This is gonna cost me hours! Just managed to find our old house in Southampton and stood outside the Hub Cycleworks! Quite a scary bit of technology, really.

Yeah, loved it, and Police Squad. Dated now though, and I guess we’ve (mostly) grown up somewhat!

Be interesting to see the replica MB5 racing at Reno or somewhere. Nice looking aircraft.

That last picture from matt_outandabout is amazing. Seem to recall an equally amazing punch out at Farnborough when the explosion from the aircraft inflated his ‘chute…

I have the great privilige to know a PR Spitfire and Mosquito pilot who has some great stories to tell… Including how he scored top marks in gunnery accuracy and was most surprised to be posted to a PR squadron!

Also how he was welcomed by none other than Leonard Cheshire when he got there. Apparently Group Captains don’t normally speak to Pilot Officers…

But then Leonard Cheshire was no ordinary man.

He tells a story or two about Guy Gibson as well…

Well if the ‘Cold War’ rules are waived:

    Old Flying Machine Company[/url]
    The Fighter Collection

Some later jet stuff happening with these guys now, I think.

Some strange German designs (WWII not Cold War):

Just had a thought: anyone found Davis-Monthan Airbase on Google Earth? Loads of aircraft sitting in the desert…

Not sure how to post a link to a spot on Google Earth here, but if anyone can tell me I’ll be happy to give it a go…

Oh, yes: loved the F5, too! Beautiful thing. Had an Airfix model of one of those.

Anyone remember the Dinky aircraft: I have a Harrier and a Jaguar, still boxed, somewhere. <Goes to look for them>

Not to mention the highly collectable Matchbox aircraft: little silver things with red props. Anyone got a complete Mayo Composite? Look after it: it’s rare as anything!

Not sure how ‘Cold War, but how about:

    PA48 Enforcer (Turbo-prop Mustang):

    and Twin Mustang:

and you can get a radio controlled model!

Another great workhorse (my wife’s uncle flew these in WWII, and we have a friend whose uncle flew them too): Catalina:

What you been drinking RB?! Like your style though 😉

Google for Napier Railton Brooklands (not really first car material – in fact it’s unique!

Yeah, love the F16 – very pretty.

Also remember seeing the SU27 (I think) doing the ‘cobra’ at Farnborough – basically it flies slower and slower at a very high alpha (is that the correct term?) then it goes past vertical and comes back again in a ‘snake strike’ kind of style.

Just gonna see if I can find it on YouTube.

By the way, love the NSFW low-flying Spitfire clip: watched it loads of times and it always makes me smile!

    Thanks midlifecrashes.

If Criminal and Family matters are exempt from Conditional Fee Arrangements and there is no Legal Aid any more, how are you supposed to defend yourself? Has access to a legal defence come down to how much cash you happen to have around?

I suppose the answer to that would be ‘find someone who takes credit cards’ and ‘the public purse will reimburse you if and when you win’?

Steam engines are ACE (preferably narrow gauge).

Watched Tornado (although she hadn’t yet been named) stop at the station in our village, saw her again at Micheldever Station on her way back to London then went to the Watercress Line and saw Bitterne (the A4) among others. Fab day. (Actually, just what my wife wanted to do on Valentine’s Day! (Not)).

Also like the old diesels (Western, Class 47, Class 37, Class 50).

Also like pumping stations, canals, mines, windmills, aeroplanes, cars, bikes, caves, castles, stately homes, birds, flowers, butterflies – lots of things!

It’s an awful long walk into town from Southampton General… Admittedly not so far from the RSH though.

Apparently the restricted hours are for ‘infection control’ purposes. Neuro ward in the General was 8am to 8pm – and the same ward as I am referring to in Basingstoke is 3 – 5 and 6:30 – 7:30 in Southampton. All very disjointed…

I’d like to know what the visiting hours are in countries with much lower hospital-acquired infection rates are.

Hentai? Came about due to specific laws about what you could and couldn’t depict in Japan, I think.

No, I’m not a fan: there was an article about it in Scarlet Magazine. And there’s another story.

Hope all goes well for you, Ton!

Basingstoke has improved in the last 3 years as they have gone from ‘pay on entry’ to ‘pay on exit’, as I found out last week when MrsJA had to go in for a couple of days. A small but significant change).

What got me was the visiting hours: 2-3 and 6:30-7:30 – a pain for me living 8 miles away but rubbish for people living a long way away!

Do the ward sisters have control over when you can see your loved ones? I think so! Visiting hours vary from hospital to hospital for the same type of ward, as well (I have checked this, by the way, as my sister-in-law works in Southampton General)

I thought we did, Vortex, but I may well be wrong…

I also heard that they were known as ‘Blue Circle Airlines’ as they had a bag of cement in the nose to make up the weight of the (not yet installed) avionics!

Isn’t there a TSR2 at Duxford as well? Not many left… Project cancelled and TSR2 broken up with indecent haste… in favour of the General Dynamics F111 I seem to recall?

Mmmmm, Lightnings! I was at Binbrook for the ‘Farewell To The Lightning’ show: nine Lightnings took off in quick succession and flew over us fairly low.

The last one I ever saw fly flew over us at about 100ft with re-heat ON! Awesome.

If you have around £5k (plus the flight to SA) to spare you can still fly in one (or a Buccaneer or a Hunter)…

Yes winstonsmith, mr, winston and smith are indeed three columns in a database, but it would appear that you didn’t bother to read the other fifty or so column names…

If you can’t see how this is sinister, I really don’t think you can be intelligent enough to hand out advice to anybody about anything.

You appear to have learned to love Big Brother just as your namesake did.

I’ll never vote Conservative but I’ve also now completely lost faith in Labour.

Which way will you vote then (and why not Conservative?)

Just please don’t stop voting: that way Labour WILL get back in!

I wondered when CFH would be back around – welcome, sir, and well observed.

The thing I like about this thread is that there has been measured debate and no-one has descended into abuse.

A possible first for STW? Seems as though many people are happy to discuss this one. Could it translate into votes at the next election?
