My mother was terminally ill in last stage Alzheimers for over 7 years. We withdrew water from my mother when she could no longer process it. It took 11 days for her to pass away. You would not treat an animal this way.

My very elderly mother in law (Alzheimers) received some of the poorest care you could imagine in multiple hospitals. Day after day either they did not give pain meds leaving her screaming in pain or left her out of bed sitting in her own mess. Her quality of life was zero and you would not treat an animal in this way.

For the former I would vote for euthanasia rather than just withdrawing water. For the latter the system is completely screwed up and needs fixing.

Did the old fork have pre-2008 studs in? Maybe compare the stud lengths.

I had a completely new experience on the ring road round Oxford. A guy pulled in to the clear outside lane in front of me with 2 miles to go and then proceeded to move at the speed of the inside lane so he kept his space in the inside lane. So the outside lane was jam packed behind me and completely clear in front of him. I just laughed at the total preciousness of it all.

Are you really saying “give it to them” at the beginning of the clip?

You have a bunch of animals together in close proximity (one of which is yours) and you think that this is a good strategy? Do you understand that people have been killed crossing cow fields with dogs. Please be safe.

How do you feel your dealer handled the claim as its them you have the warranty with?

I have had a good relationship with them for a long time and they have acted in a normal fashion here. Trek will charge them for the parts and they will pass this on to me.

I don’t have anything to complain about. I knew before I asked that ovalised bolt holes can be caused by waiting too long to change the bearings. I just feel a little empty that Trek could have done a better job on the price and accuracy of the parts for a loyal customer.

Long term PT user and changed to Stages about 18 months ago. I have 2 Stages. One has been replaced due to battery drain issue. I have seen the battery drain quickly on the other at times. My observations:

    1. check the battery cover. Twice I have found that there is a tab broken which I did not notice. Once replaced the current battery drain issue resolved
    2. like richP I think that these powermeters are sensitive to humidity, but you can always read about someone who keeps their bike in the airing cupboard who still had battery issues.
    3. with the current firmware and low humidity both my Stages have no battery issues

Both my Stages give very consistent readings and are also consistent with my previous long term PT’s .

Regarding comparing power and TT times with other people. I just don’t think this is a good indication of inaccuracy one way or another as the it depends on so many factors.

Be careful as you may get more than a fine. My neighbour got an immediate blanket tree protection order on their whole property after they cut down a pine tree without permission. If in doubt then I would leave it alone or planning application to work on protected tree.

BBAR is still the big goal for UK time trailers as it was when I was originally racing on the road. If it is then you need a 12 and a 24 result to win it.

    BBAR for men is 10, 25, 50. 100, 12 hour. No 24 required.

    Still very much going.

I am not sure that the nhs as a whole is broken, but having experienced a failing hospital where basic processes such as pain relief provision are broken then there is definitely some serious problems. Negligence was common, lies the default and continuity of care non existent. I would not put my dog in there.

Loads of fallow and roe around the Chilterns. Most large estates having stalking businesses if you are into that kind of thing. I am sure they would let you help them skin them too if you asked.

    Hi

I have it though not severely. Many years ago when I raced hardtail (90’s) I suffered terribly to the point of having to get off mid race and stretch. Then Marin started the full suspension thing and I found it really helped.

In the last 3 years due to a different injury I found a physio who pointed me in the right direction in sorting out my pelvic tilt through posture correction exercises. This has massively helped and I now ride a hardtail with no problems.

    Good luck

Best thing for clearing fresh snow is a powerful back pack blower. This is what we use after trying all sorts of tools / techniques. You need head to toe waterproofs though and to get in there while it is fresh. Works brilliantly even for deep stuff.

Edit – not me above blowing it on to other peoples property!

they are soaking wet like they are in my garden I cant imagine them actually moving.

If you ever get the chance to use one of the more powerful back pack blowers then you will see that there is a massive difference in capabilities to the handhelds. Wet leaves are no problem at all – we use ours for removing wet mud from walkways let alone leaves. I could not live without our Stihl back pack on our farm. It is one of the most useful bit of kits.

Multiple iPhones, iPad and MB Air. Couple of the phones and the MB Air have had to be replaced or repaired under warranty. The MB Air has just broken again.

I think it is quite telling that the MB Air is not returned with Mavericks or Yosemite on it from Apple service. I hope they learn from these major releases.

So I think while the Apple stuff works it is nice to use. But the hardware quality is poor. I would not expect this to change as margin on hardware is what Apple is all about.

A few of our cycling club got into duathlons a couple of years ago. They ended up representing GB at the both the age categorised European and World Championships. They had a great adventure doing it and it was inspiring to see them do it. I think they positioned very high as well. It looked like a really good and fun thing to do.

I can’t see a horse doctor coming out on a cold evening for £50…

Yes I was referring to horse vets. Small animal home visit out of hours is hundreds. Nothing like that for horse vet out of hours visit. Done lots of both sadly.

Small animals out of hour vet is a complete rip off. Compare it to large animals out of hours call out it usually is 4 or 5 times the price.

With Jack Russells it is all about the parents and the training. My wife’s JR was a brilliant dog who quite happily would go out with my wife riding. She was a happy yard dog, never attacked another dog and just was all round brilliant. She never yapped in all the time we had her. We sadly lost her in Feb after 14 amazing years.

Her daughter (my dog) was a really nice dog, very friendly and puppy-like all her life. She was a bit more yappy at strangers coming to the house which I am guessing came from the dad. We were devastated to lose her 3 months after we lost her mother.

Both dogs were fine around children. I think it is a fair comment to say really good JR’s are tricky to find.

I had a Bosch dishwasher out of warranty that did exactly this. Firstly make sure the tray underneath the washer is empty – you can tilt the washer, but get ready for the deluge. If you are lucky it could just be this causing water to get in the electrics underneath (I think its the heater).

In my case it wasn’t and I thought that I would pay for Bosch service engineer. It was a fiasco really. Several visits all replacing different bits all to no avail. In the end I complained so much that they sold me a new one half price.

That may well be the most retarded thing I’ve read for a while

Given we are writing on STW and some of the recent threads that is bad news.I explained why I stopped watching – the comparable PRE that I perceived – and you said my explanation was retarded. Doesn’t seem as bad as some to me.

    No.

DOC owed by occupiers is specifically dealt with by the 57 act, including the nature and extent of warnings provided to visitors by occupiers. If the warning is sufficient to keep the visitor reasonably safe, the DOC is discharged.

Are you saying that you do need signs about barbed wire boundary? This isn’t my experience. Electric fence which is difficult to identify certainly.

    jumble

In the absence of signs and from your description of the location, you’d have at least the foundations for a tort claim if you were to suffer harm as a result.

Duty of care does not mean you have to put warning signs around every bit of boundary fencing you put up in case someone pricks their finger on it. Climbing over barbed wire is a perceivable risk.

Also as a land owner you cannot get around duty of care.

3 years ago I virtually stopped riding due to upper back pain which then would propagate into neck agony so bad at the end of a ride I could not lift up my head. It crept up on me. First on my TT bike, then road bike and lastly on mtb bike. I saw several different physios and bike fitters. I am now near fully recovered. Here is what I learnt..

    – when you wife mentions to you that you have a “hump” developing on your shoulders, don’t get hissy and ignore them. She is probably right and don’t delay
    – bike fit can be used as a temporary measure to relieve symptoms such as using a shorter stem etc, but it is not the solution long term
    – bad posture during work time creeps up on your muscles over the years leading to poor range of movement and complete incapability to trigger. I had not noticed that I could not touch my hand above my head even though I was race fit and work outside
    – jumping into “the next super exercise” such as pull ups or the video above just does not sort the issue out and typically causes more problems as you do not understand the real issue
    – fixing muscles when they get into this bad state takes a long time. It took 8 months of the tiniest/easiest exercises
    – bad posture and muscle degradation can be fixed. My hump is gone, I can TT and road in aggressive positions again

Go see a physio and keep looking until you find someone who understands the problem.

    Good luck 🙂

Jumble do you ride in the Pro Tour then? I only ask as I’m wondering what relevance your racing has to Nibali’s?

No I don’t ride in the Pro Tour. Here is my logic…

I don’t know Nibali’s ftp or his power figures for that climb. But we can use Perceived Rate of Exertion to have an idea about how hard he is working. Nibali has the same energy systems I have and in the 3 races which I have been in with current Pro Tour riders they all rode a lot faster than me and all looked as bollox-ed as me at the end. So this makes me think PRE is a good scale for all of us.

So at the top of that climb he stuck his hand in his mouth and continued his climb. For me that puts him in the lower PRE scale whilst everyone else was in the higher scale from what I saw.

This makes we wonder why the difference.

That is my logic. Complete conjecture.

Do you mean you’ve never seen anyone beat Purito?

    Obviously not, no.

Generally crushing the field on a climb with mountain top finish and sticking your hand in your mouth for the last 50 metres you don’t see every day or in my case never. I’ll try it next race without the mountain top or the crushing bit and let you know how I get on.

I can’t see how cycling can sort itself out until they ban caught drug cheats from team management.

I stopped watching this year as soon as I saw Nibali crest the first top finish with his thumb in his mouth after destroying Purito who said he was on a good day. I have never seen anyone in a race (or chain gang) for that matter be able to do this. I don’t think I am alone in this.

Why couldn’t we use Fixmystreet for reporting PROW problems?

I have used it for this and eventually it got sorted.

We go along all our local connecting bridleways once a year with the hedge cutters. Takes a few hours, but I am sure people appreciate it. I also phone the neighbours and rope them in. People that use the paths are normally very happy to help in my experience.

    Every little helps.

UST is heavy in my experience with little extra protection. My Hutchinson Pythons UST from ages ago both split on the sidewall.

Being a Chiltern rider the best thing I learnt you can do is not to brake on any flinty bit. It’s the braking which slides the tyre across the sharp flint which slices it. I use RR snakeskin with no probs.

Farming families or families with big estates can all be a bit weird. Often the father won’t let go and relationships go bad with the children.

Hmm well the problem is if you give something to someone then die within 7 years inheritance tax is still due. The ‘other side’ of my family have an estate and it has been given to the eldest son. You do need to move out of the property though so it’s a proper transfer so the son lives in the main house whilst the father has moved to the gatehouse.

^^^ this. Sadly some fathers who have farmed the land don’t think that their place is in the gatehouse.

Enjoyed that. 17th in 2 lap for me. Treated it like a normal xc race, but made a bad decision to use a strange mix of isotonic and carb drink which gave me horrible stomach cramps all the way round.

Well done everyone. Nice to meet you njee20.

Had 2 of the top range Hypnos mattresses. Neither latest more than 5 years before they lost their shape. Also had memory foam.

By far the most comfortable bed in our experience is Jensen that we have now. Eye wateringly expensive, but just a brilliant balance of support and comfort. You can try them at John Lewis.

The Freelander 2 is very much like driving a van. They often have very few toys and the mpg is a bit ropey. I don’t mean “where’s my massage seat” re the toys, I mean no climate or cruise. Bizarre on a pricey modern car.

My FL2 is nothing like driving my van. It also has climate and cruise among lots of other modern car features. Sadly it is just built very poorly and LR feign ignorance of common issues.

Freelander 2 here. Nice car, but terrible quality.

    – rear diff went 3 weeks outside warranty. LR not interested
    – known steering rack fault – again LR not interested
    – door locks gone one by one
    – rear door lock gone twice

    I get 30-32 mpg max.

Nice to drive, comfortable and great offroad. Just waiting for the next big thing to go on it.
