I wouldn’t buy another Landcruiser. I had an automatic Colorado. Coolant got into the gearbox via the radiator and hosed the gearbox completely.  I went to the Isle of Wight and struggled to get back (no broken cars allowed on the small ferry) – hardly the Outback. This is a fairly common problem with the design. Maybe a manual won’t have the same issue? As a car for the farm it was ok until it wasn’t.

    Hi

The young Ukranian family from Kharkiv who stayed in our home for a year were always crystal clear that fighting the Russian invaders was the only option for their wider families and Ukrainians survival. I spoke with their parents who were still in Kharkiv and did not hear any counter view. They all hated the war – as anyone sane would. But they all understood Russia could never be trusted. I have seen terrible photos from field hospitals and countless videos of missiles/explosions.

This is just my experience of the Ukranian community in the uk.

I have a Strael 3 with Force AXS. I am very happy with it. I live in the Cotswolds and it’s perfect for the mix of roads found here. Previously had carbon race bikes.

It rides so nicely and is so comfortable that I really haven’t been bothered about weighing it.

I hope you enjoy your new bike when it eventually arrives.

We had a 2020 diesel inscription.

    good things:

    – amazing ride which convinced us to get it

    – front seats are most comfortable I’ve been in

    – loads of space for dogs etc

    bad things

    – too much tech

    – it’s huge, no coincidence we kept knocking in to things which has never happened in any other car

after a year we swapped to an xc60 with air suspension. We haven’t knocked in to anything since.

I have two Gigaclear access points. Been great. Watch out for cost after first year. Went from £17 a month to £40 odd.

I’m over 50 and went to my walk in vaccination centre this evening and was refused a booster. First the nurse said I had fraudulently written on my double vax record paper to jump the queue. I had to get copies of other peoples from the same surgery emailed to me to prove I didn’t and that the nurse had crossed out the pre printed date on all the cards. They repeatedly questioned why anyone but me would do this which I felt was a bit rude as I had pointed it out to them.

Then they told me my second jab was not on the computer. By this time they saw me as a wrong’un and told me to leave.

Through all this I was very polite and empathetic of them being at the end of a long day. But it left me unvaccinated.

I learnt one lesson to never use the term “I am not accusing you of anything” as it makes you immediately feel like they are.

Spoke to my friend in Texas this evening. Texas is historically red through and through. As it very slowly has more middle class areas and people moving in to Texas then there are counties which are blue, but it is a long way from the state changing. No surprise to see majority Trump support and nothing to worry about.

We are doing ”Lungeing, in-hand work and turn-out are good alternatives to ridden exercise.”. Basically a lot of high quality in hand work. No hacking and minimal ridden exercising.

Both us and the horses will survive this approach. Neither are getting fat(er) or lazy.

    Good luck with the move.

Gove on TV this morning said if you can delay it then delay it. It seems pretty obvious that an activity with so many people involved and a change of location is a big risk of transfer.

The Law Society has been useless on this. Doing the right thing puts you in breach of contract – madness.

I made exactly this decision on exactly that Mac book this week – I am typing this on the new Mac book which is great.

I went with John Lewis as the price was cheaper. I have bought apple products from JL and then taken them to the Apple store for manufacturer replacement previously with no issue. JL support is not good and I found my local authorised Apple repairer that JL send you to, to be a charlatan of the highest order.

I have found exactly the same with the psn winter jacket that I was just given at xmas. I have quite a bit of la Passione kit and found it to be a great fit before this jacket. I think it is designed to have glove cuffs under the jacket, but I haven’t tried this. I am wondering whether to just return it before I wear it.

It seems to me the mess was created by not applying for change of use. Now the officer has to unpick operations at the site or revoke any use.

I feel for the underresourced officer. At least they are trying. I don’t think they deserve a slap.

What would people suggest a good way to address 100 club riders turning up for Sunday morning cake?

I am a bit baffled by all the fuss locally I about Velolife. I read the planning officer report. In summary the owner did not get change of use consent for a cafe and ran it without planning. The officer on appeal said ok a cafe is a good thing for the local community, but using it for retail and group ride meeting point is not in their view reasonable change of use due to the context of the site.

    Why the pitchforks.

Just had 4 days of travellers on a recreation ground in Marlow. Unfortunately this group were incredibly anti-social, many break ins, blatantly stealing van signs to put on their vans, constant abuse, joy-riding in the rec, swapping licence plates in full view, groups egging and stonign cars in the streets.

If you report anti-social behaviour like this to the police then a 24 hour notice can be issued, but you have to report it. The volume of reports have to reach a certain threshold.

So if anyone says there is nothing you can do then it is basically bollox. You have to just keep reporting it which can be quite long winded.

You are spending money on something your daughter loves and wants to make a career of. What is the issue?

She could be on drugs, a goth etc.

I used to travel 3 to 4 day trips a week. Fly in, sort problems, fly out. Great people, great work. All business class, limos etc. 20 years after I stopped I still regularly have the same nightmare of going to the airport on the way back and there is no plane at my gate waiting for me. No joke here.

Don’t do it. Good luck if you do.

Thank you for all the replies and advice. There is no singletrack or fun riding to be had, just a flat paddock with well defined walkways which makes it so odd. Been here 50 odd years.

More specific detail on existing signs I guess.

I don’t know how someone’s mate above was at Cambridge with him. It must have been another jrm.

The jrm at Oxford was young and obnoxious. But he wasn’t alone in that.

Watch out. Had a Landcruiser. Good on the Farm and not bad on road. Auto gearbox oil is fed through radiator. When radiator fails it is bye bye auto box. I would not buy another.

I went through this recently for a large barn conversion. I had a lot of experience with landscaping software prior to trying to find a good house layout package. I tried various packages and ended up with using Home Design 3D iPad app as by far the best tool for quickly trying out different layouts. Obviously if you need to create drawings etc then you would need something richer.

Both our iPhone 5S’s do this and it is a known problem. It is not the battery but I think something to do the battery manager. Apple deny any problem. You can find the issue the Apple support forums and the same issue occurs with replacements. The problem gets worse over time in our experience.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I have been through a couple of probate processes including an estate with businesses. The one with businesses I did most of the work in the probate and estate administration process.

I can’t comment on the question you ask as there is so little detail about who owns the business, whether the business owns the property (or your mother) etc

    But this is my experiences:

    1. with multiple siblings my experience is that most of the work will fall on one sibling and be prepared that will consume huge amounts of their time for the next 2-3 years. The other siblings will have little idea of how much effort and stress is really required
    2. choose your professionals very carefully (both accountant and probate lawyer). Hopefully there will be no professional mentioned as an executor or trustee in a will. This would be a bad thing in my experience.
    3. most donkey work you can do yourself even for BPR. These are just tax forms. Don’t pay professional for stuff you can do as they will generally do a worse job.
    4. You do need to work out your IHT return strategy and this will require professional advice. 6 months will go very quickly. Financially this can make a life changing impact if down well depending on the details of the businesses.
    5. Never think that a professional must be kept even if they are mentioned in the will as a trustee. If they do a bad job just change them. Keeping a bad professional can cost a lot of money in the long wrong. There are some very good ones out there who provide very practical and cost effective advice

    Good luck

Regarding the Protinaholic book. There is a very long and detailed critique on it online that show huge inaccuracies in it content. The critique is a very long read.

In summary it is not a great piece of work.

I hurt mine last year. It took 6 months until no pain. I aggravated mine after 3 months by trying to do stuff too early which probably added a month.

Good luck with you recovery. Very painful and not a lot you can do about it.

Gains are not bobbins, but to assume somehow that coaches do not move teams and share all the techniques etc is just naive. So the marketing by BC that somehow the secret sauce stays in the GB camp over time is just that – marketing.

There was an interview on the bbc web site with a new GB coach who just moved from russia to france to GB. He basically said there is little difference and the knowledge whether it be technical or sports coaching is pretty much identical. He said what does matter is how much money is spent on logn term programmes, and this does change per team. Much like in business.

Regarding gearing for racing. I use single ring 36 setup and never find that I need more, in fact this year I may go 34. I am top half vets racer in the Wessex League. My team mate who is a regular podium placer uses a 34 single ring.

So if your 105 is compact then just buy a ring.

short lessons but regularly. Why isn’t this offered for biking?

The issue is demand not people offering it. I know a handful of people who I used to race with who offer mtb coaching in short sessions. They usually start by doing the BC qualification then offer their services to a club that they may or may not be involved in. Demand is not high and tends to be towards less experienced riders.

I’m asking why the STYLE of lessons is different…

I don’t think you can get away from the fact that the horse has a big role to play in this. Getting both horse and rider working is completely different to a cyclist.

One of the biggest mistakes amateurs in any sport make is getting something right once and leavng it at that – the pros will repeat it over and over until it’s second nature.

Not quite sure that I agree with this. Professionals or high level competitors are focused on what they need to practice to succeed in my experience. For example any horse very rarely has 3 good paces. It would be bonkers to spend your time on the pace which you know that your horse is a natural in. You will spend far more time on something you know that you need at the level you are at that your horse is not a natural in.
