…oh just in case, the 'sulk' in question wasn't particularly about his ever-changing names, it just seemed to be usual forum politix, percieved 'unfair moderation' and arguments etc..

One of the more, errr, vocal members recently left the forum in a sulk (and a whole thread!) asking the mods to delete his account, and then re-registered under a new name a worryingly few days later. You could always try that!

Tyre clearance (do the chainstays go out a bit before they go back in again?) and 1" lower bb i'd have thought.

A friend of a friend is a dutchman named Wim. He is a builder with a few employees, does anything from front garden walls to roofing and extensions. Calls his company 'Wim'll fix it.' :D

headtube just looks ring-reinforced. On the steel xc ones its straight on the inside and flares out on the outside to have a bit more meat where the cups press in.

Excuse my ignorance buts what's wrong with seatstays above top tube?

Oh and yes mine (soloist) has well tidy welding too. Not the lightest frame on earth but then not really why I bought it.

    another vote for 'bumhands'.

'jimjim the human bin' off the old forum was a nice one too.

I also would like to like 'iDave' so long as he isn't a gadget freak with lots of posh apple products.

the wibbly/reverse fade piano and slightly euro vocals say 'france' and specifically 'source/delabel' records to me. Have you tried googling a few lines of the lyrics?

plastic wine cork cut down to size with bolt through it to space the mudguard away from the chainstay bridge.
iirc it was one of Sam Singular's builds I saw that on: looks really neat.

You could take them some korange juice…and if they like chewy sweets, try some halalibo

You missed out Mecca Cola. Yes, it is real.

For a fizzy pop its really rather nice too. Available in all friendly French 'quartiers arabes'. No idea if you can get it here, especially not in the cultural desert of Plymouth!

'mr millie' here: if you are 16 stone i really would recommend someone slacking off and re-tensioning the wheels before you ride it. In my book, the front one was just about laced together rather than 'built' and would have lasted about a week under my weight. Sponging-machine from this parish is roughly your dimensions and once destroyed a cheap rear wheel on his box-fresh kona riding up whyte's level. Poor bugger had to walk back down it…
Also the grips spin on the bars, the back mudguard rattles (I drilled a hole and put a bolt through the sliding seatstay bridge mount), the bb is sort of cartridge but sort of cup and cone wierdness, chainrings riveted not bolted on and the saddle is a sofa.

Still, excellent value nevertheless, the rest of the kit is quite servicable, especially the frame and fork, if you pump the tyres all the way up to max pressure (60psi iirc) its fairly quick for a 32 lb-ish bike. Oh and it even comes with a little bottle of touch-up paint. :-)

usually it says 'blocked' after someone's posts if they've been barred, no?

…Only the 'other' flying scotsman's posts on the canalfighter thread would seem to be unaltered. Perhaps he's banned himself? I did enjoy the 'look at me remove me' thread for the few minutes it lasted earlier. Crikey I'm having a dull day!

if the engine or chassis is of interest to kit car builders you might get a bit for it on ebay.

I got £70 for my ooooold fiesta which had similar problems to richpenny's car -just about made it to the scrappy a mile away from me. Also had £15 of petrol in it. :(

I rmember when scrap metal was cheaper about 10 years ago, having to pay someone £20 to take my dead metro away.

apparently marzocchi were rather cagey about service guides for the 'layperson'. I remember having to trawl through MTBR last year sometime for links to unofficially hosted pdf's of dealer service guides.

    new truvativ boxguide £30
    new holzfeller stem £15
    new dmr saddle £10

i've got a sanderson soloist which has lockrings outside the bb shell and a biiig spanner to tighten them. Slipped a tiny bit for first three rides (but not to chain-jumping slackness, unlike my old derailleur hanger-mount tensioner) but behaved impeccably since then.
What's really nice is being able to drop the back wheel out easily, and you don't need to move your brake calliper when you take up stretch iun the chain. Also if you are able to notice, i suppose you can choose to adjust the ebb 'up' or 'down' when you take up slack, and thus change bb height.

    I bought a DW Flux in December & got a £200+ discount.

There's a great, glowing and encouraging review of the Turner Flux in the last edition of Shred magazine. I just noticed who the reviewer is!

With Silverfish UK taking over the distribution this year and the bikes suddenly appearing appearing in a whole lot more shops, the Flux was suddenly within my reach.

No sh!t sherlock! Hopefully one of the silverfish peeps who post on here will pop up and say hello later. :-)
