    Cubs silver arrow.
    Grade 5 violin.
Amazing how much of my leisure time and home life draws on the bits I would have first learnt in these first two err, qualifications.

whereas nursing diploma/post-reg degree modules are useless outside my 37.5 hour working week, and a healthy interest in new wave cinema, absurdist theatre and André Gide are completely useless but nevertheless got me my most 'impressive' piece of paper.

on-one errr, one has a very narrow range of adjustment on the slotty inbred, but it works ok once you find some much longer screws for it or use a half link.

I got some cheapy 'savage' branded ones from ebay for a fiver posted (pair) and filed/dremmelled down them rather a lot: they pull on the axle (inside the dropout) rather than the qr and still have a fairly useable range of adjustment. Only drawback is you need a 10mm spanner out with you to take the wheel off.

I'm a 44 in my 7-year old shimanos (no idea the number but they are the old grey/black suede 'leisure' spd's, and couldn't walk comfortably in more recent 44's. I take a 44 in most normal shoes and can rattle in my 45 specialized comps.

iirc they only take direct debits these days not cash.
But then they are paid a comission for this and would probably get followed and mugged…

…if the internal diameter if the uppers is the same, i shouldn't see why not. The rest of my reba team is just like my old reba inside, just 5mm longer uppers to bump it up to 120mm travel. only thing i could see would be it not fitting in older ones at 80mm in case the damper cartridge is longer than the old mc one.

I've had 5 motion control forks (pikes x2, recon, reba and rev) before my reba team with blackbox and i think it definitely rides better. Not sure if they ride £100+ better though, i suppose it depends on your choice and price of alternatives.

But then I'm just a nasty old Socialist, and there's only about four of us left, so take no notice.

    right with you there, comrade.

The only system I worked in as opposed to being educated by was the french one: the 'competitive' element puzzles me (you sit an exam to get into say, second year of medical school, teacher training or to be the caretaker -really -and the top x% candidates that year get in) as you get candidates who have failed previous years trying to hold up the progress of newer candidates.

Otherwise its pretty efficient: other staff in the school a bit like EWO's only loads of them to deal with issues outside the classroom. Free periods in secondary schools, which are supervised and you have to do your homework in up to a certain year/age. Compulsory foreign language or two right through to upper 6th, (however the different streams have different amounts of hours and academic standards for various subjects so you can still lean towards the things you are most interested in). And the school dinners are even better than some restaurants i paid real money for in the UK. :D

my children (3 and 5) love it!

I can't imagine how much faff it must have been getting all those parts dismantled, masked off etc.

You can buy some pretty far out coloured/patterned tyres/grips/saddles, but perhaps the owner valued the performance of trusted favourite contact points over the overall 'look'.

deliberately 20 months apart here, and it was busy but not ridiculous. Now at 3 and 5 they play nicely most of the time.

    From the xcracer.com front page:

Apologies but more snow due tomorrow and now the 4×4 ambulance is on call for westcountry ambulance service making it too risky…

I'm sure it would be a bit foolish putting on a snowy freezing xc race without the ready means of getting the injured out of newnham park. :(

The local leisure centre & library always manges to get in & open

…and most of the staff there probably live quite close by. No way I would put up with minimum wage 30 miles away from home for very long! You may find that the dinner ladies live within walking distance of your kids' school, the caretaker and classroom assistants nearby too. The headteacher may live miles and miles away as those sort of jobs do not just pop up on your dorrstep. Usually the case that the more specialised the job/profession, the further away the staff might live.

Local authorities will cancel non-essential jobs to make best use of the reduced numbers of staff they have who are able to come in. In dire circumstances (84/85 winter) police etc used 4wd's to get essential staff to work down here.

Unfortunately high class sizes and the physical size of classrooms means that after a certain number of staff drop out of skool due to bad weather there is just no way of safely looking after your loved ones, let alone teaching them anything!

you need a cable stop for the cable to pull the chain out (and let it back in) the hub. I've only ever seem then on the driveside chainstay, about 12-15cm away from the dropout iirc.

yeah, its a monster of a document isn't it? You have to work out which 'chapters' are for your fork and then ignore the rest even if it looks very similar. I printed the relevant sections off for my fork(s) and left the rest in the computer so I could get all messy and not start doing the wrong bit to the wrong fork.
    For the reba dual air:
    1-Removing lower legs.
2-Dual Air spring service. In this bit it mentions the 'all travel spacers', which is the bit you need to do to alter the travel. It looks like a cylinder of plastic with a chunk cut out of it (so you can 'snap' it on, but do slide it off the shaft as it is all a bit delicate in there).
    3-(optional) Motion control service.
    4- Reinstalling the lower legs.

You can do it without removing the lower legs. There was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago which said how to but although its quicker and does not require the use of snap-ring pliers, you have to get a rather delicate seal past the big threads under the top cap. If it was mine (done it to a couple of forks) I would invest some more time and do it the way the service guide says, plus then you get to clean up the seals/foam rings, inspect the stanchions and bushings, and change the oil in the lowers.

    Happy spannering!

You can remove a spacer inside and go up to 120mm (good PDF 'dealer service guide' on sram site for this) but you want revalations for 130-140mm travel.

Was it an urban myth that folk used to get pulled in after mobile police speed traps as the top of a bicycle wheel registered twice as fast as the bike was travelling?

Well, if you will insist on changing your 'screen name' (or whatever it's called) every three months….

Everyone has some idea George, even me with my aversion to cycle computers and the awful truth about how slow/little I really ride. Come on, humour the class with your guesstimate, eh?

Me and my willy used to get into all sorts of trouble until I discovered that a side affect of anti depressants was zero sex drive……everybodies appy!!

another side effect of some of them (paroxetine especially IIRC but I work in kiddie mental health now so sex doesn't really come up that often..) is that you last a lot longer when you do. Do it, that is. You could be making that special someone at least 30% happier!

I 'fixed' my mates orange hustler+lyrics the other day. By 'fixed' I mean made skippy gearsd slightly less skippy :? and then took it in the woods and rode err 'tested' it in a most inefficient and tennagerish fashion, giggling like a child. What a lovely bike!

He is unavailable to comment, too busy pulling doughnuts round and round startled ATGNI's in an icy trail centre car park.

But I am sure it will be much faster than me. (Never one for bike computers but on a flat-windless-tarmac-commuter-bike-day with 44/11 gears I reckon no more than 24 mph! And I would be in bits if I kept that up for more than a few minutes.)

one of my favourite ever 'bike crimes' was parked outside tesco metro a few years ago: an 01/02 Spesh hardrock (the one that had stiffee-type square tubes and looks, but geometry for 100mm fork) with junior t's on it. Rad!

There was I think a banshee/mythic made a couple of years ago that came with triple clamps on it.

I think its also an issue of leverage from the top crown as well as the travel, I am sure that in years past there were frames that were warrantied for a certain axle to crown fork length but not necessarily for dual crown forks.

My dad's cousin, he was. I only met him a couple of times but he seemed a very nice bloke, (my dad says he was really really sound). Hard to imagine him being a naval officer when you saw him in cords and a sweater!

I hardly remember the amazing bald/flyaway hairdo in that photo of him just after they abandoned the Shef.
