Thanks muddydwarf but it’s fine. I didn’t take it that way at all.

I’ve had some shit times recently and there may be some more ahead but hey, ho – that’s what alcohol and nicotine are for.

I really am not that bothered. It can be sorted either way.

Julian, I do sympathise honestly. But believe me (as a bloke who once hung himself) life is ALWAYS preferable wherever you live in this country

Sorry you went though that but I wish I shared that sentiment.

**** a duck I thought I’d have a look at this thread after chucking out time ………and yep, its running on alcohol

    Nonsense.

Read what I said above. Then read it again. I meant it.

    @muddydwarf and @athgray Thanks.

Just can’t see how my future, if any, lies in a country I neither like nor trust.

Don’t want to lose the opportunity to leave. Would still rather die than lose that opportunity.

Yeah, maybe I am a snob. Maybe not. I just would like to live somewhere nice, having grown up in a shithole.

Yeah, sorry for that MuddyDwarf. No offence meant. No way I could have guessed at that.

But if you can’t afford a house anywhere you would like, have no pension, the government is squeezing all your other investments and the rest of life is shite sometimes would that possibly be a a reason?

I’d rather be alive in a council estate in Rochdale than dead in a fancy cemetery in Suffolk..

You clearly don’t have much of a life then. Rather you than me.

As for the reason I haven’t left, well three months to the referendum doesn’t leave much time (among other things)

Thanks muddydwarf but if you have to ask the question I don’t think I can supply the answer.

And before I get banned for a bit can I just say that if you would rather live cheaply in Sheffield or Tiger Bay than die you really, really do have low standards.

I’d rather pay to take a toxic drink in a flat in Zurich than live in a cheap, nasty place in Britain.

**** you muddydwarf. You are being a shit and you’re talking shit.

If you think that life is better in either of those places you are more of a **** than I thought.

You can live wherever you like but that doesn’t work for me.

I really would rather die than live in either of those places.

Mods ban me if you wish – but I feel really strongly about this. I really would rather die than live in some cheap shithole in Britain.

And thanks junkyard for your suggestions. I’ll figure it out. This place wouldn’t miss me much anyway…

@scotroutes true but I don’t need it to be any harder than it already is, thanks.

Sometimes really struggle with the way things are. Leaving the EU would be so shite for us..

Thanks junkyard but what I want is the right to live abroad in a country of my choice.

I really love Picardie / Pas de Calais / Normandie and if it’s the choice between one of those or somewhere cheap in Britain I’ll take the overdose, thanks.

    Thanks for trying, though.

@jambalaya thanks but I’m really worried about losing the automatic right to live and work abroad.

Sure we could probably still afford to etc but without the right so to do it would be a pain.

Actually sometimes I think my life is falling apart sometime soon anyway.

Thanks junkyard but there is nowhere I want to live in this country more than somewhere in Europe. It’s as simple as that.

It look pretty bleak for me if Britain leaves the EU.

    @teamhurtmore and @muddydwarf

You obviously didn’t really read my post.

I / we can’t afford to buy a house anywhere I want to live in Britain so it really is that bad. Life does not go on in the way you suggest.

Renting is not an option for us in old(er) age therefore we need to buy something somewhere. With our current means this will need to be somewhere other than Britain.

So if Britain votes itself out of Europe that might be the stark choice for me.

    JulianA
    Free Member

Well if Britain votes itself out of the EU I am going to think very hard about suicide.

There is no way we can afford to buy a house in which we’d like to live in Britain but we have just got to the point where we could buy a small place abroad and still have a small income from our investments here.

Leaving the EU will make our plans so much harder to achieve.

If this is the case I can’t see much of a future.

Disappointed that cfh doesn’t have a brand new motor, that he doesn’t sit in the back and that it isn’t a (minimum of) merc s class.

It’s one way of keeping the mileage down on the Maybach…

Guessed it might be an XC90 from things you have said earlier.

    Enjoy!

Saw a Signal Red W123 230TE with 19000 miles on it at M-B World earlier in the week. Would have done you fine…!

Went to Mercedes Benz World yesterday and saw this thing in the metal.

    Awesome.

The 300SL Gullwing is pretty nice too, as are the 190SL and the 280SL (which is the one driven by Jodie Kidd in the title sequence of the Classic Car Show).

Great afternoon out (free entry) and right next door to the Brooklands Museum.

+1 each for Eraserhead and Fear And Loathing.

    Cherry 2000?
Vampire Circus (hopefully the uncut version) with Lalla Ward. Mmm, Lalla Ward.

Likewise. Usually bow tie. Sometimes cerise.

    Pagoda roof?

    In my dreams!

And the pagodas are all at least 45 years old now and eyewateringly expensive!

If the willy waving comment was aimed at me, I was making the point that just because I drive something nice doesn’t mean that I’m hocked up to the eyeballs, living off mum and dad and incapable of having a relationship!

You’re ascribing a negative view to him, possibly because subconsciously it makes you feel better. Because there is an element of competitiveness in you.
i see it more as curiosity, looking at somebody who desires those things when you have no desires for them yourself.
i dont drive even though i like cars but i think anything that goes over 75mph belongs on the track and not on our congested roads to sit in stationary traffic for hours, i look on with bemusement at just about anyone with an expensive car, more so if it costs around their yearly income, they live with mum and dad and is on the never-never.
doesn’t make me better than them but i do ponder their thinking behind overspending on a depreciating asset that is i’ll suited to U.K. roads. and why they choose that outlet for their ego.

My 155 mph (and I know it will do 145 or so and have done so quite legally) convertible also happens to do 32 mpg on a run, is a great place to be even when in a traffic jam, cost about £4.5k, is paid for in full and I’m married and have been for nearly eighteen years. The car is depreciating very little. I drive it with the roof down as much as possible – the heater is very good. I also have a beautiful thirty year old Mercedes coupé – also paid for in full and an equally lovely place to be even when stationary.

You can judge me for how I spend my money if you wish – and I didn’t have to spend very much on either car – but I really don’t care. I’m having fun while you are angsting about expenditure that I can afford. No HP here…

Julian, did I spot yours out of the corner of my eye the other day?

Quite possibly CFH, we did drive past yours a couple of times the other day.

She’s great: getting a few things sorted out and it’s all looking good. Just another seven grand or so and she’ll be perfect. Currently returning about 20 mpg. Soooo nice to drive!

    Absolutely love it!

Dread to think about the parts prices though… Some bits are expensive for a standard W123 coupé.

Have to say though that our local Merc dealer is incredibly helpful and that some parts are very reasonable.

@sharkbait Thanks – I thought that might be the case. Might get a CCJ against the other party at that address but how much good is that?

Any reason why I shouldn’t go to the address and see if she still lives there? No threats, no aggression or anything – just an enquiry?

I’d be very interested in an answer to this question as well as I want to take someone to the SCC when I may not have a current address (but the scenario is entirely different).

I do have a) the person’s last known address (but they are not responding to letters) and b) their solicitor’s name and address.

I am hoping that a writ can be served via either a last known address or via a third party.

A272. Used to be a lovely road. Still has great scenery but too many cars and asshat drivers.
A3057. Now has too many speed limits to be any fun.

@chewkw Apologies – I now get your points and your last post was very pertinent.

As much as I love Greece and feel desperately sorry for their situation I will not be visiting again any time soon.

The bit about the bear had me in tears. The corruption breaks my heart. I will not support their tourist industry any more as they need a bloody good lesson in sorting things out: maybe being run by Germany would be a good thing for them this time. They took money from the EU under false pretences and should be made to pay.

Sad for the lovely people who need to make a living there, though – and we’ve met loads of those.
