I got some Gilbert Crockett Pro II’s and the soles are barely worn, but the canvas tops have splits on both sides. TBH, my first pair, and I don’t feel I got that much use out of them. Have to go up half a size, as they’re not really wide enough at the ball of the foot and hence the toes feel cramped. The Crocketts were comfy enough but not enough support for the arch to be truly comfy. In all, they feel like a cheap, imported trainer.

Didn’t some STW posters take over the Lamb, on the road to West Wittering?

The menu looks ok, and it’s a pretty looking pub. I keep meaning to pop in as I’ve been at the marina most weekends this summer.

The Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay (as previously mentioned) was good when i went there the other week, – it’s a Young’s Pub so pretty much similar menu to many others, and we did have the “burger and chips option” from outside, but it was good quality, probably as good as burger and chips can get. Actually, the chips were amazing, the best I have had in years, that whole crunchy golden on the outside, that didn’t go soft, and remained fluffy soft white middle whilst being piping hot. party of us all enjoyed it and the view over the river is really lovely too.

Sue them via moneyclaims online for every 40d+ invoice? By the time Court Issue fees get added and their time in dealing with the litigation to prevent judgement, I’m sure they’ll see that it’s no longer cost effective to pay late?

Given that the payment departments are often remote from the “ordering office” it may not even effect your being employed.

And if they don’t get their act together, and you get judgement after issuing as no defence is received by the Court, then nice men will gladly collect a company debt, for a fee, payable by the company, as receptions have sofas, computers and nice furniture which they find easy to take.

Still, worth delaying til you know whether your insurance covers them. Someone walks in with a £600 battery, and then comes back a week later complaining your charging point killed it – Or if the batteries are unattended somewhere at a charge “station” and they get stolen?

I’d do the UKIP “blame Health and Safety in some ambiguous, ill informed guise” til I sorted out proper charing facilities – and then advertise the service!

I work in insurance motor injury claims.

There’s nothing, nothing as satisfying as seeing a bit of clear dashcam showing a blatantly contrived/induced/staged accident.

Well, writing to the solicitors of the multiple claimants telling them you have it is more satisfying….

Was in a band years ago. The drummer knew loads of stuff.

The one thing he couldn’t do, having just practiced alone in the family conservatory for years without playing with anyone, was keep time.

It was like playing along to a record where people would press down on the platter. I’d be turning round and urging him to speed up or slow down.

If you can keep time, you’re half way there.

Will you be playing along to a click?

Two of my cheapest guitars are presently my most played. Either available for probably less than £500, certainly s/h.

A Joe Pass Epiphone Hollow body, and a Gibson Special Les Paul faded double cut (twin p90, no maple cap).

My choice is very limited as I’m left handed.

The former is a bit funky on the appointments – Korean made with gold Grovers & pickup covers, fancy scratchplate, body and neck binding, big mop inlays, flamed maple sides. The latter a very stripped down back to basic solid body. – USA built 2 Pickups on a solid faded finish mahonany body. But both are great at what they do sinceI got them, My Strat has been gathering dust for years now – (dont like the scale length), my Rickenbacker 330 is unplucked (necks a bit deep and chunky for my little hands) and the SG is in retirement with a bit of fretwear.

I would say, though, have a look at a no frills Gordon Smith GS1 at £600. Fantastic playing, and great value for money.

Gross income of 15k pays c600 tax or 4%.

Gross income of 30k pays c3,600 tax or 12%.

Gross income of 60k pays c13,500 tax or 21%.

Gross income of 120k pays c40k tax or 33%.

So, my point FWIW is that higher earners pay a larger % already. Which we all know. This thread wasn’t about acceptable levels of income but a general willingness to pay more tax.

But you then forget that as a % of income, given VAT on goods and services hits everyone equally, and that after non progressive taxation, people on £40k are still very much “richer” and the true % of tax paid overall is very much evened out. And there are still plenty of mechanics for someone on £40k to exploit, not open to £15 earners.

    It’s not your drone.

You may not have liked the way it was being used, but it’s still not yours.

Trying to be a bigger **** than the owner, by firing yourself up with unjustified “outrage” is just Trump politics on a personal level. I’m sure you can “self justify” til the cows come home, I can tell from the tone there’s no arguing with you.Your motives are however, reprehensibly transparent.

Police are stretched already, failing to investigate burglary, car crime ect, and you’re planning on rocking up at the station shouting about the “crime” of, er someone using a drone badly, in the hope of a windfall.

Just a shame your petty childish and vindictive grubby worldview has been inherited by junior. I mean, you were  pretty quickly working out “what it’s worth”, despite the “outrage”.  You know its not yours, but you still let your kid climb the tree to take it where someone has “left” it, regardless of the circumstances.

Theft by finding is still theft. Imagine it was someones bicycle. Just because you saw them go through a red light 20 mins later, making them a MASSIVE LAWBREAKER, doesn’t mean you can steal it if you find it unlocked.

Isn’t the issue that they require specific ovens that inject steam into the hot oven at a point in the baking cycle, whereas  a UK mas baker is simply using a different machine/tin to create an approximation of the baguette shape before it goes into a standard oven that is also baking tin loaves.

As well as a bit more care and love in the proving process, from a small baker that a factory cannot give.

Civil Court Proceeedings.Old codger probably wont turn up. Judgement obtained.

Escalate to Baliffs. Soon the £200 scratch will be £1500 with additonbal court and Baliff recovery costs. Obtain if he doesn’t settle with them, obtain a charging order.

Then he can’t sell his expensive house, and will have some explaining to his family if when he needs to sell when he goes into care/dies. Won’t be able to do a thing til the debt, with interest at a punishing rate is applied.

“Sorry to be the bearer, etc but it’s unfortunately been a valid defence on more than one fatal occasion.

Most notably a young female who killed a motorcyclist when she pulled out without being able to see because “the sun was in her eyes”.

    Court found her not guilty!”

I bet you’re cheerful at parties.

Firstly, that will have been a criminal prosecution, for a criminal charge requiring a very high burden of proof, and to a completely different standard to that of the drivers claims department at an insurer.

Secondly, judges can and do make mistakes, they’re human.  But 1 dodgy uncited ruling, or one you don’t appear to understand, isn’t worth worrying the op over.

This is a civil matter, the burden of proof shifts to “on the balance of porbability”, and as on a sunny day, its entirely forseeable sun will get in your eyes, and care needs to be taken, theres little chance of a claims department resisting this.  If the injuries or losses were very serious, they will rightly look into any contributory aspects, but as the cyclist is vulnerable, potentive causality, along with the onus of the turning vehicle to turn when safe to do so, and the forseeability and requirement to consider its effect, mean this claim will almost certainly be paid.

Just be careful who CTC use as solicitors, as its not down to quality, but the size of the kickback they get, in what ever form (referral fees are banned, but the legal profession in personal injury is *so* dodgy, they have a habit of getting round these things).  Ensure that they’re not taking a %, if you have CTC insurance.

It’s regrettable but all views are “correct”.

It’s the most valuable thing you own.  The price is “estimated” by an agent, who may or may not be very good at his job, and market value is really what someone is prepared to pay you for it.  You don’t owe anyone £10k just to feel good about yourself.

However, its not really “10k”. In reality, it’s a tiny bit off the large future mortgage you have, and when inflation is concerned, might make a few months difference to the date of your final payments in 20 years time, or literally, a few quid a month difference on the mortgage payments today each month.  It’s not like you’ll probably see £10k in your bank account cleared, and ready to spend on a Santa Cruz and a VW Camper.

And unless the new buyer isn’t reliant on a mortgage, or has that £10k over and above the deposit sat there, any surveyor might, in this rapidly stagnating brexit market, with a view to his own indemnity insurance, downvalue the property anyway, and so the purchaser with the extra £10k doesn’t really have the £10k as it’s taken from the mortgage funds available.

You might also ask, if that person, knowing they’re paying over the odds, sees a vacant possession house, like yours but £10k less, will they drop you like a stone? Or as other people have said, look to lock you in and recover some on the post survey haggle?

Second dried apricots – with sulphur dioxide as the preservative ingredient.

Quite literally the shittiest afternoon of my adult career, when I bought a big 500g bag, in a drive to replace chocolate in my diet for health reasons. 12 years later, some of my work colleagues still call it “the apricot afternoon”.

My boss tried to send me home, but I had to point out, I wasn’t even going to get to the bus stop, and the 435 to Redhill is not the place to be when you’re doing a reasonable fancy dress impression of a chocolate fountain.

There was a lot of gas, a lot more smell, but ultimately, a fruity geyser erupted.

There was something about being able to install the “easy accessiblity” or something, version of W10 still from old keys. So whilst the “free upgrade” officially stopped, it’s actually still going if you tick a box somewhere to state you need the acessible version.  And lo, I think you can when installed, just turn the accessibility options off.

But you need someone cleverer than me to look into it further.

I just applied for a new passport. I handed over my application to the Post Office lunchtime on the 20th December. (Remember xmas post and the bank holidays). It was a renewal, not a new passport, and I am a UK citizen, but needed a fresh photograph as part of the renewal.

I had it delivered on 2nd Jan.

My Driving licence I renewed the day before was even quicker.

I have to say, seriously impressed.

I think she’s right. Your provisional entitlement lasts til the licence itself is no longer valid for some reason – You as a motorist probably have a permanent provisional entitlement to a 125cc yourself, but still will need to take a cbt yourself to ride a 125 (possibly not a 50cc moped). The CBT is only a 2 year thing – you must take a test to upgrade to a full licence or renew the cbt.

It’s a simulator not World of Warcraft.

It’s Massive. It’s multi player. It’s online. You create a character, Commander x. Its an MMORPG. They don’t *all* have to take place in dungeons.

FSX is a simulator. X plane is a simulator. Rise of Flight is a simulator. Cliffs over Dover is a simulator. Or the Silent Hunter series, or even Trainz/Train Simulator2016. I am familiar with simulators.

I’d argue it’s intent and scope is much more than a simulator. It has guns, quests, a money system, and a persistent, online universe which every player logs into, creates a unique character in, and who then progresses through, and has some effect on the world.

An MMORPG doesn’t have to copy WOW (or Guild Wars II, LOTRO, Warhammer online or Rift/Valiant which I never tried) in every respect. But Wow has weapons, quests, a money system, and is persistent on the one location that players are required to log into, (albeit over multiple servers) into which each player creates at least one character, who progresses through and has some effect on the world.

So, whilst I see you’re point, it does simulate to some extent, something that doesn’t actually exist, and without the level of technical complexity the real thing would have, and has to “fudge” some basic mechanics of physics to exist at all. So it’s not really that much of a simulator. Its actually a game, a complex to fly simulator style game, one that multi users log into and play at once at the same time.

So again, I’ll ask again, politely, why does the game feel so “dead”? It feels like a single player own pc install game.

Or am I just too “new” and that it opens up a bit more, socially? Does the sterility wear off? Wheres the chat? Wheres the people? Wheres the life? The “spark” to the game? The “groups/guilds” of players?

I think the planetary landings, whilst a good idea in theory, should somehow lead to “life” and a dynamic environment. The Spaceships should be lively, dynamic, mini cities, with places mmorpg players can congregate to chat, exchange knowledge, even if “trade/crafting” and those sorts of things you do find in WOW don’t exist. Make me feel there’s life outside the cockpit. There seems little immediate facility to find friends in the rpg ways.

In fairness, I did spend several years on WOW Guild, and used to spend half my nights monitoring chat channels ensuring our players were playing nicely, being respectful with each other, sorting out arguments, looking after players with communication needs, and being a “shoulder to cry on”. (We were one of the few Guilds, happy to take on players with specific difficulties, like players with Aspergers to varying levels, as I used to “look out” for them, and step in if they started to annoy other players). So in one sense, most of my log in time was actually spent not playing, but ensuring the play time of others was enhanced. I certainly don’t want to do all that again.

It just feels like a fairly dry simulator, when arguably, (with space, guns) it should be a lot more than that. Presently, it feels like a few non interactive screens operating out of a cockpit seat, then flying through space, which is always going to look pretty the first few times, and then after a couple of flights resembles just more of the same.

Thanks to this thread, I’ve just started on this. I bought it pre access in 2014, and found to my surprise, I have a bonus Viper Mk IV as well as the starting ship.

Couple of days in, without knowing what I’m doing, up to about cr400,000. But it’s as a mmorpg, it all feels very “dead”. Its just flying about from place to place. There’s no “life” to the game, like orther mmorpgs. And unlike the other mmorpgs I played, I have no guild or friends, which makes it even deader. Is the upgrade to the horizons/commanders pack worth £20?

So people don’t like it that 2 blokes are having a go in a very difficult industry that has all but died in this country. They also seem not to like the fact that they look to be succeeding by offering goods made in the North of England to a high standard with a lifetime guarantee. They are also probably pissed off with the fact that they are providing people with employment.
    Sounds like jealousy to me.

It’s not entirely dissimilar to finding out Innocent own Coke, with their cheeky “right on” marketing, having thought you were supporing something small and local/national, or that Classy and Green Pret are owned by McDonalds. Its when marketing doesn’t meet reality and the consumer finds out they’ve effectively been lied to. And that goes for any organisation, its not a go at anyone specific, – but that advice is Para 1 of any marketing book.

If the usp is made in “Trouser town”, and then they’re not, and the marketing is how honest and right on the owners of any brand are, when they appear shady, and talk about their fantastic designs, when it appeared the original was a “borrowed” design that had nothing to do with them, then the point of spending 4x the average spend of a product as a premium segment product(as you’re buying into that brand) has largely disappeared. And if you got to that point, whoever is right or wrong, whether its the owners of the company, or suppliers complaint, is totally irrelevant, the brand is damaged in social media backlash.

And when the guys who basically grabbed all that “free consultancy” appear to have been taking the piss? Well, tell you what, design me a great bike. We’ll call it “Brand’s X’ flyer” (as I’m not naming anyone or speculating about anyone here specifically) Then I’ll get it built by Orange. And I won’t pay for the design. But I’ll be really grateful for the freebee.

It’s not so dissimilar to that internet joke page about the guy who gets asked for a free logo or the missing cat posters, except thats comedy, not peoples jobs.

The worst thing is the apparent “silence”. That’s what organisations who get caught out, like Starbucks over tax and every other corporate disaster, instinctively do, and that way is usually the most damaging to any business.

Any organisation needs to be pro active in managing their Social Media PR or they’re ultimately doomed to fail.

If you’re relationship is such that if they invite you round for a curry and a few drinks one night, then present you with a bill for your share, then you’re totally right that your wife’s time was worth more than £19.

If on the other hand, you were just genuinely thrilled to help out a friend with a good result, then yes you are.

Friends is a tricky subject, and it’s not as easy or straight forward as you’d think. My mother and fathers sides of the family always had very different views. Fathers side was the expectation that something would be done for free/mates rates, but what goes round comes round.

Mothers was that you’d have to pay someone, so better make sure it goes into the pockets of family/friends rather than strangers. Both make sense, and seemed culturally normal to both branches of the respective families – as long as it isn’t abused neither were really wrong, were they?

It’s the heat and shaking you’re after – Presumably if you put the bottle of vodka into say a pan of hot water on the hob, and shook it every few minutes, til it’s evenly distributed – or even stick it in your washing up bowl, or bath, (Well sealed, obvs)will have much the same effect.

Leica 35mm Cameras also appeal to collectors. I used to work with a chap who had literally dozens of them, they used to release limited editions and often used to get those. I don’t think most of them ever took a shot in anger. But he also had WWII stuff as well.

The cameras are interesting in their own right as the story of the “Leica” runs parallel with photography itself.

If it hasn’t loosened/stretched, and when you rotate the rear wheel, there are no tight spots, then why change it? An SV650 simply by being a twin, is a little harder on chains than an equivilent il4.

It’ll let you know when the chains knackered anyway, you’ll feel when it starts to get loose through he pegs with a mild grinding sensation anyway, and you’ll see it “sag”, when parked. If it’s done 6k, you’ll be lucky to get 20k out of a chain on an SV anyway, so you’ll be changing it sooner rather than later, if you do 1k miles a month like I do.

And don’t forget, when you change the chain, not changing the sprockets is a false economy. ONly time I did this, it literally halved the length of the life of the new chain. Unless you’re a handy diy’er, get the chain and sprockets both done together, when you have a service due anyway. And do join sv650.org – thats a great forum for sv owners.

Just a quick question – do the full time employees have to also complete several hours of compulsory training in core hours?

You can’t easily have one rule for full time, and one for part time, without it appearing discriminatory, yet I’m guessing the trainer only works to company hours. It doesn’t really matter if it’s training, or selling widgits or whatever the actual job role is, its still working, ie time not at home, it’s compulsory attendance, which gives it the character of work, and it’s for the benefit of the company, not the employee, presumably at the company premises. It seems to me its just being asked to do something different to the usual.

You could try to meet them half way with time off in lieu, or requesting overtime.

It could be the training has to happen on a Thursday, as it’s say a paid or pre booked external course and your missus only works Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so some flexibility needs to be shown, but being told to turn up on the Thursday with no pay or expenses is not on. Even if she were happy with not being paid, who’s going to pay for childminders or what ever other things are usually done by her in the time they want her training?

I still don’t understand how you can “push the button” on a bike without trying/riding a few first?

Right from the beginning of serious “cycling” I learned from test riding at a good dealer a Specialised Hardrock, Rockhopper, Rockhopper aluminium, and then an Marin of some description, being a bit “meh” on them all, then buying a well underspecc’ed and more expensive Orange Clockwork. Seriously, the bike I bought had just Alivio, and was 25% more than the others, but it absolutely sang to me as a bike, rather than just a “conveyance”.

The Giant might be a splendid bike, but only for those who it fits well. Your ideal bike might actually not be that bike, it might be mroe, or less, and better or lower spec. Its about the best fit for you, not VFM.

Especially important on Road bikes. If you got £750 to spend on a second push bike, you probably have £850 to spend at a LBS, having tried a few bikes and thus working out why they are more expensive than the interweb. Its a bike, not a bloody hoover.
