Snaps – i’ve never descended that rock garden on Dartmoor that way. Always favoured the descent from Hound Tor, then riding [pushing] up through that bit….

Obligatory pic of Gylly having run riot at Godrevy should work this time!

Thanks for all tips on training. I think Gylly is on the large side for a Border Terrier, at 8 months old he weighs 10Kg+
Jogging training is coming 1st and no long runs until he is a year old.
But I do like the idea of taking him slowly up and down a short section of bridleway on the lead with a bike to get the training underway.

On the subject of trail centres, i’m not sure if I would ever want to take him to one. As good as he seems to be, he is a terrier and is always going to be distracted by other mammals! So it’s open dartmoor and local woods riding for him I think!

    Ok a couple a questions I have
We have a 7.5 month old Border terrier. Next month I intend to start taking him on short jogs
But eventually I would like him to be a trail dog. Judging on current experience he will have the stamina.
    so two quesions:
best way to train a dog for running with the bike
How best to manage them on lanes [lead options]

    Thanks!

We have a 7 month old Border Terrier, Gylly, he is awesome as you can see, so well done on selecting a Border T!
1st and 2nd night he cried quite a bit and for the 1st two night, yes we did give in a little bit. We didn’t spend any time with him in the night, just reassured him we were there. Come night 3 we decided it was time to toughen up and ignored him. The barking did stop. He now does not bark/cry at night at all. Ok he does bark if he hears something outside. So yes, be tough and do not spend time with them at night.

We left some of our clothes with him in his crate.

To be honest you biggest challeneg is going to be the biting of you she will do with her razor sharp teeth!

Happy to share border care tips if needed having just been through 7 months of Border growth!

It’s perfect. I like bikes like that, a perfect ‘smug bike’ Perfect for nailing a descent or rinsing someone on a 3k wonderbike and feeling smug.

Did it my Dialled PA a few weeks ago. Only did 1 run as was late in the day and had been ‘working up to it’, I minced down as was not sure what to expect, but it really isn’t as tech as you’d imagine and I imagine a few runs in you’d be flying. All of it is rollable, not need to do any jumps if you don’t want to.

Find it odd that I have been captivated by this, but am also asking myself ‘Am I a Mug?’ or is this sort of forum chat very powerful marketing…..because I have just bought a second hand Pitch frame to build up, it’s not even built yet and after reading this I am now thinking I ‘need’ / ‘would be better served by’ a Troof or a Bfe……even though we are discussing QC issues. Does anyone else suffering from bike pondering indecision such and this and is this just the nature of bike geekery?

Also as a Design Engineer, I agree with the better late and correct rather than on time and wrong mantra.

I like the sound of these also, but this will sound really petty – I just don’t like the Nukeproof logo? I think it is the font, I just think it looks a bit bargain….

Road bike and lower gearing for that sort of distance! [especially as your mates will be on ‘quick’ bikes]
Did it on an allez with a compact chainset a few years ago. We were carrying camelbacks and a large carradice seat post bag thing. Even with the lower gearing of a compact one of my mates had some knee problems.
My bro in law bought a 105 compact chainset with BB for £70-£80 from Merlin this week…..

Had no rides planned as approaching uni deadline. But…

…broke key off in van door while walking the dog with Mrs Julioflo near Venford reservior.

Only had wife’s small hardtail [with eggbeaters on] in back of van, so tentatively pootled home on that in me wellies, picked up spare key slipped on some roadie gear and ragged it back up to the van!

    An improptue hour of riding!

    Thanks for advice all.
Alex, I why you riding the ST4 more than the RC405?

Are meta’s really that prone to cracking? I rode a number of bikes around a car park yesterday [really fair test i know], MEta 5.5, trance x, fuel ex and zesty a- medium. I have to say that medium was fine on all bikes and the Meta felt like it wold be the most ‘fun’.

Just goes to show you have to try things out.

Drifting James, gawton is worth the trip. HSD is great super tavi really needs a massive bike and big balls. Where are you based?

Are there many RC405’s around 2nd hand though?

South Bank University [now London South Bank University] – Engineering Product Design. Graduated in 2001.
At the time it was a great course and turned me into a Design Engineer, managed to get half decent jobs too. The uni was ok, but if I could choose now, i’d go to a uni with either; more of a campus set up, or in a smaller city.
However, 9 years later I am a little tired of Design Engineering, I seek a more creative design role, so while still working full time I am studying an MA in ‘Design: Sustainable Futures’ at Plymouth University. So far my experience is very positive. Great new building and a lot of money recently invested in workshop facilities and a very good design teaching team. I must admit, the whole uni seems a very good place to be.

I have a Mk 1 PA and am Alpine curious also.
Anyone recall the weight of the Mk1 frame. As I occasioinally enter an enduro type race and like covering some miles [but also like my trips to Gawton and only want 1 bike] I keep thinking a lighter frame would be nice, but I want the angles of the Alpine…. At 5.5lbs for the current Alpine, it’s never going to be lighter than the Mk1 PA, or is it?
    Am I a confused individual?

Will get in touch when I know I have a day free at the weekend for a ride!

Asthma was getting worse around about 24, on recommendation of a slightly hippy friend I cut out dairy altogether and now Asthma is a think of the past.

Having lived in Buckfastleigh for 10 months now, I can say that: Property to rent or buy seems cheaper than Ashburton, has less traffic than Ashburton, has a better feel to it than blasting past on the A38 would lead you to believe, pretty good access to the moors, a few pubs, not enough free on road parking spaces, Kings wood has loads of potential for trails [just got to make some],there must be more to Hembury woods than I have found so far, 1/2 way between Plymouth and Exeter, 15 mins drive from totnes / on the junction that gets you down towards Kingsbridge

Have you tried looking at diet?
I cut out dairy completely [now I must admit to having the odd treat] but cutting out dairy has completely stopped any eczema or asthma that I used to suffer from.
Eczema + asthma seem to be affected by dairy intolerance.

    Yes Dartmoor is really crowded.
As for Exmoor and the Quantocks, they don't really exist, they are just figments of journalist's imaginations.

As Brown says, the news article says it is in the process of being dismantled today and placed into storage. A possible return at Haldon was hinted at?

Thanks for the advice guys. Was thinking Nylon 6, and have used PEEK before [but was worried about cost] but wanted to see if there is anything else I was missing. I hadn't realised GFN and a high glass content would make the threads brittle.

I'd recommend Polzeath. Good wave to learn on, the wave is generally a slower wave , therefore has long rolling whitewater that is good to learn on. Good surf school there too. Few decent pubs/bars and campsites. If you can get into Tristram campsite then you have done very well!

    Thanks Shinythings.
Would be good to explore some of these new loops, usually head out from BFL couple of times a week with a mate of mine who lives in BFL also, but just get suckered into riding Dr B and Hembury all the time!
Missed you this am, we headed east and rode Lustleigh Cleave, over to Grimspound, Hound Tor etc.
Let me know if/when you are heading out, we'll join you if we can. Emails in profile.
