My mate lived over here for a couple of years and then moved back to Auckland. He brought a Giant Anthem over here and then shipped it back home – it spent months in customs due to being ridden and having UK dirt on it
Hiring may be an easier option
jumping_fleaFree MemberThought apart from Louis being on it was a good show.
The last bit, as said above, was very good. Good luck ladsjumping_fleaFree MemberI think they may have clocked the error.
Just tried to order some A frame goggles, the price was 65quid but when I tried to check out the price doubled.
😕jumping_fleaFree MemberGreat thread
I’m sitting in the control room of my company’s biggest substation at the minute. It used to be a power station that was one of the first to supply power to Birmingham.
I’ll go and start taking pictures
jumping_fleaFree MemberI took delivery of a Nerve XC9 a couple of weeks ago.
I am 6ft3 ish and went for the 20inch (Large). I think I went for the right size, have riden it round Cannock, Rivi, local stuff and although I run the seat post at about 320mm it feels great. Wouldn’t want a bigger bike, as it feels nice an nibble in a large.
The only thing I may change is the Monkey bar. It is a low rise one, and I have been used to riding high rise ones, although I am warming to it.
jumping_fleaFree MemberI’ve got the Nerve XC9. Took delivery a couple of weeks ago and have to say it is great. I have been round my local stuff and up to Rivi pike and it is fast on both the ups and downs.
TBH, the Nerve XC has a 69 degree head angle, but it felt balanced on the fast descent off the back of Winter hill and everywhere else we went. When riding the the HA doesn’t feel like it is as steep as the figures on the website make out.
I’ve got a Trek Remedy and I was thinking of keeping it, but I think unless I start doing some of the gravity enduro series, the only bike I need for 90pc of my riding is the Canyon
