bb7’s all the way. Well worth it especially if you factor in a couple of kinked or ripped out hoses versus replacing cables.

Larger is sh1t and makes you a communist. Real Ale makes you a nice guy.

Socialist real ale drinker here too. Do I get extra wierd points for French citizenship too?

And I only partially agree with point 7: unfortunately I have met some complete tools who drink real ale. Although the distribution of tools in pubs seems to be slanted heavily towards Magner’s, with a strong contingent in the lager section, there is unfortunately a noticable minority of socially inept or abhorrent folk in the real ale corner.

    Top list though.

    Blandford Fly, anyone?

The symptoms of needing a burp on mine were that the locout position was more like ‘traction control’ and the tc position was more like fully open. the Nice Man in lbs showed me this on mine:

take it off the bike. Empty both valves. then empty them again whilst opening the little ‘gates’, and a bit more air will seep out; i can’t rmember which way roun but no harm will come of doing all permutations (ie top valve/bottom gate etc.) Do all this a few times until nothing else comes out.

And then for goodness’ sake don’t pump it back up again until you have put it back on and set the traction control lever up properly and you have the shock fully open. Then and only then can you put any air in it.

Or ring the scot distributor: I did once and the bloke was way way helpful and talked me through the setup on over the phone.

…tou’d think George Lucxas would have some sort of registered trademark so he could stop that word being used on such a ridiculous looking bike!

Now, a Foes ‘Jedi’ dark red four inch 4x bike, that would be cool…

    £28k pay cut

omfg. I have been in the nhs for 10 years, manage a load of people, a load of money and a load of highly risky teenagers. And for me a 28k pay cut would mean me paying my nhs trust about a tenner a day for the right to come to work. Oh, make that £9.75 after this April’s joke of a pay rise actually.

I find it hard to sympathise too much really.

I’ve got the x-tools on above, and although it is tough and torques up silly tight, it feels pretty uncertain under 15NM (ie most bike bits these days) and for 5nm you may as well just guess. It feels more like an automotive one (just has an x-tools sticker over someone else’s) and if i bought another one I would spend a bit more on one with a lower range.

Anyone else got their first album. It was called “we care a lot” and came out on mordam records before the “introduce yourself” album. Its quite rare and yes I am being a bit smug [:-)]

Had the lp (and much other FNM vinyl) Sold it on ebay to fund bike purchases. I hardly played the first album it as a) it was so rare, and b) its not a fab record really is it? I loves Angel Dust the best.

some forums have a ‘new posts/threads since you last logged in’ thing. Would it be possible to do that just for new threads on the classifieds? that way you don’t wade through 6 pages of re-posts if you haven’t been in for a bit and people only post the once. Also editing your own classified threads and titles if you drop the price or sell some stuff from a clearout would also decrease the total number of threads started.

the thing that upsets the Jewish ‘authorities’ in the Jesus story is that he hangs around with ‘gentiles’ (people who aren’t Jewish). So although he would have been a brown man with a big nose the point was that he was happy to be mates with anyone regardless of their job, ancestral roots, faith or skin colour. I suppose that is the biggest thing that makes christianity different from Judaism.

A thing which all to many christians forget unfortunately.

the sram service guide is otherwise excellent but doesn’t really go into the motion control damper in any detail. (perhaps they would rather we bought new ones instead of repairing them?) -find peterpoddy on here and ask him: there used to be something about them on his website with lots of good pictures.

but i bet that agency relies more on you than you do on them.

quite possibly yes, and their staff like working on my ward more than most (buffs medals) but that sort of thing is probably down to my nhs trust as a whole as it would be terrible if it impacted on other wards/departments. I might raise it with my HR lady some time.

Thankyou everyone for your thoughts. Nothing else quite like STW during working hours for this sort of thing! :D

see if you can buy a knackered frame and then keep for spares or sell the bits you don’t want? They are easy enough to dismantle and the seatstay bearings aren’t too tricky to replace.

you might find the size of a fork is the problem: you can do royal mail ‘airsure’ to many european countries which is better traceked and insured but there is a limit to the dimensions and weight of the package.

wow, thanks for your quick responses.

…so this fee is ‘lawful’ and enforceable then? Is the implication of not paying it just that the agency refuses to supply staff to that organisation?

Yes we have come across some good nurses via this agency but then nhs jobs have to be externally advertised and interviews rigorously audited and ‘scored’. Its actually quite hard to just ‘give’ a job to someone you like these days as you have to be very clear about why you don’t give interviews or job offers as well as why you picked your favourite. The ‘comedically short application closing date’ is about the only trick we have left for getting someone in particular in. And even then they have to not make an arse of themselves at interview.

haha, depends on your local mud i think. you will hear lots of different opinions, i would go with those closest to where you actually ride. For example trailrakers clog up and are pretty hopeless round my neck of the woods but fabulous grip elsewhere and lots of folk on here really rate them. Probably the same for several other popular mud tyres too.

Not me either, but a few mental health jobs ago I did know a man who every few weeks would buy a pair of black 501’s (always black 501’s, mind…), do a , errrrm ‘sex wee’ in them and then take them back for a refund.

Please tell us how you stumbled upon this gem, r_r. It’s delightfully wrong. :-) Some kind of comedy googlewhack[/url]?

oooh, ages since we had a Dave Hinde thread, non? Some of that feedback in the link up there ^ is well bad. But i suppose its a wonder the cycle industry doesn’t have more dodgy dealers in it, when you think of how often you hear about horrendous trading/service in most other areas.

Also, ACI spokes seem fine. My mate has some xc wheels from merlin built with black double butted aci and they are well straight. Although that says far more about merlin than the components of their wheels.

both my pikes and my rebas (also motion control) make that noise when I am riding them ‘properly’ as opposed to slowly and gently. I think its just oil in the damping swishing around. I quite like it.

    For the record

    INSPECTOR ANDYWILSON

    smooth.

Assuming the fusion of our usernames is intentional, I refer you to my previous post: imho Daffy seems to just swap parts around like I do with records. Andyhilton could have done with a search of the ‘old’ forum and seen what a switch-tastic bike fiddler Daffy is before he got all conspiracy’d up. And its a shame Daffy thought people would be quick to judge him for selling them again on here for what he paid for them. Actually he is probably right. Perhaps he would have got a few irate questions, and this debate would be happen all over his classifieds thread instead. But I’m sure the wheels would have sold (i mean they are a bargain) and he would have explained himself as he has done here.

I am interested in the other folk on here that are doubtless lurking and not contributing to this discussion as they just don’t have the sort of explanations that you and Daffy have provided. Or they are just too busy hitting refresh on the classifieds.

Yes I am talking about you, man on black SC Nomad with white 66’s who when asked if he needed any help as you were walking down what could basically be described as a fireroad section of the red route, felt the need to sneeringly fob off my actual concern having thought you might have injured yourself with “I just haven’t ridden this bit before”.

lol… i think trail centres employ such people to cower on the side to make the rest of us feel all skilled and gnarly. There’s at least one every time!

But it’s just what you expect from some of the Daily Mail-esque numpties on here.

… i always thought the idea of selling your old kit to fellow stw-ers at a knockdown/mates rate price for the good of the sport was a bit more ‘Socialist Worker’ really.

‘Daily Mail’ style would surely be jumping in on a bargain ahead of someone that really needs it and then selling it to them later on at a profit.

Daffy posts that many delicious and ever-changing bikes on the aforementioned balcony that I’m sure a simple explanation of “errr, got bored with it/changed my plans” attached to his classifieds would satisfy most folk on here that he wasn’t profiteering. And save him all the ebay hassle, no?

For me the interest of this thread is about all the other folk not Daffy.

seems to me that “one” could avoid hassle, fees and *ahem* misunderstandings like this by just selling on stw – especially shortly after buying something cheap on here

[wooden spoon out]…you’d think so wouldn’t you?

If i didn’t want to use a bike I bought on here for a song, I suppose i could post it back on here for the same i paid for it plus postage. Or look back at the thread I bought it from and ask the other people that replied to it first. No ebay fees. No paypal fees if you do it ‘gifty’ style. Easier to list. The more i think about it the more i can’t understand why you would bother with ebay.

I believe this should be pointed out to the Admins and them allowed to make the decision –

I did that not so long ago. About someone with far more obvoius bargain-hunting and ebay-selling activity than Daffy. The admins responded very politely but didn’t really seem to mind. After a similar (but less name-and-shame-tastic iirc) thread to this one, the classifieds rules changed a bit. Nevertheless the stw-er I pointed out to the admins continues to buy stuff on here and continues to sell stuff on ebay. He did change his ebay name from sounding very similar to his stw one though. *waves*

i rebuilt my mate’s merlin 717 back wheel after poor maintenance related hub death. He has ridden it pretty hard for dozens and dozens of long rocky rides. Gave it a spin in the wheel jig before i dismantled it and it was still absolutley round and straight, within less than half a mm if not perfect. I was well impressed.
