    Cheers for the tips people. I used to have a 26″ composite XTC which I really liked.

    Neither fitness or skill are something I’m concerned about, but thanks, it’s always good to have a reason to train harder.

    RPE is Rating of Percieved Exertion.

    The benefits will depend greatly on your goals?

    I’d hope to place similarly to the tri’s I do. So top 5%.

    Budget depends on how much a Ti456 is worth. With some savings I could potentially spend £1.5k.

    Does anyone have experience of Lapierre’s offerings?

    To be clear, creatine is a supplement that has a benefit to taking it. Not a weight loss benefit!

    Given your current weight and the weight you hope to lose I stay well clear of the pills.

    If you’re trying to get really lean there is no substitute for hard graft I’m afraid.

    Cougar – my understanding is that the only legal sports supplements that have be proved to have any benefits are caffeine and creatine. Everything else is a con.

    Hi, personally I wouldn’t bother beyond drinking green tea (if you like it).

    It sounds like you’re already losing fat and a supplement will not specifically target your abdominal fat.
    If your weight loss has plateaued then you need to consider changing your routine. Have you considered exercising in a carb’ depleted state, i.e. first thing in the morning before breakfast? Some studies have proven this to be an effective way of increasing the amount of fat you may burn.

    vickypea – people also respond differently to different training stimulus.

    I say that Lance is the valid champion of that era and here’s hoping the confession allows him to compete again!

    surfer – I’d love to see the video footage of the most pronounced heel strikers in that study to understand exactly what’s going on!

    stever – it’s easy to barefoot run from the comfort of my office chair.
    My guess is that the majority of people who bang on about barefoot are probably not really runners.

    Surfer – personally I don’t think the braking forces of the foot’s impact are going to be that different, heel v’s forefoot, if the foot is landing way out in front of the body.

    That study seems to be one of the most thorough (that I’ve read) on the topic and one of the few that offers more than opinion and individual experience.

    If you enjoy what you’re doing, you’ll get better at it. If you need science and theory to help you enjoy running, great, you’ll get better at it.

    Molgrips – you’re possibly right.

    My conclusion is that the studies outcome is inconclusive as to what strike pattern is best, or rather there is no ‘best’. I’m going to trust that the scientists have studied the video footage and selected 2 photos of the footstrike that is most representative of each runner.

    The key thing that is being reported within the running and triathlon community is that it’s where the foot lands in relation to the runners hips rather than which part of the foot strikes the ground.
