Bugger – but I imagine all trails will be open on Saturday, may just be a little busy..
Too late to reschedule now anyway!

As Feeder sang: ” buY A house in Devon, devon devon”

Alternatively E/NE Cornwall, West Devon gets you the ability to ride at Gawton DH [they do have a great trail bike friendly trail there, HSD]or west Dartmoor and surf on the north Cornish Coast, any where from Polzeath up to Bude isn’t too much of a drive from Gawton.

Some good riding in the woods around Bodmin, which is only 15-20mins drive from Polzeath beach, but you’d need a local guide.

    Here’s my two pennies worth….
I agree with most people above, there are ways around this. I didn’t want to keep our BT at home during the day, so he comes to work with me in the van.
He gets 30-45 mins walk in the morning, comes for a wander into town to get a sandwhich at lunchtime and a good walk in the evening. Luckily, my wife and I work at the same company and sometime we can stagger our lunch hours to give him a decent midday walk too….
But what is interesting is that whenever I check on him in the van, he is always sleeping! Dogs do like a good old kip during the day.

Although if you can get some dog walking action in during the day he will be more tired in the evening!

Dartmoor team – when is next outing such as this? Looking forward to finally making a meet up.

That OTB hasn’t done much for the tech riding reputation of 29ers has it?!?!

    Great advice chaps!
I had a feeling that rim strips and sealant would work with std Advantages and was just a little thrown by the UST thing!

There’s the ‘Stinger’ at Newnham park sometime in February.
Entry and details are on the xcracer website currently.

I’d go longboard all the way, forget minimals, in my opinion they are a frustrating compromise between long and shortboard.
When I was starting out I took the predictable route of going for shorter and shorter boards, easier to get out back on using duckdiving, greater manouverability. But unless uber fit, it’s very tough to get into waves early enough, unless you are surfing multiple times a week! Ea;ry on, smaller boards mean fewer waves and less fun!

Using channels between breaks you can still get outback on a big board, unless it’s properly firing, but then it is possible. And on a small day a londboard will be a lot of fun. Leanring to turn a big board will teach you loads for when you do try a smaller board!

Can’t vouch for riding, but north of Agadir has some very good surfing. The fishing village of Taghazout is a good base to explore a few breaks from and is a short [1/2 hour max] bus ride north of Agadir.
It’s been a few years since I surfed there, but the main breaks are Anchor Point and Killer Point. Quite a few nice beaches along that strecth of coast, but can not remember any names.

    Cheers Stu/Chunky!

It’s ace, very versatile. Its sticking with my mates on their 6″ bikes on local steep woodsy trails, and is xc quick.

Will be having a bit of an XC test at what will probably be a very muddy ‘Soggy Bottom’ race at Newnham tomorrow.

Went Ghetto with some Mavic Crossrides, 20″ Schwalbeeee BMX tubes, JRA wheel milk and 2.25 Maxxis Advantages.
Worked well, once i’d sussed that my track pump wasn’t up to the job.
Used CO2 cartridges to inflate in the end. Worked well then

Am realising the 2.1 HR’s are shit. Was hoping to keep the weight done / have a slim tyre to cut through mud without having an out and out Mud tyre….thinking of putting a Bonty XR4 on the front and leaving the HR on the rear.

Graphics are Glow in the Dark too! Great on night rides.

Ha – Yes new grips a priority. Current ones are very grubbed and worn.
Off to sort tyres out now!

29 er rigid would keep it in tip top condition…swapping to the FS for commuting has started to degrade that now!

    29er rigid curious too.
I’m guessing at benefits, being low weight and directness. But please can you guys tell me why you love them?
Convince me enough and i’ll prob end up getting one next year!

Only been thre once, two new years ago, when the snow and ice were heavy on the ground. Felt it was slightly overhyped [could have been the conditions] but I though the last bit of the red, Beginning of the end or Final Hurrah or whatever it is called was flippin great….

I’m a very biased Border Terrier owner.
He bit the crap out of my wife and I through his 1st 4 months!. He is now 14 months and on the whole he is very loyal and great with our 2.5 year old niece and 1 year old nephew. He seems to know to take it easy with them and just sits down when they are near.

We both work, but he gets 2 – 3 30-40 min walks per day, probably 3 times a weeks one of those is a 45min jog and this certainly seems enough for him.

I also recommend puppy training classes for whatever type of dog you end up with.

Bought a Crank Brothers one from CRC cheap for my Rush. Iodine. Claims to be ‘DH’, but doesn’t seem overly portly.
Cups were tight as to fit, but all seems ell 1 month in….. looks lovely too. Fingers crossed.

The Stanton team put in a very respectable showing at Oktoberfest. Anyone know if they were riding Slacklines, or something with a more XC geometry?

1st off road ride in weeks tonight, been putting a new bike together, so tonight was the 1st outing – I wasn’t going to let the weather put me off.
So 3 off us headed out from Buckfastleigh, did our usual southern edge of Dartmoor loop, out to Dr Blackalls, back down the bridleway then singletrack, back to Hembury woods.

It pissed it down with no let up.
But it was great and the mud wasn’t cloggy, so the bike washed off with ease!
Oh yea and new bike was great, just as it should be!

Thanks , makes sense now. Have looked at the set of cable routing braze ons at top of down tube & still can’t see how any of them will work as an anchor for the cable outer…. But I have worked out how to make a cable end into an anchor by glueing it into a plastic ferrule.

    julioflo
    Free Member

This is the part the Rush manual prescribes.

CokeItUpAndWatchItSmoke thanks for offer, but there is no cable outer stop on the down tube, so as you can see from the pic, this plastic widget stops the cable….will try dr.cannondale and see if I can make something up that is a bit more robust….

    julioflo

Thanks Elfinsafety – do they work on a Rush? The Cable outer needs to be anchored though and it doesn’t look like that type of guide will not provide a proper/good seat for it?

Actually not very impressed by the cable routing for any of the cables. I have the plastic bushes that go in the clips on the frame, but it’s all a little bit saggy….do you have the same issues on a Rush?

Most days for commuting, unless it’s sunny, then my High vis jacket is just too hot.
Feel safer with it on, especially as the road I commute on is quite busy and a bit tight in places.

Here you go – not the best pic, but you can see how tight the 2.25 Advantages are in my Reba forks. There is at most 5mm clearance there and the tyres are a bit worn..

Are 2.35 HR’s and Minions much lower profile? Thinking of switching to some…
