I have a friend in an A4 and he laments the day he gave his beemer back

They are nice inside, but thats where it ends, understeer like hell, gone through a set of front tyres in just over 11,000 miles.

I had 17000 miles out of my A4 front tyres and that’s on a 3.0. Your mate either drives an RS4 very fast or doesn’t inflate his tyres correctly!

Going by the service I’ve had from an Audi main dealer today I’d go with an Audi for sure.

    1 Series looks awful anyway.

However, this is the year I see a waxwing… Definitely this time…

Good luck with that! Waxwing is the bird that got away as far as we are concerned! It didn’t help when my mother phoned to say that 16 Waxwing had been in the tree next to her garden…

    Yes, we’ll be taking part.

Big Garden Birdwatch usually means dreadful weather, sadly!

Would be interesting to compare lists after the weekend.

If Colbornes were that good they would have told you there was a “product enhancement” (or recall as the non-marketeers call it) in the first place, no?

Tricky for them to do this as they barely knew that I existed before this. It wasn’t a recall as it was not a safety issue – the replacements were done at services etc – and when this started I didn’t own the car and I have never had it serviced there, so in this case your cynicism is misplaced! 😀

Apparently Lancasters used to do 1mpg – a flight engineer who managed to get 1.1 mpg out of his aircraft was taken off ops and sent on a lecture tour. You can see why when you think that 10% extra range was then available – could have made the difference between getting home and not…

No ecommerce required? Do you have any idea what you want it to look like? Contact form required?

Would be happy to help out and put a few pages together if you want. Might be able to sort out some spare hosting space too if required.

Also not that far away from you, I think.

vdub1992 at hotmail dot co dot uk if you want to drop me a line.

Fine. I enjoy my job – would much rather stay home though.

New software release wot I partly rote has just happened so there’s gonna be some flames to put out, I expect! Fun fun fun…

I met PJ O’Rourke in a bookshop in Charing Cross Road once.

I thought it might be him and rather than saying ‘are you PJ O’Rourke?’ I said ‘where do you look for PJ O’Rourke in a place like this?’.

He said ‘right here’. We shook hands and had a chat.

Dined out on this for years, obviously.

I asked for a parachute jump. To her credit, the wife got me it, but I have yet to take the company up on it. We had a bit of a falling out last year… I have till march to get it sorted.

Isn’t a parachute jump all about falling out?

    1. If a property is bought BTL it reduces the supply available for sale – this guy’s friends owning 99 more properties than they need means 99 families/couples can’t buy those houses to live in as there’s fewer for sale. This leads to an artificial shortage of supply, which pushes up prices…

    2. For me to buy a house to live in I have to put down a deposit and take out a repayment mortgage, the amount being limited by my salary. BTL can be done interest-only and is paid off by the rent, not by any earnings the landlord has. This makes it massively harder for the private owner to put up as much as the landlord can. Too much money chasing too few goods = inflation.
How else does anyone think house prices are so far above the 4x salary historical norm?

    1) Nonsense. These houses were on the open market at some point or other. Anyone could have bought them.
    2) Also nonsense. A residential mortgage requires (I think) a deposit of 5% minimum. A buy to let mortgage requires a deposit of at least 20%. BTL mortgages also require some proof of earnings – in my experience. Ergo the buy to let investor has to put up more money than the residential purchaser – doesn’t that level the playing field a bit?

Stick your money somewhere else and let someone who needs a home for security and somewhere to bring up their family buy it instead. For those of us who’d like to buy a place to live, BTL is an unmitigated disaster, pushing prices totally out of reach…

How does an investor simply paying the asking price for a property push up prices? I guess this may depend on the area, but surely in most areas if you can afford a house you would buy one the same way as an investor would. Probably not in London, though…

Trogir is a lovely little town, a big like being inside a game of Cathedral (if you’ve ever played the game).

Close to Split – fabulous city – but a long way from Plitvice, which was one of our must-see places in Croatia (and which was fantastic). Krka Falls were pretty good, too.

There’s also quite a good walk up a gorge which isn’t too far away, as I recall.

The only thing we found with Croatia was that there were still quite a few uncleared minefields around – did not encourage straying ff the beaten track. May have changed since 2007 though…

I’d imagine anywhere down the Adriatic Coast is going to be warm in September. They may even have finished the Magistrala past Sibenik by now, which would be nice! (And would cut some journey times down rather!)

Cheers – having read your reply and a couple of things on the net I might well carry on ignoring the little red ‘1’ on my settings icons!

Also fancy the 128gb Air. Just not got around to justifying £629 or whatever it is when I have a perfectly good iPad 3. Although come to think of it, my mother was talking about getting a tablet… Not in a ‘here’s your Christmas present I’ve got a new one’ sort of way though. Just an ‘I’ve got a new iPad why don’t you see if you like this one before you get a brand new one’ sort of way. Just wanted to clear that up before anyone has a dig!

Nordika are my favourites. A bit more money than some but warm, comfortable and long lasting.

A few places sell them and they are worth tracking down.

Back to the op, whats up with being thick.?

Nothing – as long as one is willing to learn. I don’t understand why anyone would be proud of it though.

This comment isn’t aimed at anyone in particular: it’s an observation.

Cheers CountZero. Haven’t updated iPad 3s / iPad mini yet as I thought they might be too slow. Sounds as though I should check iOS 8 out for compatibility with our devices.

It is NOT surprising that so many people make so many mistakes.

Standards of literacy and grammar in this country are depressingly low.

I’m with the original poster on this one.

@CountZero – which OS you on? Your browser is different and you speak of dragging the page so that the address bar appears. Is Safari different in iOS 8 (assuming that’s what you’re using)?

Fantastic day! Just us (me and MrsJulianA and the cats).

No stress, got up late, had brunch (yes, that late!), went for a walk, Queen’s Speech and port, presents, port, sherry wine, dinner (with wine), now just finishing the wine – might have cheese and biscuits with some more port in a bit.

    Why get stressed?
